In addition to the release of our new album EXUL, 2023 also marks the 20th anniversary of our band! With this in mind we are looking at what special things we may be able to do to help celebrate.

One thing we are looking at is re-pressing our first ever release, The Aurora Veil demo from 2007, on vinyl.

There were only ever 200 printed of this back in 2013. (100 black/100 clear frost) and so to say most people have never had the opportunity to get a copy is quite the understatement.

If there is enough interest here on Patreon we could look at doing a Patreon exclusive colour like we did for 'EXUL' and then a 2nd colour available to the wider public.

Please let us know your thoughts! As whether we go ahead with this or not really depends on how much interest there is.

Soo...would you buy one?

- Tim

(P.S. The long awaited 'Portal of I' vinyl re-press is finally on its way later this year also! The pandemic being extended so long meant we didn't have enough money to print them in the end, but once Exul is out that should change finally)

Fastest purchase in the west.

TheStalk

I'm not hip enough to collect vinyls even though they're back in vogue, but I'd for sure order a CD copy of this (and the EPs) if those became available.

Brenton Morgan

Would 100% buy, also if you put out any further blu ray's with concert material across the years, i would snap this up

A Bear

Amusingly I just bought this on clear vinyl, signed, for around AU$400 including shipping - ofcourse I would buy one new!

Dakara

100%!!!!

Chrysoar

Yes. Also on CD please.

Yasith

I would definitely get it, if you can also include both EP Tracks with it! 🥺🙌 Definitely want to get that Portal Of I repress vinyl though 😄

Gianfranco Giudici

I bought the clear vinyl 2 years ago, cost me u$s 200. A lot of money but I love Aurora Veil. mmm...exclusive colour, maybe I would buy it

Anarmir

I’d very much appreciate a CD version too, if possible…

William Hagen

Yes! Also release on streaming services as well!

Jainash Prakash

Maybe, already have one and the original CD

Tom Gillis

I don't buy much on vinyl. But when it comes to you guys I try to get EVERYTHING you have on vinyl. This is very much needed in my collection.

Patrick Celsus

Definitely would buy one. Might be dumb of me, but I'd happily also shell out for a cassette if that's potentially in the cards? Odd in this day and age I know, but I have a working tape player so why not haha

Jon Whitehead

Yes please - would stop me scouring the internets for a blood records version

Sven Bröker

I got a copy last year and am happy with it! It would feels rather bad to see it re-released.

Elliot Cole

id say yes, but i have two copies already and paid a pretty penny for them. im excited for them to be cheaper for others though.

Elliot Cole

i am a happy owner of a copy of hiraeth and sarabande on official CD, and would much rather see those be re released so everyone can enjoy your full discography. nevertheless, that is your music and youll do what you will. :)

Eric Schepis

I have one of the original black copies. I would buy a new, colored variant as well.

Rogan Woolley

I would buy it immediately I’m a big time fan and forever will be

David Contreras

I will surely buy it, because I did not have the opportunity to do it in its day and it is a piece that should be in my collection. That being said, in my opinion it would be much better to re-record the songs with the current lineup and production, rather than just making more copies of the original. That way, the original purchasers still get an "exclusive," and the rest of us can now enjoy it with better sound.

Tristan

I might buy one...but like Elliot I would much rather have the Hiraeth and Sarabande to Nihil EP's get the vinyl treatment. Those are the only 2 releases that I don't have physical copies for. Maybe do another crowdfunding campaign to get them financed like you did with the CD versions.

Ne Obliviscaris

Hey David, these songs actually already are created in 2 versions as they were all re-recorded for 'Portal of I' which then had Benji on guitar instead of Corey King. Plus Forget Not is also featured on the forthcoming Blu Ray so that is then another pro shot/mix version of that song. Recordings, editing, mixing, mastering songs at the highest level is very expensive and time consuming so I think that time would be better spent on new music. Having said that, there was an idea floating around of updating Forget Not to add string quartet parts to it... if we did something like that it could be worth recording for sure - Tim

Ne Obliviscaris

The idea of re-recording songs from Hiraeth/Sarabande maybe is more possible than the TAV demo tracks though, seeing the band has changed a lot and as a 20th anniversary thing could be interesting. I'll have a think - Tim

Marcin Kot

Sure i would buy one.

Val

I would absolutely buy one! I could listen to it on Youtube some time ago, but I would love to hear it in better quality. I really enjoy the rawness of this demo ; and hearing how much all of you improved is impressive. 20 years is quite the journey...

