Ascension Island which is located in the south central Atlantic Ocean is volcanic in origin. It has produced 3 eruptions in the last 2,000 years, and has a surprising array of features. These range from cinder cones to cryptodomes, lava domes, and collapse scars. Any questions? :D

First time hearing the term cryptodome so I have a question. What is it? :D

Thanks for asking. I have a few questions about the island, mainly when did Ascension Island started forming, and in which part of the island did the last 3 eruptions occurred?

The overall volcano began forming 6 million years ago. The 3 most recent eruptions all occurred in the north central part of the island, producing Hawaiian type lava flows

A cryptodome is a body of magma that rises from depth and intrudes into the edifice of a volcano, but does not erupt on the surface. Cryptodome formation can result in a bulge or welt on the surface of a volcano.
