(he/him) Sunday Rundown! What an insane finale, this was an incredibly dystopian send off from the perspective of the Quincies, truly and soundly defeated. Not surprised with your confusion about where we go from here. Appreciated that you read my comment about Ichibei, I probably should have also mentioned that the chapter title 'back in black' was also discreetly referencing Ichibei's power being black. Now, while his fight with Black Ant was adapted from the manga, Senjumaru's was completely anime original, that entire side of the fight happened offscreen. Kubo had a significant role in this and he storyboarded Senjumaru’s entire scene as fabric rolls, for each Quincy. I've emailed this and some other storyboard information to Penguin. In a behind the scenes interview with Kubo and the director, Tomohisa Taguchi, they revealed their process for it. Tomohisa Taguchi: "Once the idea of “Zero Division Bankai” is settled upon, the next challenge arises: “whose Bankai will it be?” In the case of Senjumaru, who bears the meaning of 'having a thousand arms’ in her name, we assumed she probably specializes in doing battle with several opponents at the same time. Believing that It is precisely because she is suited for one-to-many battles, we considered her to be the person that the other members of Squad Zero could entrust their fight to without hesitation, so we proposed this to Kubo-sensei from the anime side around the same time." "The visual for Senjumaru’s Bankai itself was a completely original idea which we received from Kubo-sensei. The visual based on a giant loom and the depiction of its activation, abilities and techniques were also provided by Sensei through illustrated materials which he had drawn up for us. We then proceeded to develop a scenario based on that as a matter of course. We went through quite a number of drafts for the scene, but I believe it was an episode that was truly worth the effort. The scenario was finalized, and when it came time to consider how it could then be incorporated into a storyboard, we were fortunate to receive further guidance from Sensei on how to depict the scene. I’m not sure of the correct way to word this, but I believe we were able to deliver something with an impact which screams “This is BLEACH!” beyond what was imagined in the scenario. The enthusiasm of everyone involved is particularly evident." Kubo: "If I were to choose one person with the given course of events, I’d also have thought it would be Senjumaru who would take responsibility for turning the tide of this battle, so when I heard from the anime side that they wanted to make Senjumaru the Zero Division character to perform Bankai, I sensed the depth of understanding the anime production team had for the work the moment they made that proposal without me even saying anything. I am very grateful. It was also interesting how, in the process leading up to her Bankai, they cleverly utilized the idea that being part of the Zero Division means they’re ready to die. The way the seals of the four individuals were depicted is also great."

I'm thinking I should get back to the manga to finish this arc, then I'll enjoy the anime a lot more. There's probably a small few volumes left from where I left off.

iman

Honestly, just watch the anime. It is so much better than the manga, especially from where the normies are at rn.

#SundayRundown Bleach TYBW The amount of anime original content in these last 2 Ep finale as the half way point of this whole arc, as well as the new abilities we got is overwhelmingly insane. Most of Squad 0 in the manga was glossed over and only gave shine to Ichibe and Oetsu (Zanpakuto Creator) due to time constraints, but here they all got a chance to shin effectively beating the fraud allegations, especially Senjumaru as the sewing/weaver goddess that has created the clothing of the soul reapers and who’s Bankai before now was never revealed- The Fate and Reality altering BAN-KAI: Shatatsu Karagara Shigarami no Tsuji (“Gate of Saha, Kala's Corpse at the Crossroads of Piercing Entanglements”): Upon activation, the area around Senjumaru is enclosed by darkness while a torii-like structure rises from the ground. Senjumaru then extends her arms towards the structure as if in prayer. Emitting iridescent light, the gate expands to form a massive golden loom and produces endless swathes of red cloth that envelop the entire scene. This Bankai’s Special Ability: (“Loom of the Six-Colored Floating Patterns of Death”) allows Senjumaru to manipulate the space within her Bankai—literally weaving and sealing victims within her clothwork of their own fate. Her weavings possess unique patterns and powers. What follows is specifically tailored “prison cells” made for killing each and specific individual enemy.(“Unravel One Hank: Eyes of Many Branches”) against Lille Barro, who had The X-Axis turned against his own body by the mirrors. (“Unravel Two Hanks: Armor of Blade Metal”) against Askin Nakk Le Vaar, who was crushed by spiked metal silhouettes that he could not affect with The Deathdealing. Black Sand”) against Pernida Parnkgjas, who was unable to compress enough of the sand with The Compulsory before it was dragged down. (“Unravel Four Hanks: Freezing Bed Linens”) against Gerard Valkyrie, who had The Miracle stilled by his body being frozen. (“Unravel Five Hanks: Burning Field”) against Jugram Haschwalth, who had no target to reflect the damage sustained from the flames onto with The Balance. (“Unravel Six Hanks: Star of the Dark Night”) against Uryū Ishida This goes without saying but BLEACH is Poetic Peak Fiction and their Women are built different. Now as for Ichibe- Names hold meaning which give rise to power. The most ancient Zanpakuto Shikai: Ichimonji (Straight Line/One Written Character) It’s sealed form takes the form of a large calligraphy brush, which Ichibe uses to write calligraphic characters. Here’s it’s used to conceal the Soul King Palace through its Ink Manipulation. It has ink based spiritual powers, allowing Ichibe to manifest written characters that carry the power of their meaning. The most ancient and first evolved Bankai: Shirafude Ichimonji ("White Brush One Written Character") Uniquely, Ichibē activates his Bankai by calling out "Shin'uchi" ("True Blade") instead of Bankai, as Ichimonji was the first Zanpakutō to take on an evolved form long before the term "Bankai" existed. Upon activation, the blade of Ichibē's brush turns white and becomes a long, thick thread that coils in the air around him. Shin'uchi Special Ability: With Shirafude Ichimonji, Ichibē can give and change the name of targets who have been struck by the ink of Ichimonji by writing kanji on their body; doing so gives his target the properties and powers of the name granted. For example, by changing their name to Black Ant, making his opponent would be as weak and powerless as an ant, proceeding to change it’s meaning and existence. Final thoughts: While I can’t say that this part was better than part 1 due to the hype of having Bleach’s anime back as well as a far stronger and greater impact on the story plot setting up the whole arc, this part still had far greater consistent action animation as well as more characterization and extensions enhancing the manga, so for that reason, I’d say this part 2 was just as critically good as part 1 for those different reasons. All that’s left to say is that guess you could say Yhwach got Blacked and Clapped.

