3:49 yeah I definitely agree with you. I would definitely lucky to grow up with such a great show like Thomas instead of the garbage that is Cocomelon! and that reminds me the creator of the Thomas TV show (Britt allcroft r.i.p) told the music producers (Michael O’Donnell and Junior Cambell). Not to talk down to kids. And I agree, kids deserve quality content Not only because it shaped them to be better people then they can rewatch it when they get older and appreciate it Cocomelon has none of those qualities

Pretty good video. Thought the bit on early 2010s YouTube was a kinda shallow take. Completely disregarding all the great YT animators and creators, yes the humor wasn’t high brow but that was the charm of old YouTube. And the attitude of YT being a slimy place that needs to be scrubbed is exactly what lead to kids dominating the platform and the childish dopamine slop like Cocomellon and finger family videos to thrive. YT was a raunchy place, and it should’ve never bended over backwards and sacrificed that identity. Also Hazbin Hotel is actually bad, Catching Up is a far better internet cartoon.

great video Josh, even if it kinda made me more depressed about the modern world than I already am XD, especially with Cocomeleon and Fanboy and Chum Chum god those are definately bottom of the barrell, would love to see a 'Best Cartoons I've ever reviewed' or 'cartoons I reviewed ages ago that I STILL enjoy'

20:31 I see you!

You can’t hide Sonic references from me!

"Hazbin Hotel is actually bad" is certainly something we disagree on and that 2010 lowbrow humour was charming we can definitely disagree on 😆 Also, what led to the "family finger fun" part of youtube was that it was incredible profitable to make kids videos as toddlers would mash on their tablets and give billions of views to surprise egg videos and "family finger fun" videos. This is also why "for kids" and "not for kids" was added to YouTube as kids accounts were being monetised and advertised to, which is illegal in many countries. In terms of it being a "shallow" take, that is simply my personal experience and how I felt about the 10 years of content I saw floating to the top of the algorithm. You're welcome to share your opinion too :)

No harm, but yeah we definitely have different opinions on how YouTube was. Plus, I just prefer kids watch actual quality programming or even read books instead. Even in old YouTube where people definitely still cared about making fun videos for people to watch, it was CERTAINLY not a place for a child. And still really isn’t now.

Honestly Hazbin is one of only few “adult cartoons” that I actually like. I say that in quotes because there are a lot of cartoons from the golden age that I can see being targeted towards adults, like Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes.

Owen Keys

2:57 dude I’d love to hear your opinion on the Minecraft movie!

M L

Yeah, I can see why you put most of those on the list, especially Cocomelon. I cannot stand seeing their ugly faces on diapers anymore, especially since I pick walk as my job.

While it's great to have the option to watch the no-ads version here, is it better for you if people watch it here, or wait for the ad version to come out?

Garfield_NotNermal

These cartoons are pretty abysmal safe to say I have that damn fanboy and chum chum song stuck in my head 😂 the Ren and Stimpy adult party cartoon was just nauseating it makes even the worst of South Park look tame it puts me off the original

Dude, my THREE year old looked at Barney and noped right out of there. This was the height of the Barney craze, all our friends were playing it for their kids.

Josh Strider

That's very thoughtful of you to ask Calvin thank you :) Just 1 dollar in Patreon is worth about 1,500 views on Youtube (1 ad-view is about a tenth of a cent) to so you already do more than enough in helping me pay the bills with 1 dollar so if you want to watch the ad-free version. I like comments and insight from patron members too as this is my closer community and I'm interested in feedback.

At least if I watch a video late now, I'll know I'm giving you a tiny tiny boost!

darkest hour

I have a soft spot for APC, I liked that it was willing to go there.

that Daily Wire animated show Mr Birchum is pretty dire as well. Terrible animation, really lame attempts at "gotcha!" right-wing humor and ironically the show fails at it's own premise as half of the time the titular character ends up making a fool of himself(getting stuck on one of his own machines in wood shop for a prolonged period of time, losing to the Chinese, etc)and the "take that's" towards the left-wing fall flat because they are more confusing then offensive(the one "progressive" guy who is basically Birchum's arch-rival is supposedly based off Vaush-someone who is not well liked by most progressives)and the animation looks pretty lousy(as it was done in Spain on the cheap, ironic for a show that's supposedly promoting "American values"). Also ironically some right-wingers actually got upset at the show and said they couldn't support it because one of Birchum's friends from the military happens to be gay. Oh yeah and this show does the "black conservative best friend" trope too except it does it twice, once with Birchum's best friend Don(who is voiced by Alonzo Harris whose politics are basically the polar opposite of Ben Shapiro, so he was definitely tricked into being on this show like Margot Kid-an avowed atheist was tricked into doing one of those godawful "Left Behind" movies by christian wacko Kirk Cameron)and again with his wife(voiced by that awful ghoul Megyn Kelly who does quite possibly the worst voice-acting by a woman i've ever heard in my life, she just sounds utterly lifeless)'s black female best friend(voiced by female hotep Sage Steele who got kicked off CNN for spouting bullshit conspiracy theories about COVID). Other famous people in this show are Danny Trejo(who apparently is broke so he'll take any job he's offered, and it shows as he sounds incredibly bored in his guest-appearance)and Roseanne(whatever talent she once had is long gone and she sounds awful and her character is easily the worst and most painfully unfunny person in the entire show). Oh yeah and Birchum also has a young daughter whose sole personality is to just mindlessly agree with him on everything and an older college-aged son who does video game streaming for a living(ironic that a show aimed at younger people is actively mocking gamers, not too bright). Sometimes it feels like the animators deliberately sabotaged the show out of spite towards the bigoted people in charge of it, as the flashbacks of Birchum with his son when he was younger seem to genuinely paint him as an abusive dad and he does not come off looking good at all. Also when the humor isn't just random right-wing statements disguised as jokes(HAHAHA it sure is funny watching Mr Birchum insult a black female employee of a store chain he hates or conservative-principal lady calling Birchum's rival a "social justice warrior, NOT!)it's just lamely ripping off other better shows like Family Guy(this show has cutaway gags too except really lazily done, like one is just a wolf saying that he's a Vegan and getting eaten by other wolves). Just an awful show all around, needlessly to say I did not pay a cent for it, I grabbed the entire series off Usenet out of morbid curiosity, i'll admit I laughed a few times(the Mr Beast expy being the one that jumps to mind)and sometimes the animation looks passable but overall it's a train-wreck and not in a fascinatingly bad way like "The Nutshack" mostly in just a lethargic soul-sucking way. Every time I finished an episode I felt numb and zombie-like afterwards. I can share the episodes with you if you really want to see how bad it is.

Garfield_NotNermal

That’s genuinely an interesting take 🤔 it’s true they were certainly very ballsy to go there even if it was extremely fucked up
