#SundayRundown If I had a nickel for everytime a tv show did a 'Happy Birthday Mr President' scene that made me deeply uncomfortable I would have two nickels. Y'all remember Skyler singing to Ted?

I think Fran calling Livia “handsome” is meant as an insult. She said: "Your mother was a handsome woman. Not sexy" (unlike herself, I guess). She is trying to find out how far she can go with Tony and eventually starts to slip more and more. Later on, she says that Livia dressed like a refugee (unlike herself, I guess), and that Livia didn't know how to support a powerful man and make him feel powerful (unlike herself). And in the end I think that Tony starts to see through her: that Fran is a gold-digger, childish in a way (spending her money on luxury items that she can't really afford. She hasn't paid her rent or telephone bill, but the minute she gets extra money, she goes and buys shoes) and also cruel. She doesn't care that she slept with Livia's husband, she doesn't care that Johnny Boy stayed with her all night when Livia was in the hospital having a miscarriage, she doesn't care that Tony lost his dog (and quite casually tells him that she killed the dog the minute her son moved out). When Tony tries to tell her about his aunt's husband, who is grieving the death of his wife, Fran just stares at Tony and only reacts when the waiter comes around and brings more luxury (that Tony is paying for). But admitting that Fran truly is not a nice person would mean admitting that Johnny Boy was not a nice person either, and that Livia might not be solely responsible for the horrible things that happened in the Soprano household. It would mean admitting that Johnny Boy, the tough guy, not only took away Tony's dog and gave it to his lover's son, but also repeatedly left his children at the mercy of their cruel mother while he happily lived with his lover and her son. But admitting all of this would mean that Tony would have to stop idolizing his father, and realize that his own actions are also bad (and that many of his girlfriend are actually quite similar to Fran...) And he is not able to do that. So he decides to live in this fantasy world, where his mother was the horrible dragon who drove his brave father into the arms of this great woman who once slept with JFK.

#SundayRundown Ah, you think Skyler White singing "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" was cringe? Skyler White merely adopted the cringe. Fran Feldstein was born in it, molded by it. Another excellent episode directed by the iconic Steve Buscemi.

This episode gives many a sopranos fan PTSD. As soon as you see "In Camelot" you know that song is coming.

pointedly, the episode also featured junior coming to grips with the state of his life and the scene where he breaks down is deliberately put right before the ending scene where tony starts embellishing. tony has some of what junior doesn't but is he actually going to take the lesson that's staring him in the face? it's going to be hard for him to appreciate what he should be appreciating if he can't do what melfi suggests and start acknowledging the truth about his parents, and by extension, himself. instead he opts to keep these people in his life in the same boxes, which means little to no personal growth on his end, which might lead to similar misery down the road, which means these people continue to be cancer to society at large.

Just wanna mention the Supes connection. The actor who plays JT, Tim Daly, also voiced Clark/Superman in the animated series.

The song at the end there is an instrumental track from Linkin Park's Meteora. The name escapes me rn. Oddly placed, as usual, lol. But a great song.

#SundayRundown For at least two seasons we've seen how obsessed Junior is with his mortality. Here we see him actively seek out situations where he's confronted with it just so he can escape the misery of being locked away at home. It should come as no surprise that eventually the dam would burst. During the subsequent visit to the doctor he's the most candid we've ever seen him be about the emptiness of his life. Another great performance from Dominic Chianese.

Honestly, we're five seasons into this show. This is the first episode that genuinely made me uncomfortable to watch, and I don't understand why it's so weird.

#SundayRundown: Tony again finding himself clashing with the old school mobsters, that still think of him like the little fat kid (Johnny’s son from Jersey). We went from Richie Aprille, Feech La Mana and now Phil Leonardo. Love that Tony doesn’t take any shit from them. Which to me proves how effective he is as a boss, maintaining control of a dynamic that seems to be so volatile.

#SundayRundown Friend of Christopher from rehab also plays Superman in the animated show you guys are watching right now!

Yep! “Session” which is also on the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack, took me a minute to place it. Good choice for a jarring scene transition💥

Stan the Man

The slander against “Session” can not stand. These people have no music taste.

crazy how quick people can forgive Liva and think all the blame rests on Johnny. This show is more complex than that, and so is real life.
