The Full-Frame 50mm F2.8 G is a small, compact, light-weight and premium-quality prime-lens. It is designed for Alpha photographers who prefer small light-weight lenses over the wider aperture primes that Sony also offer, e.g. the FE 50mm F1.2 GM and FE 55mm F1.8 ZA. The FE 50mm F2.5 G doesn't have the bright f/1.8 aperture of the ZA but it is approximately 40% lighter and shorter than the small FE 55mm F/1.8 ZA and also 40% cheaper. It also has a focus hold button and aperture ring and faster AF than the more expensive ZA. It is less than 1/4 of the size and weight of the FE 50mm F/1.2 GM.

The lens was announced at the same time as the FE 40mm F2.5 G and FE 24mm F2.8 G lenses and join the FE 35mm F2.8 ZA in the 'tiny-lens' lineup. These full-frame lenses are smaller than some of the APS-C primes, e.g., the E 50mm F1.8 and E 15mm F1.4 G lenses. I would therefore recommend these lenses to APS-C camera owners as well as owners of the Full-Frame cameras.

How Sharp are these compact Lenses? Well that's the advantage of downloading the files and taking a look in Lightroom using a large 4K screen and/or zooming in.
