I had to look it up since it's said over and over in the live action. In the Nickeloden show "There is no war in Ba Sing Se" is only said by a Dai Li agent when brainwashing Jet, never by Joo Dee. I love NATLA S2. Way better than S1. But then again Book 2 was also way better than Book 1 so there was more to work with. Imo they picked the right things to adapt and scrapped things that might've only worked in the cartoon. All the brand new scenes like Aang getting coached by 3 earthbenders at the same time and Sokka and Katara greiving Yue and their mom is great. But the forced references to the cartoon like Sokka getting high on cactus juice was pretty bad. I have high hopes for S3 (the episode titles have been announced so you can deduce how the timeline has been changed, much like S2).

The biggest problem with this show is that it isn't balanced. Most of the audience grew up watching the original, so you can't cut important scenes that develop the characters just to make room for new ones. The live-action version is also about 50 minutes shorter overall, so there is no reason to rush it The writing is another major issue. It feels like the dialogue has been dumbed down. It's hard to understand how a 20-year-old animated show made for kids can have better dialogue than a modern live-action adaptation. I understand that this is an expensive production, and building multiple sets isn't always practical. But after seeing how successful the original series was on Netflix, you would think they would have gone all out. Instead, it feels like they held back. The cast is fine—some actors are actually quite good—but the writing and directing don't do them any favors. Too often, they end up looking worse than they really are because of the material they're given.

As a defender of NATLA - I think my biggest criticism is that they spread key points from single episodes across multiple: ex. painted lady, the chase, tales of ba sing se, etc. Im really concerned that they’re not going to pace the final season well because the third season is only 7eps from what I’ve seen

Enjoying this show! I think this show suffers from now knowing its target audience. It feels like it’s made for children with the dialogue - I mean the parts not word-to-word from the original. However, most of the people who grew up with the show - even the ones who watched it in 2020 when it resurged, are at the very least in their late teens now. And with the colors, style, and tone of this - it feels like they’re making it for adults. However the writing and censorship at PG keeps it at that TV-Y7 feel. I honestly think if this was TV-14 it would do much better because then we could go into the earth kingdom arc more in depth than what the show alluded to. This feels safer but idk still enjoying it!!

You guys are trying to like this show, it’s kind of hilarious. The characters assassination has been brutal so far. The characters grow doesn’t feel natural because of all the main scenes they removed. The actors are doing a great job with whatever they are given. I’m still gonna watch your reactions though, just to see what you think about the rest of the season.
