yo just wanted to say if you ever feel like playing a bleach game once you finish the anime, Bleach: Rebirth of Souls is pretty good. released in 2025, base game and dlc covers the whole series

I thought that flashback with Kaien was filler but it also happens in the manga. This arc has so much recap it’s hard to tell

Ender

On my first watch I also felt the way you feel right now but on the second watch with you together... I still feel that - I also think that this wasn´t very well done.

Thankfully we’re about to leave this part of the arc

The thing is with Rukia is that she was so outclassed that without a sneak attack with a move Kaien never saw she'd never win. Rukia is weaker than a lieutenant and he is about as strong as a captain. I have to say though after reading the manga from start to finish, this arc does run really slowly especially with all the stupid gags, the pacing can be atrocious at times.

I like when you have moments of silence to dial into the episode personally I know youtube discourages like having silence in videos but it feels a lot more like we're watching it with you on Patreon when you're just, watching it. In my opinion in Soul Society Arc Rukia did come to terms with her guilt of "killing" Kaien and drinking with the Shiba family and all that but I don't think she was necessarily over Kaien just being gone. My reasoning is Byakuya mentioned she stayed by Ichigo cause he looked like Kaien and when Gin Ichimaru was able to play with her emotions on the execution bridge it shows how much she was still scared to lose Ichigo (who looks like Kaien). I think this fight was more like, "it's okay that Kaien is dead cause his heart is with me!" which is a new kind of character progression if you look at it that way. But I also agree it seems like they're doing the same thing again cause half the flashback is a replay and she literally mentions still feeling guilt and not being able to swing her sword (although I think she wouldn't say that if she wasn't tired after having just thought Kaien was alive again, and admittedly she should have been smarter than that too) but she stuffs those feelings away pretty quickly and gets with it so I think it's okay. Although if Aaroniero actually used his, "33,449" other consumed powers and just finished Rukia off instead of waving her around like a meatball he would have still won he kind of fumbled hard. Also Tite Kubo could have made it more interesting by having him disguise as Kaien's wife (who the same hollow also consumed) to give it more complexity, they could have had him change disguises or maybe appear as multiple of Rukia's past soul reaper friends at the same time. The arena their fighting in is also boring as hell it's literally just a dark room although I guess it has to be that way if Aaroniero is hurt by sunlight. I don't know where they're going for with the sunlight thing like he sort of looks like 2 fetuses in a jar so maybe it's like he suffers cause he isn't like fully developed or something? I don't know he's a weird freaking hollow.

Rukias fight is a bit weird. I promise the other espada fights go hard. Also you are definitely not alone in thinking pesche and chaka are annoying, I like nel but those 2 were just insufferable

Ender

Well formulated, the fight didn´t seem very well thougth out for the reasons you mentioned the dark room, the sunlight that wasn´t really explained nor was it used in the fight as a gimmick, the repetitiveness of the flashbacks, Rukia being over Kaiens death but not really but then again she was, the tease of his 30000 Hollow abilities but just him getting fat just to get clapped imediately after that. This scene is one of the few scenes that feel like bad pacing in Bleach. Nothing was really satisfying and I think it also didn´t do Rukias character or her development any good if you ask me, since I really like her as a powerfull main combatant female character. Like, she usually is head strong but underneath you can see sometimes subtle and sometimes obviously her softer side. It is very different to how the usual girls in anime and shonen are written - and she is not the lame feminist version of boss bitch, since she has flaws, if you know what I mean by that.

That's fair although Rukia did blast a hole in the wall to expose his disguise in the previous episode the fight is featured in. Although I don't blame you for forgetting that cause he just puts the disguise right back on and it's like it never happened in this episode. And it would have made more sense for her to complain about swinging her sword against Kaien if she hadn't already seen Aaroniero's true form after explosing him to sunlight. It's almost like things happen in the wrong order. As for Rukia's personality I do think she's tougher on the outside than she is the inside she is known for her strong resolve but it typically only shines when she's near Ichigo (probably cause she got it from Kaien). I don't want to water her down or not give her credit for that strength but Tite Kubo is also not known for being a paragon of strong independent women characters although Bleach does have more women characters worth looking up to than most shounen for its time. And he especially does a better job in that front compared to Naruto/Naruto Shippuden (I can't stand Sakura and Ino's writing). Rukia is still one of my favorite characters though and I remember loving this fight when it came out but I was a teenager back then and admittedly it doesn't really hold up like I remembered it. It only goes up from here though.

Yeah, this part of the arc is a bit rough on the pacing but it's about to turn up again don't worry. Your takes on the Rukia fight were very fair. I think the anime pacing made it worse cause they showed you all those repeat scenes. It feel like Kubo wanted the fight to be more of Rukia overcoming her trauma than a traditional battle. I do like that aspect of it, but I actually agree that with more fighting it would have been better. Plus, the ressureccion form was really dumb and did not seem to aid Aaroniero at all. I think one of the challenges in writing this fight was that Kubo wanted Rukia to win this deeply personal battle without any outside assistance, but Rukia is not an espada level combatant at all. I think Kubo's solution to this of Rukia using a technique that she created after Kaien's death to catch him off guard was very nice. I actually love the ending to the fight, but wish we got some more actual battle after the resurreccion even if it was one sided. I also think her trauma could have been a better arc like you said cause it seemed like she did overcome it but then relapsed, but this was minor for me cause I understand how seeing Kaien turn into that hideous form would be like psychological warfare to Rukia. She wanted to save Kaien from the hollow, but then she sees what he really became... it digs her trauma up again. Keep in mind that with Rukia's trauma it is not really meant to always be logical. Rukia blames herself not because it's logical but because blaming oneself is an extremely common coping mechanism for grief over the death of a loved one- especially considering she did kill him. I think it's the most realistic reaction considering what she went through. And yeah everyone hates Pesche and Dondochaka lmao, don't worry about that. I don't think the issue is that they are unserious, I think the issue is they are more annoying than they are funny and it's during a tense arc so it's a huge mismatch.
