#SundayRundown NGL, guys like Tony B remind me of my dad (same name even) —those old-school, rough-and-tough guys who are smart and try to better themselves, but they occasionally let their vices get the better of them - do some dirt and break their share of bones. Tony B was always my guy from the first episode I saw him in.

Can't stand the priest, probably my least favorite live action character in a sitcom ever, ugh

#SundayRundown Father Phil has been rigidly uncompromising about where The Church stands on moral issues whenever anybody goes to him for advice. At the same time it feels like a hypocrite because his parishioners are clearly giving heavily & he's benefiting from illicit activities all while claiming the moral high ground. In addition there's a part of him hidden not too deep in his subconscious which wants Carmella carnally & possibly more than that. I think he's resentful that she isn't bound to her faith in the same way he is & can pursue happiness without much stigma to it.

#SundayRundown Carmella I believe had deep feelings for Wegler. He feels antithetical to Tony (bookish intellectual) which I'm sure is very appealing to her. I don't think Carmella intentionally ran out on him to get what she wanted. I believe as you did it was a confluence of feelings in her head. It's easy to see why Wegler made that connection based on her actions. Carmella's very used to getting her way from Tony or using the threat of him to do so (The way she strong-armed Meadow's recommendation letter). See how quickly she defaults to it here the moment she's jilted she tells him he better watch his step. Carmella is an infinitely better person than Tony. She still lives & enjoys the benefits of being in that world while being deeply in denial about what that says about her.

#SundayRundown Sad to see Tony B immediately backslide the moment he got any real money in his hands. It felt inevitable with him constantly being around the life even without being in it. Making a hard break from everything you know is easier said than done though. Nifty bit of visual storytelling with the shot of him struggling to schlep the laundry up the steps in his fancy new shoes.

I think Tony B lost it with kim was here he is Tony doing all the work and Kim just strolls in set him off. Kung Pow coochie

#Sundayrundown Tony b is in an interesting position in the show, like Christopher he wasnt to be clean but surrounds himself with the wrong crowd. Like Tony S back in season 2 he doesnt have a life outside of the guys. And from this episode Carmella says that no matter what she does her actions are questioned cause she was married to tony, tony B's actions a questioned cause he was in the mob When he first decided he wanted to do massage therapy one of his reasons was the amount of work he already out towards it in jail. This episode he finally understood the reward for his hard work was always going to be more work and people treating him like shit. Unlike the life he could have with the mob, where hes surrounded by friends who respect him, easy money as a reward for his time in prison, and even the love of his children. They weren't enthusiastic about working in his parlour, they were really into those gameboys he bought them with illegal money though

I agree what you say about Father Phil. In the same time what is Carmela hoping to gain? She considers herself to be a devout Catholic Christian, so she knows that the Church considers marriage to be holy and basically unbreakable. She herself tried to stop Angie Bonpensiero from divorcing Pussy in Season 2 for this very reason. She knows that, because of this, the Church considers sexual relationships outside marriage to be adultery, even if you are divorced in the eyes of the state. So what does she expect to happen when she tells her priest about it? Father Phil acted like a jackass, but his opinions seems be in line with the official teachings of the Church. Then she goes to confession. Once again, as a Catholic Christian, she must know that confession is a sacred ritual intended to give absolution to those asking for forgiveness. She must know that asking for forgiveness requires actually being sorry for what you have done, and having a sincere desire not to do it anymore. It does not work in the sense that you can just go there, get an automatic “get out of jail free” card, and then continue doing whatever you were doing. Father Phil’s actions are once again aligned with the teachings of the Church. A priest cannot give you absolution for things you are not sorry for. So maybe Carmela goes to Father Phil because she knows that Father Phil is a “mob priest,” compromised by his own actions. Maybe she is hoping that this “mob priest” will continue to be "corrupt": that he will support her even though it goes against what the Church teaches?

I think this might be my least favorite episode of The Sopranos overall. For some reason, I’m completely unconvinced by Tony B’s sinking into the dark side….

#sundayrundown my sopranos theory is that we never saw who dropped the bag for tony b i think tony might have orchestrated that situation to get tony b back in the game