Brendan Arntz

I agree with iman. You can check it out to enjoy the art but at this time in the manga, Kubo was sprinting to the end of the story. The anime does a lot better job of fleshing it out and giving you critical info that was absent from the OG manga run

Castiel_01x

Honestly, my love for the final arc of the manga has increased a lot because of Aleczandxr. You guys should go through his VODs. The anime enhances the experience by adding elements that make it better, but only if you've read the manga.

Castiel_01x

Penguin, you should show them the manga panel where Yhwach's name was taken away when Zangetsu tried to say it to Ichigo by the ink in the next Sunday Rundown. Sorry, I just noticed how Iman's comment was read by them, so no need to mention it.

Kantor

Is he gonna do a video or should I just watch the vods

Castiel_01x

He's not going to do a video Zangetsu.

#SundayRundown #BLEACH I had the same concern at this point that Chris does. "There's too many good guys, not enough bad guys to fight. Are there more villains waiting in the wings who won't get any development, but will just show up to die immediately, or are most of the good guys just going to do absolutely nothing?" Obviously no spoilers, but rest assured, Cour 3 is satisfying in this regard, and filled with excellent surprises. --- So because of how they paced things, there was quite a bit of time left at the end of this episode, but Kubo wanted this season to end with Yhwach getting clapped, and to reveal nothing that happens after until the next cour. The solution was the "return" of the "Illustrated Guide To Soul Reapers", giving the animators a break, and having little visual novel vignettes of some of the more light-hearted bits that were cut from the manga. The Illustrated Guides, and other shorts at the end of episodes in the first series, were fully animated and often contained full on side-stories. Once again, I'm peeved that, apparently, no official online source for the episodes includes these omake, as they're called. I never knew this because I first watched the series through...unofficial means (😏), and since then, have collected the BluRays, which seem to be the only (legal) way for westerners to own the episodes with omake attached.

Adan Guzman

True but he should read the manga anyway because the anime still cuts out things that never showed up

Michael Acuna

I would go back to the manga just for the sake of Kubo's artwork, then back to the anime for the voice acting and hip music. I hope both endings will leave me crying.

