It appears the global semiconductor or 'chip' shortage is starting to bite as an increasing number of Sony Alpha products are being listed as out of stock at B&H Photo. Expect this to be the case for many other leading camera dealers in the near future. This will impact all electrical products and not just Sony Alpha Cameras and lenses (lenses use semiconductors as well as cameras).

The A6100, A6400 and A6600 are all listed as 'more on the way'. As Sony have halted production of many of its cameras this could take a long while before we see more stock becoming available. The silver A7C is also listed as unavailable and the black version of the A7C can now only be purchased if bundled with the 28-60 kit lens at B&H photo. As Sony have halted production of the A7C this may be the time to purchase if you were considering this product.

These shortages of stock may also impact the Sony Alpha Lens lineup, e.g., 'more on the way' is also the being listed for the FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM II. I would imagine Sony will try to prioritise production of the A7IV and FE 70-200 GM II as these are both new products that Sony will want to get into the hands of their consumers.

If you are delaying a purchase of a camera or lens for some reason you may want to give this some thought as supply shortages could start to impact on a greater number of Sony products as the year progresses. More information about these shortages can be had by reading the info in the following two links.
