Katara splitting the ocean like Moses was some avatar level bending.

Khayta (Hi-tuh)

OH THANK GOD - I’m watching the NATLA reaction to ep 6 rn and needed to see some joy with the ATLA universe

Shockzz1234

Good movie, only weird thing for me was the voice acting. Felt like they didn't have any voice directors at all, it was distractingly bad (for me at least). Batista isn't even a VA and he did the best job of them all imo lol. Edit - to clarify I'm not talking about them having new voices, that's fine. I'm talking about the way they voiced the characters and their deliveries. They're all good voice actors in other projects (shoutout Jackie Gibson for reminding me that Batista has voice acted before!), but in this film it felt like they did the bare minimum at times and/or the voice director did a poor job. It especially stands out even more when the art and animation is SO expressive too.

GodUsopp

I agree with chris so much, The ATLA Ip is one of the strongest soldiers the us has, if there was a battle royale of all like ips, and we had to pick 3, atla would be in the mix with like star wars and shit

BindingofNack

Yeah the movie is a feast for the eyes but for audio not only are the new VAs not up to snuff but hearing other people's voices come out of these characters just feels unnatural.

Jackie Gibson

It was hit or miss for me, not enough to really impact my enjoyment but I get where you're coming from. Also Batista while still more known for an actor and wrestler has in fact some voice work behind him, it's his vocals for all his appearances in wrestling games, he has a character with his likeness and voice in gears 5, and he even voiced the Parakeet King in Miyazaki's The Boy and The Huron, as well as some upcoming VA projects.

Jamaal Ellison

It was a pleasure to revisit this world and reconnect with old friends. However, the voice acting was notably subpar, lacking depth and vitality. The narrative, in my estimation, felt somewhat underdeveloped and appeared to rehash themes previously explored in *Legend of Korra*. I believe that adapting the existing comics into a miniseries or a live-action television show would have been a more suitable approach. This particular story, in my view, does not possess the requisite substance for a cinematic release. While the animation is undeniably excellent, demonstrating significant dedication and investment, it alone does not sufficiently elevate the project to warrant a theatrical presentation. As previously stated, I would have preferred an adaptation of the established literary works, which could have explored compelling storylines such as Zuko's mother, the genesis of Republic City, issues of cultural appropriation, or Zuko's efforts to atone for the historical transgressions of the Fire Nation.

avatar fans are turning into star wars fan to me, the movie was like 90 mins what kind of story did fans think they were gonna get?

Jackie Gibson

#SundayRundown#Avatar. I've heard the reaction to this movie was more divided compared to the original series which is more universally loved, but going by the review sites and word of mouth and other reactors, I think the majority thought this was an amazing movie and great addition to the Avatar franchise. Which I also agree, not that this doesn't have flaws or valid criticisms but personally the voice work was fine and the shallow story or weaker themes are not enough for me to not love every second of watching this on the big screen, (Saw it in NYC) with gorgeous animation, fights and music. I got to see something I grew up with be an epic event in theaters and I think that passion is what really matters to fans like me. So exited to see what Avatar Studios does next with the new series and beyond. ❤️ Also Sonam was beautiful and Tagah was Batista.

Narutoanime16

I thought the voice acting was fine for them being older like what did you expect there not kids anymore there mid 20’s 😂

Narutoanime16

I love how much this sets up stuff for Korra

Smapdi

I really wanted to like this one. The animation was stellar, but the story was kind of eh, and the dialogue was really really bad. Like insult the audience bad. The part where the one girl with the baddies literally says to Kitara "I'm not like you, I didn't have a good life." Just absolutely no attempt to build characters. Every one says how they literally feel all the time. The original show was smarter than this. I'm still cautiously optimistic about the new show this fall, but this was just not it.

J. J.

New voices were fine, weird people wanting kid voices for 20+ year olds

Shockzz1234

You last two guys who replied missed my point completely. The point isn’t about them having new voices, I was fine with that, it’s the WAY they voiced them that I have an issue with. Everyone seems so monotone and flat in their delivery, especially when juxtaposed with the over the top, very expressive and wacky animation style. And it’s not like they’re bad voice actors, they’re good in other projects, so I can only assume they were either told to voice it that way on purpose (for some reason) or they didn’t have a voice director (or they did, and they did a poor job).