Rémy Alarçon

Hi there, thanks for asking us beforehand. If I may add a small contribution to the debate : being a loyal fan of *any* band isn’t cheap. For me, what is killing me are the shipping fees. They are impossible to avoid, often expensive, and they’re not part of the "real value" of what I buy. I already (and happily) paid for Exul, I would also be thrilled to have The Aurora Veil and Portal Of I, but that would be 3 shipping fees for those 3 vinyls, right? I don’t think I can afford that. Maybe if the timing is right and I can preorder TAV + POI at the same time and have them shipped together, but otherwise, drastic choices will have to be done for me.

Dominika

Would love it on a CD too

Chris Bossardet

I would absolutely buy one. Have wanted a complete vinyl collection of your entire discography for a while now.

Liam Ainsworth

I completely agree. I have an original cd, fully signed. It’s special. I also have both the limited EPs, signed. I see a lot of people asking for them to be re-released. I spent good money on those on the premise that they were limited and would never be released again. They were then released digitally and I’d be pretty upset if they are released in physical form again.

Liam Ainsworth

Completely disagree. Those were meant to be limited edition and it was promised they would never be released again. For the people like me, and obviously you that paid for them originally, they are meant to be a prized possession. The whole point of limited edition is that they remain that way. They were also a reward to the people who paid the money. I would be pretty disappointed if these were re-released.

Manuel Tavares

To complete the full Ne O discography in both vinyl and cd, i would. Will it be released through Season of Mist? I would prefer an european source to buy due to shipping costs. On my wishlist there's Portal of I's vinyl edition that i know is planned to the end of the year :) .

Liam Ainsworth

No to Hiraeth and Sarabande being re-released. They were limited releases, released as a crowd funding campaign, and should remain that way. I feel that re-releasing them devalues the original copies and the effort long term fans put in to get them. I understand new fans have come along and want all of NeO’s music, but the original physical copies are owned by us fans that have been with Neo for a minimum 10+ years. They were released digitally for a limited time to Patreon members, but I think limited edition items that are re-released detracts from their sentimental value to long term owners, as well as the contributions they made at that time.

Elliot Cole

well, as an owner of the set... im a huge proponent of making them public. i paid out the butt for them. id like for others to have a chance at them... 💙

Kevin Sheehan

Hey Liam! I’ve been on both sides of that conversation, whether something should be re-released or not. I understand you don’t want it to devalue your effort and time it took to find the items. I frankly don’t have $400 to drop on two cds though. Just an idea, what if the band released it as part of another crowdfunding campaign (so that the patreons contributions will add sentiment instead of detract), and they changed the artwork that way the original is still the original and valuable, yet it allows all of us newer fans a way to access the music and help support the band?

Kevin Sheehan

It’s just an idea. The point is- all of the fans will never be able to buy one of those cds, and the music isn’t available to stream on Spotify. So unless the band rereleased it, I’m not sure I would ever get to hear it. I respect your position, I really do. But there were 300 copies of each cd. Is holding the value to the original so important that newer fans (from 2016-on) never be given the opportunity?

Liam Ainsworth

I’m all for fans being able to appreciate NeO and hear music that has been released, but those EPs were released purely for the crowd funding to help the band travel to places people wanted them to go, and limited to 300 copies only. They weren’t released as a short run of new songs or something of the like. It needs to be respected that when people forked out their hard earned money to purchase something that was promised to never be released in physical form again, then it should remain so. I’d have no issue with another limited digital release to Patreon members, but my own opinion is that special, limited edition items become pointless and meaningless if they don’t remain that way. Releasing them again with new artwork means that people who already own them wouldn’t likely buy them as we already have the tracks and would only buy it for new artwork, which negates the point of a limited edition cd. I’d rather just but art from Xen. Again, these are just my thoughts as someone who is lucky enough to own two original copies, and I also feel that yes, people who have supported the band since their origins or at the very least, the release of portal of I, and were around to have the opportunity to get these items should also be respected and not have the promise broken. When I bought them, I didn’t have a lot of money, but I made sacrifices to have them. All that said, I’m just a passionate fan of the band and I will respect whatever decisions they make, but just thought I’d share my thoughts on it. There’s multiple bands I’d love to have limited merch from and will never have the opportunity unless I pay exorbitant prices, so I get it, but that’s life.

Kevin Sheehan

I understand better how you feel on it. I hope you don’t feel as if I was being argumentative in my comment, I like discussing things so I keep an open mind and learn/understand. Congrats on having those cds man, I’m jealous lol. Have a great day my dude!

Avintha Fonseka

I’m confident the band will release it in digital form for Patreon members again down the line so you’ll at least get to listen to the songs.