#SundayRundown Bleach(reposted/edited from last week) I assume everyone is gonna do it but here is my explanation of Askin’s ability. Askin Nakk Le Vaar. Schrift: The Death Dealing. He has control over the concept of the lethal dose. The lethal dose is the amount at which any substance becomes toxic or fatal to the individual. Askin can lower that amount at will, for that he must ingest said substance and the more he ingests the more he can lower it. Example. Let’s say the lethal amount of water is 16 cups a day, if Askin drinks a bunch of water he can make it so that the lethal dose is 3 cups of water. Now the catch is that one cannot survive without drinking at least 5 cups a day. That was the trick he used on Oetsu with his blood. Also Askin managed to poison Tenjiro, the trick he employ was to use his orbs to poison the water, if you remember Tenjiro stepped on a green puddle and stopped moving, that’s when he was poisoned. Regarding episode 25, half of it is anime original. Uryu never fights Senjumaru or Jugram never duels Tenjiro. It’s in episode 26 where most of the changes occurred, since the point Oetsu is shot everything is anime original except for the Ichibei fight. In the manga this section was so hated cause after Oetsu gets shot the hole “fight” happens offscreen and when we return its already over. Also this episode was gonna have a different name but because of production issues it was cut in half and given a new title, that’s why the last portion is a gag segment. But for cour 3 they gave them an extra episode to compensate for the lost content. I know you’re gonna love cour 3, it has some of the best moments in the series and it’s currently the best rated anime season of all time with each almost every episode getting a 9 or above.

MarkyO

#SundayRundown Bleach As you can probably imagine, people weren't happy about this ending. Especially seeing Kon at the end it was like "wtf just happened". But there were known production issues for this season and they showed up in the end. Consequently, "Studio Pierrot" created a sub-division called "Pierrot Films" to focus on quality without time constraints. Production will be longer but the quality higher. People have probably already mentioned, much of this episode was anime only. Nimaya was assumed to be dead after he got shot the first time. Everything after Senjumaru rescuing him and healing him is all new. There was no epic battle. That entire sequence with Squad Zero was literally off-screened, except the Ichibe vs Yuha fight was in the manga. So as far as Senjumaru's bankai, everything is speculation at this point. I wish I could give you my take on what her bankai is, but that would venture into spoiler territory.

Nabeshin

His power is meant to be confusing at this point and gets fully explained in Cour 3.

SBR Calaminator

They ran out of time to adapt any further and decided that it was the best stopping place to have squad zero seemingly win, so this episode was supposed to be part of the next episode or rather vice versa. That’s why this episode had no keyword page.

G’Rale Gambino

#sundayrundown. … squad zero bankai was not a fusion of all 4 …. It was a seal released allowing 1 to actually use their true sword ….. so it is the natural power of one member that shakes all of reality heavens and earths of the 3 realms . This means that if 2 squad zero members are alive while one is in bankai, the entire balance of the universe would be tipped …. Cementing bleach as the strongest in big 3 and into dragon ball tiers

Annah Suarez-Domit

#Sunday Rundown Yeah, sudden Kon jumpscare at the end was insane. As the others have mentioned this episode had a lot of anime only stuff. In the original manga Senjumaru didn't unleash her Bankai and instead Squad 0's fight was greatly reduced. In the manga this entire back half of the Thousand Year Blood War was actually pretty rushed as an arc, since Kubo was facing some serious health issues both mental and physical. He actually mentioned in an interview that he was close to giving up on Bleach until he received a letter from a 10 year old fan who had passed away and who's final wish was to have a letter of encouragement sent to Kubo. He said that the letter was what gave him the strength to finish up Bleach the way he wanted to.

Step B.

#SundayRundown (hopefully): Just for clarification cause it was brought up you guys have indeed met every Sternritter now, but a couple of the letters haven't been revealed so you don't know their power. Not counting Gerard and Pernida cause we don't know what letter they have A (Not revealed yet) - Uryu = maybe dead? B (Balance) - Jugram = maybe dead? D (Death Dealing) - Askin = maybe dead? E (Explode) - Bambietta. Bam-bi-et-ta not Bam-bee-ta XD = zombie for Giselle F (Fear) - As Nodt = killed by Rukia G (Glutton) - Liltotto = alive H (Heat) - Bazz-B = alive I (Iron) - Cain-Du = executed by Jugram J (Jail) - Quilge = killed by Grimmjow K (never revealed) - BG9 = executed by Jugram L (Love) - Pepe = eaten by Liltotto N (never revealed) - Robert = killed by Auswahlen O (Overkill) - Driscoll = killed by Yamamoto P (Power) - Meninas = presumably killed by Auswahlen Q (Question) - Berenice = killed by Kenpachi R (Roar) - Jerome = also killed by Kenpachi S (SUPERSTAR) - James/Mask = killed by Renji T (Thunderbolt) - Candice = presumably killed by Auswahlen U (I don't remember if it's been revealed yet) - Nanana = maybe killed by Auswahlen? V (Visionary) - Gremmy = technically killed by Kenpachi W (Wind) Nianzol = killed by Senjumaru X (X-Axis) - Lille = maybe dead? Y (Yourself) - the twins Loyd and Royd = one killed by Kenpachi, the other killed by Yamamoto Z (Zombie) - Giselle = unfortunately alive

SilentCilantro

wow, i'm surprised no one pointed it out, if you go waaaaayyyyyyyy back to the first opening for OG bleach, "Asterisk" by PelleK, one quick part shows Tatsuki and Orihime spray painting graffiti of kon and its spelled out as "King Of Ny"

Meh

I would say don't bother. Been avoiding saying it but I just shy of hated TYBW manga. There were certainly parts I wanted to see animated (like Yamamoto's fight), but overall wasn't really looking forward to the anime at all when it was announced. Clearly they've WAY exceeded my expectations now.

