Thank you Mark for a very informative seminar. Hope you make it safely over to the UK. If so will Patrons have an opportunity to meet you?

Mark Galer

I am applying to leave Australia on compassionate leave - my father is not well. As such I have not made any plans other than to get over to the UK. I will post if any other plans are made.

Thanks for the seminar Mark, safe travels.

Greg Thomas

thanks Mark another great seminar

Great work once again Mark! A tilt screen for portrait orientation landscape photography would be nice on the next r series. Holding off on the 12-24gm at this stage to see what cameras are coming out first. That Ben Q monitor looks impressive! Safe travels! 😀👍

Mark Galer

The 180 tilt of the A6400 and 6600 makes it possible but Panasonic’s solution is better. Loving my SW321C 😀

Jack Frieden

Thank you for another excellent seminar Mr Galer. You gave us very valuable insight into the types of sensors for different photographic applications in Sony’s mirrorless cameras. Very helpful. Loving the A7RM3 for landscape and Astro. Hope your trip to the UK goes well.

One really useful feature is lossless compression in real-time in the camera... so many ways to do it. This in turn speeds uploading files to Lightroom by say 1.5 to 2 x.

Nicholas Bedworth

Really useful seminar, always beneficial to understand the big picture 📷 of how things fit together.

Mark Galer

I am not sure why Sony have not considered lossless compression. Adobe’s DNG conversion is lossless and will halve the file size of an A7R file.

Hi Mark, hope you are enjoying your time in the UK. I have a question about Lightroom sharing. I use Lightroom classic most of the time for processing my images. If I want images in Lightroom mobile then I create a collection in classic and it appears after a time in mobile. Is this the best way to do it and are the images in mobile full size images?

Mark Galer

With sharing from Classic, only low resolution files (2560px on the longest dimension prior to any cropping) are uploaded as Smart Previews to the Cloud. My preferred workflow is the export DNG files from Classic to a Desktop folder and then Add these to Lightroom CC (Desktop version). Lightroom CC uploads the full resolution files to the Cloud. I have increased my CC Storage to 1TB to accomodate my full resolution Raw file storage in the Cloud.

Hi Mark, what do you make of the BenQ SW321C's Paper Colour Sync Technology? Can this tecnology be used instead of screen calibration? After all if the monitor can simulate what your images will look like after you've printed them, there wouldn't be a need to calibrate your monitor, what's your thoughts? https://www.benq.com/en-ap/monitor/software/paper-color-sync.html

Mark Galer

There are two terms you need to be comfortable with when working with screens - calibration and profiling. The BenQ AQColor screens are calibrated straight out of the box. Calibration is a process that sets a precise Brightness of the Monitor. Profiling is where colours are measured for accuracy in terms of hue and saturation. This can only be done with a device made by Xrite or DataColor. This profiling is required because each device is unique and its unique characteristics have to be measures so that colour management software can understand the characteristics of the monitor and display colours accurately by adjusting them 'on the fly'. Over time the characteristics of a device will change so the profiling process must be repeated. Matching a screen image with a print on paper is a different issue because of the gamut, brightness and contrast difference between monitors and pigments on paper, which are viewed from reflected light which may change depending on the ambient colour temperature of the light source.
