The Fall of the House of Usher | Episode 8 The Raven | Group Reaction

Pat, Chris, Marketa, Navi, and Rana present their review for The Fall of the House of Usher | Episode 8 (The Raven) Written by Mike Flanagan & Kiele Sanchez Directed by Michael Fimognari - Spoiler Alert - In this gripping finale, the collapse of the Usher empire hits its final, inevitable reckoning. Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood) comes full circle as he confesses his sins to C. Auguste Dupin (Carl Lumbly) and faces the literal and metaphorical collapse of his family’s legacy. Madeline Usher (Mary McDonnell) resurfaces from the basement .. bloodied, sightless, unstoppable and enacts her final act of revenge, strangling Roderick as the house crumbles around them. The mysterious and omnipresent Verna (Carla Gugino) stands on the ruins, revealed as the dark force behind the deals that doomed the Ushers. A raven flies off into the storm, signifying the end. And through all of it the themes of generational corruption, power for sale, and a doomed bloodline come into stark focus tying to the original Edgar Allan Poe story and beyond. This episode brings the haunted Usher legacy to its final chapter. #SundayRundown Two words... Midnight Mass. If you thought Hamish Linklater was incredible in Gen V, you ain't seen nothing yet. Lenore was the only good Usher. And it was heartbreaking that she had to go down with the rest of them. At least it was peaceful. Pym went out like a G. Yeah, he's horrible, but he's still better than the Ushers. Mike Flanagan is the king of bittersweet endings. I loved the post-series discussion, and I agree wholeheartedly with Marketa and Billie Eilish. But you're forgetting the things that make billionaires billionaires, stop them from being human. Chris also has a point; there is hard evidence that every million you make after a certain number (I think ten million) makes you less empathetic and more psychopathic.

It wasn't a scary show like Haunting of Hill House but still a tremendously good show. I'm so glad you chose this, Normies, and I'm happy I got to rewatch it again with you.

Since Chris asked at the end: please consider watching The Glory next. It's a Korean drama on Netflix I think this crew will enjoy immensely (would be even lovelier if more joined the couch for it); it's great for reactions in general. It does require reading subs but I hope that's not a deal breaker for Pat (since everyone else is used to it from subbed anime).

There is no "solving" world hunger or homelessness. Or rather, one person cannot do it alone. The biggest issues people forget about are logistics and politics. We already produce enough food to feed the whole world. Setting up the infrastructure and systems to get the food to where it needs to be, dealing with global and local politics, and employing people to handle these tasks would take an unimaginable amount of money and coordination. This is not even accounting for corruption, extortion, and other selfish and evil things that people do. "Ginzo has trillions of dollars and is trying to solve world hunger and homelessness! My city desperately needs his help but since he's so rich, let's try and grift him a bit. " Now multiply that by millions of people. You're also likely going to make enemies among other billionaires, governments, and corporations for various reasons so you'll have to deal with the roadblocks they put in your way. It still is possible, but it's not guaranteed and I don't blame anyone for not wanting to take up the challenge. I think that's why you see rich people donating to institutions or research they know are working towards change or something where they can immediately see the benefits. The less hands your money has to touch, the more likely it's going to be used for good. In general, everyone doesn't operate with the same moral compass and you don't become a billionaire without learning how to navigate the extremes of both sides. You hear a lot of rich people say money can't solve their problems and that likely is true. The real issue is people, human nature.

My first job was at JC Penny warehouse working the compact machine and when I tell you at the end and beginning of the year how much good merchandise we would destroying for like a month straight was mind blowing. I ask my manager why they just don't give it away he was like Mr Penny would rather destroy it

Vivian Woods

I put it simply to a friend of mine and they stopped talking..... when given the chance you act like the very crap and evil people you hate. if you as an individual refuse to learn any ways to be sustainable and stop feeding the machine what makes you think the machine is going to stop any time soon? people pushed into corners are the most dangerous, and self care is king. people unable to grow onions yelling at the people that feed us is almost a bad joke without the realization. because they never stop buying and never actually impact the billionaires.

If yall want more Mike Flanagan, Midnight Mass is really good

Jamaal Ellison

So he's really not coming? Are you freaking serious? He never shows up, not even a reference. They don't even play one of his songs. These are my confessions or something like that. I came in here because I wanted to see Usher. That was the point of the show for me, and he doesn't even show up. 5 out of 10.

To answer Chris, yes, I for one enjoy you all more because I agree with your politics. The only thing I don't like about this show's narrative is that the Sacklers, and sociopaths like them, would take Lenore's mother's legacy of helping others as an "excuse." As if they can wipe away the guilt of millions of deaths and millions more destroyed lives, just by banking on someone somewhere having a conscience and a little bit of money. Like Chris said, "they create the problem and sell you the solution." Actual cancers in human form.
