That cliffhanger was vile, 😭 luckily season 2 seems to be coming soonish, based on what was shown at Anime Expo it looks like BUG Films were in production for 5 years making a larger season but split it into 2 cours and they need a little more time making the 2nd half. My estimate is maybe year or year and a half wait buts that's just a guess, also it is not confirmed but apparently the 5 year production was largely because BUG Films had trouble translating Shirahama's art style to animation since it was so detailed.

Please watch curb your enthusiasm it's just as good as it's always sunny

Meh

Bit of context you may have overlooked. Use of magic directly on the body is "forbidden" so that gold civilization probably predated the declaration that marked it forbidden. That society may actually have even been the thing that pushed them to make the law in the first place. There's also no reason to think witches weren't actually integrated into that society rather than something seperate (kinda like hateing all scientists even though it was umbrella corp that caused the zombie out break)

The studio initially planned to drop both cours together but once they started animating it they realized if they wanted to maintain the high quality (look up some manga panels to see how INCREDIBLE its drawn) expected for the show they would have to either split the two cours or delay the anime release even more so they chose the former.
