My favourite episode so far. Next is the episode where Henry gets out. These two episodes are a phenomenal character arc for a 1983 kids show.

I don’t think the punishment fit the crime but I also believe Henry deserved some kind of consequence for what later became a James problem,

The part that always gets me is when ringo says “ he was very sad because he fought no one would ever see his lovely green paint and red stripes again” That line kinda makes me laugh because he’s messed up so bad and all he still cares about his paint And yeah, I do think he deserved his punishment because he got out in the next episode I’ll never forget my Nonna’s she just said “served him right”😆

I understand not going out into the rain when you're painted so nicely green. I don't go out into the rain either because it will screw up my make-up.

Funnily enough I think they ended up changing the last line in the US Dub to “How long do you think that Henry will stay in the tunnel before he overcomes his fear of the rain and decides to journey out again?” Apparently even in 1989 they thought it was too sad and cruel.

Dang is that so? I'm going to check the US dub now. That's a long re-dub of the original line of "I think he deserved it don't you" but I can't blame them 😄

A lot of people don't know this but Sir Top and Hat had secretly prmised Henry a cask of Amontillado and this was a secret revenge scheme all along

I hate that “The Adventure Begins” rewrites the backstory, making Henry just actually scared of the rain instead of being a prideful jerk, because it makes the punishment he gets MUCH worse. Henry in the original series deserved to be taken out of service for a while, his ego and pride hampered his performance and made into a jerk who didn’t care about anyone other than himself. But in TAB he visibly scared of the rain, so when Topham walls him off, it feels FAR crueler than to original. Imagine throwing someone in prison because they were scared of water? And it’s really weird cause in Blue Mountain Mystery, they do correctly poetry Sad Story of Henry, despite that movie taking place in the same timeline as TAB (which is the CGI timeline, since there’s evidence to suggest the model and CGI series take place in separate canons)

Oh they did that? Ironically by Adventure Begins censoring Henry's behaviour to be more friendly, they actually made the punishment much more severe and cruel. Clearly still alot for me to unravel in this series lol

My personal headcanon combines the two versions. I like to think Henry does have a fear of rain or anxiety issues, but he was too proud to admit to being scared/vulnerable. So, he said he was worried his paint would get ruined so he wouldn't have to open up about his struggles. Some of my friends in the Thomas discord server I'm in seem to like my interpretation.