Masked Void

[Tidbits] - We see that Ichibei clearly doesn't respect or hold Humans in high regard, he speaks as if they are below him. This is dope because we see that he and Yhwach are practically complete opposites yet both are willing to go to any length to win. Ichibei operates in a callous manner caring only about the Balance of the world, in contrast, Yhwach is a being that is forced to feel the suffering of humanity (or at least those that return to him) and he seeks to destroy the system that allows it (His feeling of superiority is further on show when he turns him into an ant and steps on him) - This season while still phenomenal had tons of scheduling and production issues, so the team wasn't able to do everything they wanted and it's why this episode was kinda cut short. For reference, a 12-episode season of anime usually takes at least about a year to produce, however Cour 2 of Bleach TYBW only had about 6 months. [Lotta writing beyond this point for those Interested] - "Nobody can take anything from me" & "Everything in this world exists for me to take it" These two lines by Yhwach are VERY important to his character once we get more context. Kubo uses it in a way that appears more so as a boast, so many readers/viewers tend not to think much of it. In short and without spoiling of course, It's important to think of the position of Yhwach (specfically in the eyes of the Quincy) by name and concept he is their God, and they look to him for a specific reason. He is meant to be their "Savior" a Savior is someone who protects others from danger. This is done on purpose, as it's setting up a parallel with Ichigo, whose name means "One who Protects" while also being his inverse. Ichigo learning at an early age that his name meant that, is what gave him the purpose and intent of wanting to protect his mother. We know he failed, and from that accident he felt he had to protect people in his mother's stead. This is the 1st of many examples in Bleach which equivocates "names" with "fate given by something higher". [We see it here as well with Ichibei giving Yhwach a name, and that name changing what Yhwach is capable of] Throughout much of the story Ichigo accepts that Fate "One who protects", but the problem was that it was done out of duty, a role he was fated to do. Last season with The Blade is Me, Ichigo who "was born in darkness" learned of the truth, becoming one with himself and so he changed his fate by Choosing! to Protect instead of doing it from a place of ignorance. As it stands this may all seem like random ramblings (my apologies) but I really think it's important to keep in mind and this will make more sense later on. Last episode we saw Yhwach returning his own voice, against the man who presides over names, which again, in Bleach is tied to Fate (You could say that Ichibei presides over fate) . Yhwach is one who rebels against fate, and the same can be said of Ichigo. (again sorry for typing so much, and it'll all make sense when we get to the end of this arc)

StuntonemSteve

Still no release date for Cour 4 but supposed to be announced at Anime Expo in I believe July. Since there will be alot more original content, I'm guessing early next year? Who's taking bets lol.

StuntonemSteve

I did not know that. Thanks for pointing that out.

Shockzz1234

Hahah Suraj at 12:44 in the reaction - "I'm ok with Ichigo and them not being there yet because we do need to take our time - coz if those five went down that easy it would have been like "well that's disappointing" this whole Royal Palace etc i'm glad we had that huge ass fight". Yeah hahaha imagine all this didn't happen and the Squad Zero went down super easy, that would suck right hahahaha *sweats and cries in manga reader*

Step B.

Anime onlys will never know the pain we felt witnessing Fraud 0 in action 😭

Unstablebeast

No suraj senjumarus bankai didnt have aspects of all of them, it was just her, all 4 of them are so strong that if all 4 used bankai at once, they would destroy all 3 worlds, so they sealed it so only when 3 of them die can the last one use bankai

Kayso

Goated finale. Senjumaru is a savage lmao her bankai is broken and let's not get started on Ichibe. He showed Yhwach its levels to this. Felt so good hearing the OG ost's remixed, precipice of defeat, treachery, also raw breath of danger (during Senjumaru bankai scene)

Kayo Uchiha

Senjumaru Oath Seal release Bankai is as strong if not stronger than Perfect Cell from DBZ. Do the math.

YungZeus

Ngl, I wasn’t feeling Ichibe’s dub voice, but now I’m kind of digging it. His voice reminds me of Augus from Asura’s Wrath (not the same va tho).

cris janssen

Why does this crap not work? wasted money