KrimzonHawka

I hope you give another great original Western Animated IP a chance in Pantheon as well someday, that one needs even more love than Avatar 😅

Khayta (Hi-tuh)

#SundayRundown - Would love to see them do avatar movies or series going backwards since there’s infinite possibilities and stakes! Since we have TLOK - we know the stakes can’t get super high if they continue with the gang since pretty much everyone lives in Korra. I would love to get a Korra movie, and one following Zuko or Toph. Even adapting The Search into a movie or Smoke and Shadow would be amazing! I hope they continue with this but give breathing room between them since we’re getting sm ATLA this year with the movie, NATLA 2, and Seven Havens.

GrayStark

Pantheon is peak

Khayta (Hi-tuh)

Micky's reactions were hilarious. Bro was mesmerized by the animation

GrayStark

It’s people like you that are the reason the entertainment industry is the way it is today. CONSUME. Netflix survives off of people like that.

Panos

Agreed. Pantheon is incredible.

J. J.

They complaining cause we didn't get in depth character arcs for 5 characters in 90 mins, it's sad that 30 year olds are sitting here nitpicking a story (you can do this with any piece of fiction as a sad and lonely adult btw), if you sat there you could pick apart everything about anything if you wanted, a part of this fanbase completely missed the point.

Zanni

#SundayRundownAvatar Adult Aang to team Avatar: “None of you understand!” But when Aang said it in the Live Action people were pissed😂🙆🏽‍♀️ “Aang wouldn’t say that” blah blah blah agh go & kick a rock😂

J. J.

Definitely gave you the feels of the original Avatar that the live action just didn't hit.

J. J.

It's almost like they could do that in.... a future Zuko movie instead of trying to fit 5 stories into 1 movie. Man people complain about everything, sad to see the fanbase grow up to be pathetic adults.

J. J.

Definitely think they can do more movies featuring different members of Team Avatar like how this one focused on Aang's guilt. There's a whole Zuko one out there just ready to be explored.

Khayta (Hi-tuh)

Yesssss! A Zuko movie isn’t a want. It’s a need. He has so much history unexplored and the possibilities are endless with that :)

GrayStark

Your weird focus on people being adults insinuates that you yourself are a child so I’m not gonna engage with this

Richard Kors

This how i found out you you guys with the Avatar reactions been here since such a cool thing to see this movie , i missed the old avatar gang

Michael Saylor

My only problem with this movie is Zuko was literally the only one that didnt pop off and look badges. Even sokka looked bad ass.

MyDude SnakePlisskin

I understand the SENTIMENT of recasting the voice actors, but I still think the original actors should have reprised their roles.

Cheesey1

really wished the gang was a bigger part of the story. Toph and Zuko barely had any lines. The story also felt a bit rushed, everything was moving too quickly for me. And i think the writers of this movie forgot that Katara can literally pull water out of the air, she can never run out of water. Also no mention of Iroh or Suki who also played big roles in ending the war??? Overall decent movie but it definitely had its flaws

Shoon

Baffling to me that people didn't like this movie or the story. All the criticism I've read sounds like straight-up larp. I think people are just starved for Avatar content and then get mad when their specific story points aren't met within 90 minutes.

Sage

Nah Chris korra was failed avatar sorry😂, the whole next series is about how she sold

Rishi Shukla

Love the emotion y'all felt while watching this. I felt the same. ATLA (and South Park) is how I found the normies so felt very nostalgic watching this with you guys.

Meh

From the moment Tagah started going mask off with his rants I was kinda expecting one of you to make MAGA/America First comparisons XD. Figured he was a villain immediately but I was initially thinking Sonam was going to be the big bad some how (glad that wasn't the case).

Rando calrissian

You couldn't be more wrong. There wasn't a single point where the voice acting felt weak

Rando calrissian

Not once did the voice acting felt lackluster or subpar to me.

