Pat, Navi, Chris., Marketa, and Spidey present their reaction and review to Pluribus Season 1 Episode 2 (Pirate Lady) Writer & Director: Vince Gilligan - Spoiler Alert - In Pluribus Season 1 Episode 2, titled “Pirate Lady,” author Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn) continues to grapple with her new reality after an alien-derived phenomenon known as the “Joining” has fused most of humanity into a peaceful hive mind. It’s been roughly 11 hours since the transformation, and Carol wakes up still struggling with shock, grief, and disbelief. Carol tries to bury her partner Helen (Miriam Shor) and comes face to face with Zosia (Karolina Wydra), a representative of the hive mind whose appearance strangely mirrors a character from Carol’s own novel. Their uneasy encounter reveals that Carol’s emotional outbursts can momentarily disrupt the hive but at a terrible cost. As Carol pushes forward with frustration and resistance, she learns more about how the “Others” operate and even seeks to connect with other remaining immune individuals. While the collective isn’t violent, Carol’s fierce independence and refusal to accept this new world continue to set her apart. To be honest I’d be doing at least some of what Diabate was doing (living it up) if I were in the same position. But I’d try to hear Carol out at least.

Its good to remember these hivemind are people who have had their agency robbed and turned into meat puppets and that Carol is not a shitty person for respecting their bodily autonomy and trying her hardest not to participate in their slave labor. Her angst toward the hive comes from a genuine place of anger not just for the loss of Helen, but because all of them have also been robbed of their lives. How is she supposed to happily participate in that. You don't need family to have empathy for others. And thats not even getting into we don't know what ulterior motive there is. They present as non-violent and honest (even though they could probably easily anticipate almost a billion deaths required to accelerate the "joining"), but who actually knows what their end game is there.

I wonder if the other non infected people are calmer because their loved ones are still around, infected yes but still around. Carol lost her closest loved one. I have to remind myself that Carol is mourning. At around 34:45 on the uncut Chris heard the word "Escape Pod" and was very interested. I think the characters were talking about the Harrison Ford movie "Air Force One" which has an escape pod scene. The characters were probably wondering where the escape pod is. Officially Air Force One doesn't have an escape pod in real life. While they might be lying, none of those air plane nerds on the internet have ever found an escape pod sized hatch on Air Force One.
