A Sony A7C arrived this morning courtesy of Sony Australia and I have been excited to create a compact camera kit that is both small in size and light in weight, but will offer me lots of creative possibilities when I take to the street after my quarantine ends. The 3-lens kit includes the tiny compact 28-60mm kit lens + the FE 20mm f/1.8 G and FE 85mm f/1.8 primes.
As you can see this combo fits really comfortably into my small ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover 30i messenger bag that I have used previously to carry my A6600 + E 10-18 f/4, E 16-55 f/2.8 G and E 70-350 G OSS lenses. This bag is just wide enough to take an iPad Pro.
have supplied me with their magnetic quick swap filter system + ND8 & ND64 filters. I have placed magnetic rings on both the 20 and 85 lenses so I can quickly swap out filters when needed. The 20mm and 85mm primes share a 67mm filter thread and Freewell
A Peak Design wrist strap, A spare battery and memory card, a tiny Manfottto Pixi tripod (not shown), Sony's bluetooth remote, a USB-C cable + SensorKlear II Pen and the kit is complete. I also intend to add Sony's wireless lapel microphone (ECM-W1M) which weights next to nothing so that I can create some of my YouTube videos on location.
I estimate the weight to be approximately 4KG (lighter if I don't need to have the iPad with me).
I am pretty sure that I already like this camera - the EVF is a smaller view than the A6600 viewfinder but perfectly OK (I don't tend to have the camera to my eye for more than a second or two when I am doing street photography and mostly shoot looking at the monitor with the camera at chest height for this genre). The grip is smaller than the A6600 but again perfectly OK with the smaller f/1.8 primes and the small kit lens I will be using on this camera. I am pleased that I can reassign the movie button for Focus Area when shooting stills and the down button for ISO Auto Min SS. This gives me the quick access I am usually looking for when shooting with my A9 II and A7R IV cameras. I can set the Function of Touch operation to Touch Tracking and use the Touch Pad when using the Finder instead of using the multiselector (joystick) found on the other full frame cameras (I was already leaning to using this workflow on my A9 II and A7R IV cameras). Different options can be assigned to the Fn menu for Stills and Movies - so I think I have all the control I need, and I am used to, and will probably not mourn the loss of the three C buttons on the larger full frame cameras.
