It’s the BEST one!! Superman (2025) - Group Reaction

Scenes we missed: https://youtu.be/WN9Dc8m-Tqc Kindness is the real punk rock. Superman 2025 delivered on all expectations for us. We loved this film! These movies are in great hands with James Gunn! David Corenswet did amazing as Clark/Supes and Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnohan were also great. The Justice Gang (not League) were well utilized too with Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner Green Lantern and Mr. Terrific. Isabela Merced is ah ing a heck of a year. Can’t wait for Milly Alcock’s Supergirl movie next year! This film really shows how much James Gunn understands Superman as a character with the speech he gave Lex as well as him saving that squirrel. It’s crazy to imagine that was almost cut due to negative feedback with test screen audiences. Saving that squirrel shows how much Superman values life and does his best to save everyone including that giant monster in that same scene. James stuck to his Gunns when he decided not to cut that out.

Love that we get a very full couch for this!

I’m glad you guys loved it & that had a full couch for this - He can go by different names but he’s usually recognized as Metamorpho - Angela/The Engineer is the comics in a group known as The Authority - That Pa Kent scene gets everybody. Blind Wave & others cried or got teared up during that

The Greater-Scope Villain

I think Lex’s motivation makes sense. From his perspective, if humanity comes to rely on Superman to handle all of their problems for them, then they’ll become dependent on him and eventually stop being able to take care of themselves properly. The reasoning makes sense, regardless of whether or not he’s ultimately right. It’s the same reason why Vandal Savage, Lex Luthor, and the other members of The Light from the “Young Justice” show do what they do: to make everyone “see the Light”, i.e., how the evolution of humankind is being hindered by the “heroes” that protect it from the needed factors to evolve. According to Savage, Superman and the Justice League inhibited mankind by protecting it from disaster, crime, and tragedy, which to The Light are the necessary factors needed for humanity to evolve. If humanity is protected from struggle, then they wouldn’t be motivated to evolve and adapt. Progression would stall, stagnation would reign. This is essentially what main comics Lex is thinking, something that he shares with his Young Justice counterpart.

There's a thing I've heard talked about, that we rarely see heroes trying to limit collateral damage during fights. The MCU played with the idea of there being consequences for this sort of oversight, but this movie has Superman actively fighting not just to be the villain, but to protect the people and city around him from being caught in the collateral. It serves to make fights we know Superman can win much more interesting and helps show off how genuine he is in his heroism when he will risk his life to save even a random squirrel.

It's crazy that Boravia predates Israel, Boravia came first in comics.

NICK Luna

One of my favorite comic book movies next to the Dark Knight. You feel this Superman actually cares about everyone including animals. He tries to do the right thing, even though it's not always the popular thing. Onto Peacemaker season 2.

Dixie_Normous

fun fact Krypto the Superdog in the new Superman film is entirely CGI,

Michael Acuna

Finally! I've been waiting for this dynamically cool reaction to come out! I actually cried three times watching this in theaters, it's like Super Friends in real life.

-James Gunn said in interviews that Eve doesn't have weird toes, Jimmy just has issues. -David Corenswet grew up in Philly. Most of us Philly people very nice I swear. An Always Sunny cameo would be awesome in the future. -The most successful Green Lantern in film happens to be the most disliked Green Lantern in DC comics, that's funny. In Young Justice there's a joke that Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart both hate Guy Gardner. -In The Suicide Squad (2021) the lady who knocks out Amanda Waller with a golf club shows up in this movie. She is at the government meeting at beginning, her character is Director Crowley, and apparently she runs the FBI in this movie. Which means she got a big promotion since Suicide Squad. She and Rick Flag Sr. are the only people who call Lex Luthor out on his BS in that meeting.

Superman: Hey, maybe we can all be a bit kinder to one another? Lex: NAH, I'm going to start a genocide JUST to hate on you better!

My main issue with the movie was that it seemed to be really driving home how good of a person Superman is. But despite the “my kindness is my superpower” message, he solves pretty much all his problems by punching them. His big dilemma in the beginning is pretty much sidestepped when the Justice Gang steps in and performs his political assassination for him. And the issue with this speaks to why people find supes boring sometimes: certain versions of him “do the right thing” but the plot basically says that the right thing doesn’t solve the problem and someone else ends up taking care of it anyway (the JG in this case). Of course we’re all happy to see it, but his morality (supposedly the bedrock of his character) is hardly tested. So why present the dilemma in the first place? I was very excited about Mr. Terrific but he was honestly just the “I’m smart cause typing and gadgets” trope and the impatient black character trope mashed together. Shame cause the actor is capable of so much more. I didn’t care for the movie but wish we could have a genuine discussion about it without “anti-woke” racist grifters and arguments about Man of Steel.

I just wanna throw it out there, as a bottom feeding gutter punk that has been In multiple punk bands in multiples scenes... Punk Rock was ALWAYS about kindness. Because that was always counter culture. Punk Rock has always been about fucking up Nazis and embracing weirdos.

slimeball

fun fact that was christopher reeves son who announced the justice gang on the news (also the baby being named joey makes me goofy happy)

Steve Harvey Dent

Fun fact. This isn't Anthony Carrigan first time as a dc character. But this is his first time as a dc hero. Before metamorpho he was a couple of dc villain like victor zazie in Gotham and The Mist in the flash.

HouseDogget

#SundayRundown I see why people are bothered by the parents twist, but for me it works because they absolutely aren't his parents. They didn't raise him. And honestly Superman choosing to be good works better if both his parent figures aren't telling him to be this worlds savior.

Bob

Flying scenes were really underwhelming compared to man of steel

Jon Mercano

The sound effect at the end of Lex’s Planet Watch presentation is the same sound effect of the darksaber! SW is everywhere!

I think y'all are the first reaction I saw that actively acknowledged the Gaza parallel... Kudos and respect.
