What even are these EP's? 

Recorded back in 2014 as a special release for our World Tour crowd funding campaign, they feature the first songs we ever wrote way back in 2003-2005.

HIRAETH EP,  features the first songs we ever wrote (from back in 2003/2004). Beyond the Hourglass was the first song written after Tim joined the band in September, 2003. Xen & Tim are the only remaining members from the line-up that created this song. Within the Chamber of Stars was written by Tim in early 2004 (though the original song started at 3:26 & the intro section was added later in 2004 on by Corey King after he joined the band) This song written in a period when Tim briefly took over guitar duties for NeO whilst we hunted for a new guitarist. This song was the first time we explored writing in this more progressive/extreme style and was quite a change in style compared to the early black/thrash songs jammed in 2003 whilst the original line-up was still being put together. Then Felo De Se was the first song Matt wrote for NeO after he joined in 2004. This was always a really fun one to play!

And the SARABANDE TO NIHIL EP, which features songs written between 2004-2005 that were essentially, the one's the "missed out" on being included in 'Portal of I'. Of these tracks, 'When The Black Hands Dance' was an early favourite when we started playing live shows in 2006. 'All the Scarlet Tears' goes down as our shortest ever metal track and is also the first song we did with Tim singing lead vocal parts. 'Upon the Tongue of Eloquence' was actually originally on the POI track list, but it got taken off when we wrote 'Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise' in 2009 not long before entering the studio!

These EP's are definitely a lot rawer and less developed stylistically compared to our albums, but they form an interesting exploration into the starting place for NeO as a band. If you listen starting with Hiraeth, then Sarabande, POI, Citadel etc.. you can hear the way we continued to explore new sounds, improve as musicians, performers, composers etc.
