#SundayRundown My opinion on characters dying is that I never felt that a show or movie needed to kill their main characters every season or movie for it to be considered good. We have entered this age of TV/Movies where people truly believe that if main characters aren't dying then the story isn't good and that couldn't be further from the truth( I blame GOT). Stranger Things, to me, was never supposed to be a Greek Tragedy, it was always meant to be a hopeful show, I knew that back in S1 when instead of killing Will, they saved him. Also the excuse (It's more realistic that way) doesn't apply when the show has literal Demogorgans from another dimension, coming to kidnap kids and kill people. Now with that being said, I have found MANY faults with this season, more negatives than positives honestly, so the season is far from perfect but main characters not dying is not one of those issues for me.

Counterpoint: Stakes. Death doesn’t have to be the only stake a show can use. But when it’s horror and thriller and the brutality of the villain is blatant. Then yes. You need to atleast show that there are stakes for your main characters. 5 seasons? Yes death needs to be a part of it. Subjective I guess.

I strongly disagree, you can have high stakes in your show and not have to kill your main characters , if you're a good writer that is. In the case of Stranger Things, I never felt that the stakes weren't high throughout the entire show even though I was also 100% sure our characters weren't going to die. It wasn't until this season where I felt the stakes weren't high, but for a multitude of reasons that have nothing to do with our characters not dying.

Even though I know Steve was being a jerk to Dustin on how he handled criticizing Eddie, I have to agree with him about how Dustin wanted to pick a fight with the people picking on him. I still haven’t forgiven him for the snake in the locker thing. If you’re going to prank someone DON’T give them an animal you care about that they can use to hurt you back! Jake the snake didn’t deserve that. 😭

#SundayRundown Marketa and Rana need to sit next to each other more so they can keep jump scaring each other LOL Also calling it now, in the finale an enraged Ted Wheeler is going to wake up from his coma, rip off his shirt revealing a jacked bod. He's going to wolverine run across the Upside Down karate chopping Demogorgon heads clean off. After a brief but intense battle he's going to rip Vecna's heart right out and devour it becoming the new Number 1 sealing the rifts once and for all and becoming the stoic guardian of the two worlds.

Agreed. There's no need to kill off main characters for there to be "stakes". What higher stakes are there than the end of the world? I can still enjoy a show without main characters dying. The world is bleak enough and the reality of death comes for us all. There's nothing wrong with our fantasies at least for the moment having victory over death.