Rando calrissian

You can always leave it to the comment section to ruin a show or movie. I enjoyed every second of this movie. I was so happy seeing all these characters i grew up loving back together again. But imagine my disappointment when I come to the comments and its nothing but complaining smh.

CJ Dennis

@GrayStark I'm not sure how your comment tracks, you'll have to elaborate and I'm asking sincerely 🤔.

CJ Dennis

@J.J. That's not to discredit the people that have legit critics and non-nitpicks. People's complaint probably isn't that all five characters didn't get story arcs, but rather that they need to feel like they are here for more reasons than just "they are suppose to be", and that perhaps the new voices don't help and take some getting use too. Yes they are no longer kids but they probably could have gotten away with bringing some of them back, though them wanting to cast more accurate ethnic actors is admirable 🤔.

CJ Dennis

@GreyStark How so is he contributing to the state of the entertainment industry? You'll have to further explain if you want people to get your point 🤔.

CJ Dennis

@GodUsopp To be fair if people think the story is a little by the numbers then that's a fair complaint 🤔.

CJ Dennis

Watch a spectacle this film was. It's clear as day that this should have been in theaters. The animation and action are the main standouts that keep this from being mid imo, and of course it's nice to revisit this world and see everyone again. My only two gripes with it is that: one the pacing feels uneven as the film at first moves at a nice clip with a good atmosphere, but near the second half it does feel like we are speed-running through some things sometimes. The other is that the voice acting takes some getting used too. It's like when you see a different English dub of an anime 🤔. I get their reasoning for changing them was mainly to bring in the more accurate ethnicities for the part, but I think the exception could have been made for some of the og cast to come back. The new voices for Gyatso and Roku especially don't feel like they fit those designs. Also, I get other criticisms such as: the denied being underbaked, Sokka feels more like a parody or diet version of himself, and that team avatar in general is just here because they are supposed to be and are just along for the ride. I honestly hope we get more ova so that we could focus on all the other characters, but as is this film is a 7/10 for me 🤔.

CJ Dennis

@Narutoanime16 even with their ages they still could have gotten away with bringing back some of the old cast, and the complaint isn't about them having older voices it's about how the voices were delivered 🤔.

CJ Dennis

@J.J. the complaint isn't about them having older voices it's about how the voices were delivered. Also, most of the OG cast weren't kids, and didn't put on that much of kid sounding voices lol. In addition, here Gyatso and Roku's new voices were especially distracting 🤔.

CJ Dennis

What are the criticism you felt like weren't warranted? Not arguing just asking 🤔?

Shoon

"X character didn't get enough screentime" "Aang was nerfed" "The movie is too anime" "Voice acting was bad"

Lord Zuko

#SundayRundown #Avatar The irony of Micky saying Joe Rogan is a radicalizer, while Micky’s constant political commentary is a display of his own radicalization, but on the opposite side. Can't we, for once, just enjoy a fantasy cartoon without dragging in current American politics? SMH

Avatar The Last Podcasters aka The Objective Geek

#sundayrundown full circle moment for me, I first started watching yall channel when you were reacting to Avatar, it has been quite a long journey and it's been great to see you all grow.

This was a dope movie and I would have seen it a minimum 3 times if it came to the the theater. I wish there was someway for Brian and Mike to be able to spin out completely independent so they weren't at the whims of stupid mfs at Paramount. I find no real fault with this film that isn't out balanced by something else. It's just really good. Similar to other modern animated productions like Edgerunners, Arcane, Blue-Eyed Samurai, KPop Demon Hunters, Spider-Verse etc, I will happily wait for them to get a good script and invest time and effort to make something they are proud of. On a more personal hyper-focused tip, I look at the credits for this film and get happy seeing how much of the same creative team has stayed engaged with this IP, not just Bryan and Mike, but Lauren Montgomery, Steve Ahn, Tim Hedrick, Studio Mir, and more, some who have been on it since ATLA. They worked together even in non-Avatar projects for other studios (The much slept on Voltron Legendary Defender that used to be on Netflix and is now nowhere). I just love this team and will always check out what they make.
