#sundayrundown he's finally here. Dubfact in funimation sanji dub voice is eric val. His sanji voice is a mix of trunks, Solf J. Kimblee(fmab) and the DBZ World Martial Arts Tournament announcer. But for his 4kids dub David Moo give Sanji a thick, exaggerated Brooklyn/New York accent, sounding more like a 1930s gangster or a New York waiter than a suave chef. Here the funimation voice https://youtu.be/-_MqfJL0HC0?si=a6misNnEZJPyG7JD. And here's the 4kids version https://youtu.be/riFKTeYyd2E?si=r_ZazNs0dfmGH5Xo. Also in the 4kids version they switched the win for grape juice to protect the kids.

Whoa, I did not know about this "Kuina actually committed suicide" angle, lmao. I guess it makes more sense than she slipped and fell down the stairs. I always just chalked that up to Oda's early writing not being informed by the eventual scale of the entire series. Dying in such a way seems plausible at this point of the story.

#SundayRundown #OnePiece This is the first time I heard of "falling down the stairs" being a Japanese euphemism for suicide, and honestly, though extremely tragic, it makes WAY more sense than Kuina literally falling down some stairs. I know there's the whole "You never know when someone's life can end randomly. Human beings are just fragile." theme, but first of all, that's not really what the point of that whole flashback was, and second, the world of "One Piece" completely contradicts that theme at every turn. This is a crazy world where physics is defied constantly, every action has meaning, and no man, woman, or child is capable of just dying randomly. That being said, neither in the anime, nor in the manga, do we actually SEE what happens (although in the manga we do see the body at the funeral). Thus, the death of Kuina is still hotly debated to this day. 😛 EDIT: I just came back to this comment and realized I accidentally tagged it with Yu Yu Hakusho. First time I've made that mistake. Time to put the correct tag under the other comment. 😂

#SundayRundown One Piece ya yo ya yo Looking into it, the euphamism thing isn’t real, at least not for self killing. Hiding abuse or bullying, sure. Kuina’s unceremonious death is meant to show that it could happen to anyone. People die in mundane boring ways all the time regardless of who they are Although apparently there’s a new theory thanks to something recent. And also Oda hides so much, there may be a secret explanation that just hasn’t been revealed

GoldArthur

The father wasn't being sexist. He was being realistic. Her goal was to be the strongest. The best of the best, in a field that men have natural advantages in. He was trying to get her to adjust her expectations so she wouldn't be miserable. I think leading her on to chase an impossible goal would have been worse.

StrawHat

#sundayrundown it was never confirmed that it was a suicide and for me it never made sense tbh. I mean yea she had struggled with being a female swordsman but right before she died her and zoro made a promise and she got motivated again. i dont see her doing that after a moment like that. also Sanji my goatt

Tony

already on ep 20 Glad you guys are liking the show!

GodUsopp

#sundayrundown Kuina becoming the strongest swordsman in the world was imposisble because of the natural physical limitations of a regular human girl, becoming a swordsman def is about physical strength but also fast twitch muscle fibers and how much damage you can take while fighting and stuff like that, so the dad wasnt trying to be sexist or anything just realistic

Michael Acuna

Seeing his backstory, his training, and his connection with Kuina, it's amazing just to see Zoro's journey to becoming the greatest swordsman. Also, Chef Zeff and his sous chef are pretty cool based on their first introduction.

Ivy

Sanji fans RISE! 😤

Badsos123

THE INFAMOUS LEGEND OF DOWN D. STAIRS!!!

Dale Cooper

In the manga Full Body asks what the bug is doing in his soup and Sanji says it's doing the backstroke. #sundayrundown Fun fact Sanji is based off of Steve Buscemiin in Reservoir Dogs.

Dale Cooper

The suicide thing also doesn't make sense because she didn't hit a wall or life changing event. The last we saw her she was renewed with extra motivation from the conversation with Zoro.

Tony

I first watch Zoro’s backstory when I was in the 10th grade…. I’m 30 now…. And I’m just now realizing how Kuina truly died…… and I am not ok 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Xonok

Sanji enters the building! Also, I'm still in denial about Kuina dying the fact that falling down stairs can kill any character in One Piece, I find it ridiculous.

Veritas

Imagine she was holding a sword

Veritas

#sundayrundown That stairs euphemism is not real and never was. It is just an old reddit theory that spread over the years. Look how many here who never heard of it just believed it without verifying! I'm shaking my head every time I see it. Kuina had an actual accident and she never gave up. Accidents can suddenly happen to anyone and they did happen to many of my relatives in life. That's the point of her story, people are fragile.

Shockzz1234

Still don't get why they changed that joke in the anime lmao

Starksego

Finally the best straw hat appearing!

Cliff Douglas

She self deleted bro. You kinda have to get a grip on that fact.

Phil

Yes thank you. "Falling down the stairs" being a euphemism for suicide is NOT a thing in Japan AT ALL. It's something the One Piece fans made up for no reason. Chris is correct Kuina's is death was nothing more than a random freak accident

Veritas

Nah bro, you need to prove it. Believing everything you read online isn’t smart. If you’re not just trolling me, maybe find actual Japanese people who can verify that euphemism is real. Like at least two would be cool. If that’s too hard, don’t spread things that aren’t true. Someone made it up and you need to get a grip on that.

Dale Cooper

It really is quick and snappier.

Phil

It's not what actually happened. It's a theory that started on a one piece Reddit page and someone probably told it to Ketty and presented it as a fact

Mr. Toastman

Yeah, after thinking about it some more, I’m more doubtful about it, lmao

Xonok

I think Oda will reveal more details about Kuina's death in an epilogue after the last chapter. Every time, I see Zoro's flashback I'm on the camp that Koushirou killed Kuina. I can see Kuina openly challenging her dad to prove that she's a strong swordsman, and Koushirou accidently gave her a fatal wound since he couldn't hold back. Koushirou's comment about human's are fragile makes more sense to me in that context.

Ivandro Moreira

Is the other way around. There is no such thing as Falling down the stairs being euphemism for suicide! More, even if it was, is not used as euphemism in this case. They specifically start talking about the detail of the fall. Kuina simply, like people in real life, died by falling down the stairs and had a ball fall. Get over it.

Ivandro Moreira

There is no debate today. You have "fans" like you, that don't want to believe what is given to you, and so you make up things that aren't there. People in real life also survived impressive things that no one would believe is possible, and also people died to things less harmful as falling stairs. People have died from just falling.

Veritas

@Ivandro Moreira I can only assume you misunderstood my comment so I fixed some punctuation. To be clear, you agree with my point.

Chipper God

as funny as it is "falling down the stairs" is basically oda saying she commited suicide, its a phrase used in japan to soften the blow of the matter (usually related to children) :(

Veritas

That's a myth! Stop spreading it!

fr0st

Came here to say this. It was just a theory and not fact. Kuina was super motivated and had no reason to do that to herself. Life is just abruptly ended due to an accident sometimes and everyone left behind just has to grieve and deal with it however they can.

Erias Nightwing

Is kuni a slur in another language? It just means "land" in Japanese.