Liam Ainsworth

Ha, nothing argumentative at all. Just two fans of a band sharing a discussion 🙂 I hope you get to hear the tracks at some point. I do think everyone should have the chance to at least hear them. To be fair, they’re some of my favourite NeO tracks.

Jorge Beeche

If possible, I would also bring to the table reprinting Sarabande to Nihil and Hiraeth

Dani Ravn

Fully aware this might never happen, but 🤞😂 My wish is that you would go through the songs from this record, with the experience and knowledge that you all have now, and "simply" redo a bit to your liking and record them again. Would loove to hear an updated version 😍

Ne Obliviscaris

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for all the feedback!! Wonderful to see. FIRST of all, a few people are bringing up the CF EP's but they will never be re-released as CD's as we explicitly said we wouldn't. There has been debate over the years over whether we should do the CD EP's as vinyl, but we have always decided against it in the past in favour of instead offering a digital download so that people can hear it. We felt this was a good balance. We have had many people over the years ask about the CF EP's and are planning another patreon only digital release soon, but no plans for anything physical of these. - Tim

Ne Obliviscaris

SECONDLY--- Some are asking for TAV on CD but I can't see us re-printing TAV on CD ever again. There are only 1000 in existence (as a cardboard slip version. 2 pressings of 500 each.) and they are precious rare things and I would think it best to just keep it that way. There is also not the high demand for CD's like there once was anyway. - Tim

Ne Obliviscaris

RE TAV ON VINYL-- Just like we are of course going to continue to print more variants of EXUL, but we will never re-print the dracula red vinyl variant I think the same could apply to TAV on vinyl. The 2013 Blood Music pressings of TAV will always be the most rare sought after version even if we printed new variants/colours of TAV on vinyl. The same with POI vinyl- when we re-press we'll be doing different colours so the people that got those early prints are the only one's who have those specific limited versions. But new people get the chance to also own that album on vinyl as well. I think it's important to honour both the old and new fans and I think this approach balances that as best as we can. :-) - Tim

Liam Ainsworth

Well said, Tim, to all the above 3 messages.

A Bear

I can dig it

Tina

I already have the songs digitally via Patreon. The artwork is pretty, but I'm not a Vinyl collector, so no, sorry, wouldn't buy it. A poster, maybe.🤷‍♀️

Tina

Wise words. Owning the songs digitally should he enough for (late) Patrons. I personally am very content, and find this a good compromise between the Crowd Funding promise and a reward for subscribers here.🤷‍♀️

Ne Obliviscaris

I do like the idea of Forget Not with string quartet added.... What do you think? - Tim

Ne Obliviscaris

Thanks for the feedback! That's unlikely in physical form (see my 3 comments below in this thread) - Tim

Ne Obliviscaris

No we would do it ourselves, with copies available from our EU, USA & AU stores.

Ne Obliviscaris

CD is unlikely to be honest, see my comment below in this thread. Thanks for your feedback though as we'll keep it in mind! - Tim

Dani Ravn

Honestly, that would be amazing, Tim. Thinking of how many people have been touched by Forget Not, how many times people have cried to it, it would be the ultimate tribute ❤️

Sven Bröker

Is it still the plan to have an „updated“ album artwork for the PoI rerelease? If yea, would this also be an option for TAV, so it doesn’t feel like a reprint?

Yasith

I really respect these decisions! 💯 And love how NeO respects the earliest fans who got these vinyls for supporting NeO early! Hence those vinyls should remain limited editions. And I am glad to know Exul Dracula Vinyl will remain limited too 😃

Kevin Sheehan

Add Raphael Weinworth Browne on cello and it’s a dream come true ❤️ edit: realistically probably not, but I can dream lol

Dani Ravn

Patreon is acting weird for me at the moment. Either my posted comments disappear or my replys end up somewhere random in the thread. I hope you can see my reply, Tim 🤞😆

Frederik Franko

Any chance Hiraeth is also on the way ? :)

Tina

See above. Most likely as a Patreon download, but not on CD or Vinyl, because it was exclusive for the 2014/2015 crowd funders.

Austin Stonewall Hudson

I have recently become interested in vinyl thanks to the vinyl release of Exul. I feel like this would be a must if I am going to start a collection.

Ryan Reik

If you print it, I will buy it. Veil, portal, you name it, I'm there

Tam Haywood

This would be amazing! I would definitely buy it again. We already have this album on vinyl and my partner got you guys to sign it at one of your shows in Adelaide. He had fallen off a skateboard prior to the show and broke his wrist, he still went to your show and had an absolute blast. Met you guys and you all signed it. He went to emergency afterwards to have his wrist fixed. 😂
