Sopranos - 6x8 Johnny Cakes - Group Reaction

Suraj, Navi, Chris and Pat present their review and reaction to season 6 episode 8 of The Sopranos, "Johnny Cakes," created by David Chase. In episode 8, Tony (James Gandolfini) continues to be frustrated with AJ (Robert Iler) as he refuses to mature, leading him to botch a hit on Unce Junior (Dominic Chianese). Meanwhile, Vito (Joseph R. Gannascoli) finally finds some people that accept him but pushes them away. FYI, the actor who plays Hernan - AJ's club friend - is Lucky Luciano from Boardwalk Empire.

2026-09-10 02:00 I’ll defend AJ because too many people in the fandom hate on him while glazing Tony. AJ is a mini Tony, rewatch the last scene with Tony when he comes home to the scene with AJ in the kitchen, but because AJ is seen as less masculine than Tony he gets ragged on more and Tony has used movies as a standard or justification before, remember him using Gary Cooper as an example of how Americans and men are supposed to act. The Strong Silent Type. Also, just because Meadow is in college doesn’t mean she’s not dysfunctional. She’s changed her major multiple times based on who she’s dating and uses her education to justify Tony’s crimes

Next week is one of my favorite episodes. “The Ride”. Can’t wait.

People judge AJ like he exists in a vacuum

Kinda crazy you guys still have not watched The Godfather lol

kinda knew putting off the godfather was going to affect the reaction. it was a pivotal scene though, where it's the first time in the entire show tony actually admitted out loud that the violence they engage in is wrong. in a show that's so much about self-deception, that was a rare moment of unbridled honesty during a moment of emotional vulnerability. aj never saw tony engage in any mob violence, so there was something misinterpreted in the scene suraj is referencing. that's the big contrast between tony and aj. tony was exposed to too much growing up and aj wasn't exposed to any mob violence at all. it created a different kind of damage. they already emotionally neglect him but tony over-indexing into keeping aj completely out of the loop and not being honest about the nature of his work just fed into the issues that aj was already having. we got subtle hints in the episode, aj asks carmela to wake him up, seemingly motivated, then he's laying on the couch and doesn't act. what does this remind the audience of? there was also a lot of subtle links to the idea of both positive and negative change throughout the episode that was weaved between the three main storylines.

#SundayRundown AJ is watching The Hunted (2003) directed by the great William Friedkin (The Exorcist). The film is kind of a more grounded take on the first Rambo picture. Definitely recommend giving it a watch. Three-time Emmy winner Julianna Margulies is the real estate agent. She initially got her fame with ER but I know her as the lead on the fantastic legal show The Good Wife.

King Me

This is the point where you gotta watch at least Godfather 1 to understand the growing dynamic between Tony an AJ.

SpeedyCat19

Completely ruined that scene between Tony and AJ because y'all keep procrastinating watching The Godfather smh

I don’t know what you guys plan to cover next but I definitely recommend boardwalk empire🔥 love the reactions as usual
