HDP | Pluribus 1x6 | Group Reaction

Pat, Navi, Chris., Marketa, and Spidey present their reaction and review to Pluribus Season 1 Episode 6 (HDP) Writer: Vera Blasi Director: Gandja Monteiro - Spoiler Alert - In Pluribus Season 1 Episode 6, titled “HDP,” author Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn) continues her search for truth after uncovering the disturbing food supply mystery in the previous episode. Carol films her shocking discovery inside a warehouse and drives to Las Vegas to share what she’s learned with fellow unjoined survivor Koumba Diabaté (Samba Schutte), who is living a flamboyant lifestyle with support from the hive mind called the Others. Once there, Carol learns the Others have already developed a video message starring John Cena as a hive messenger explaining their dietary needs. Because they refuse to harm any living beings, the Others supplement their nutrition with something called Human Derived Protein (HDP), which comes from deceased humans. Meanwhile, another immune survivor, Manousos Oviedo (Carlos-Manuel Vesga), receives one of Carol’s videos and decides to embark on a journey out of isolation. As the episode closes, both Carol and Manousos are on paths that may lead them toward each other in the struggle against a world reshaped by the Joining. Megan Koler

He is from Mauritania, not Brazil.

#SundayRundown To paraphrase the late, great Roddy Piper: Just when you think you have the answers, Vince Gilligan changes the questions. Speaking of pro wrestlers, 2025 was the year of John Cena - I knew that's what Pat was reacting to when I saw the thumbnail. Bienvenue is French for welcome, by the way. You would see it on signs when entering Quebec.

I have to wonder if the virus was designed by an alien species that wants sedated cattle. Imagine an alien invasion in season 3 or 4, which forces Carol and the hive mind team up? I don't think that's where we're going, but it's a thought.

This is probably the first time I've agreed with Pat lol

PhaseOut

The voice on the phone btw is the actor who played Howard Hamlin from Better Call Saul

Kwame James

Just to clear things up the way I understand their less like a virus and more like a computer code their code stops them from lying and doing anything to knowingly cause harm to a living thing so Spidey if they had the ability to shake a tree which they know would drop fruit then they would be able to push someone into a car to get more food

Kwame James

And pat takes are always hilarious so they got permission to turn everyone and it takes two people to kiss lol never let him on a SA jury the will be like she kissed me pat ok cool yall kissed no crime happen case closed

håkon

how is it sa? heard someone else call it sa aswell but i dont see how

Kwame James

SA is sexual assault so kissing someone with out their consent is a form of sexual assault

The Testimony of Mushroom

There is nothing in the show that indicates this. The hive mind is a new mind despite being built from pre-existing minds - they(singular) have their own values. The only sequence from space was interpreted as RNA for a virus like structure; we don't even know if the scientists built the same sequence or stumbled upon something similar enough that it enables wifi connection between people. We don't know where their moral values come from but the show seems to indicate that the moral values of the single hive mind develop in the same way our human values develop but it happens during the large joining event where many minds are formed into one. There may be genetic components to their value structures (as there may be in humans) but we don't learn about their values until they are composed of billions of people. Despite being quite knowledgeable the hive-mind is very young and stil learning about itself. The inability to lie does seem in part to mimic infant development and we do see the hive-mind learning to be deceptive. It's really just a guess as to whether the hive mind arrived at these values mostly through experience, reasoning and evaluation of the memories it inherited or if the virus included some bias or boot-strapping mechanism along with the "psychic glue" technology.
