#SundayRundown: Suraj, I'm so glad to hear you say that you don't care about those comments of 'critics' who feel the strange need to call people out for 'empathising' with these mobsters. It's kind of weird for those people to act wilfully ignorant about the appeal of an anti-hero and how/why such a character is written in a way that is supposed to induce conflict in the audience; hate what these people represent in the manner they hurt people, but also can't stop but love/feel sad for them at times. It's LITERALLY the format of the anti-hero genre. Which was (at least in TV) pioneered by the Sopranos in such an effective way. And one of the main reasons it's praised as one of (if not THE) greatest shows of all time. I love that from the couch's reactions in general when watching this show. And it's perfectly normal and, very specifically, triggered/induced by the writers.

Stan the Man

Yeah the audio is messed up. It starts of fine but then you guys are barely audible. I hope you can fix it.

KingKt

When does The Godfather reaction drop? And did they already watch part 2?

Stan the Man

Chris and Surj acting like they figured something out when a bunch of commenters here just can’t help themselves. So all you commenters that think quoting what Bobby says to Tony last week, I hope your happy. Some of yall just can’t help spoiling the show for others.

Erik D

What is all this Mitch McConnell-misia? I won't stand for it!

The Normies

Unfortunately, we lost most of our good audio while recording this, so that is why it is not good.

The Normies

It's supposed to come out this coming Saturday, but that is subject to change. And no, we haven't.

#SundayRundown: Stage 5 is death, the death of Johnny Sack and the death of Christopher and Tony’s relationship. Even though they said “I love you” to each other in the first half of this season, their unspoken problems with each other slowly started to push them apart until they fully hated each other. Christopher still isn’t over that rumor about Adriana and Tony, and Christopher blames Tony for everything that goes wrong in his life. Tony had Christopher on a pedestal, but Christopher’s past drug use, sleeping with the real estate agent Julianna, and his movie portrayal of Tony made him completely distrust Christopher and ultimately hate him in return. The last shot with them is so sad. They were family, and now they can’t stand each other

Y'all are over doing it with the whole Godfather thing, the references are not that pronounced to feel like you're missing something if you haven’t watched it. And everything in the show that seems like a reference isn't a reference, you're just reading too much into it. This wouldn't even be an issue if Chris hadn't seen the Godfather before and forcefully trying to correlate the two.

Audio is horrendous. Basically just watching the episode with your guys facial expressions in the background

Armani 🐢

Can you not lower the audio on the show? I can sort of pick you guys up in the background. I feel like if the show was like 20-30% quieter it would be fine.

PIG

THIS is why you record the reaction TWICE! Unlike most reactors, The Normies recorded on what seems to be two devices/files, in case one gives out. If this was most reactors, we would have NO audio. Very professional! I wish all the reactors I love did that.

Armani 🐢

Audio is a lot better with AirPods.

#SundayRundown Idk if y’all remember from previous episodes but Tony once claimed that it was “common knowledge” that Little Carmine is “retarded”. Yet L.C gives one of the best speeches about the impact of being boss in the entire series.

phunkrsd

I would agree if the argument is that you 'cannot fully enjoy Sopranos if you haven't seen the Godfather' , because the references are not that deep. But they are quite a lot and it does add a fun layer when you can recognise them. What I would push back against in your reaction is the perceived amount of Godfather references: there are a lot, lol.

Armani 🐢

They stated in the very first reaction that they both know how the show ends. Not really that crazy for them to have put that together.

#SundayRundown Vincent Curatola is an amazing actor. It's a shame he never really got a chance to dig his teeth into another long running role like Johnny Sack again.

SunnydaleClassof99

#SundayRundown I don't feel like Little Carmine is a character that's come up much in discussion but I feel like you'll appreciate him more on rewatch, I know I have. At first it seems like he's a classic fail son with all his malapropisms. Don't get me wrong he definitely thinks see smarter than he is, he's not as dumb as he seems. His speech & conversation with Tony confirms that. LC knows when it's time to walk away. He's extremely wealthy, has a great family life & in general is more well adjusted than his contemporaries. He sees power for the illusion it is.

Stan the Man

I mean…they gave a “like” to the comment so knowing what happens is one thing. Thinking you know what it means is something else.

BT

Chris and Serge definitely know how the series ends. Boo! 👎 Chris’s face gave it away in the last episode when Bobby dropped the 'You probably don't even hear it coming' line. Combine that with his reaction to the shooting scene in this episode... the foreshadowing is real. I really hope I'm wrong!

Katieee120

Are they planning to fix the audio for this video?

Veya

listen i'm usually the one that points out things that they miss in these reactions, but you're overrating a bit. they said in the first episode reaction that they know the ending. and if anyone were even a little bit tapped into the cultural zeitgeist at the time of airing, they'd know what the main discourse of the finale was. i believe they were probably around high school/college when it first aired so they would've come across the main points of discussions surrounding the finale. i knew about certain details of the ending and the main debate long before i watched the show. the ending has so much thematic substance and rich detail that only people who put a lot of significance into a certain reading would feel like it's a big loss. they're almost certainly not going to catch everything on a first watch.

good catch on the crying, suraj. the last time tony cried in front of melfi was back a couple of seasons ago and it was regarding the horse. this is the first time he cried in front of her where it's not about an animal. however, it's more twisted and he comes out with more bitterness compared to the tenderness that he showed in the past. the legacy thing does apply to average people. with this show, there's more beyond the surface of what characters are immediately concerned with and what they say in the moment. tony mentions "subconscious". last week, janice was talking about the moment when she killed ritchie but hinted at something else. think about one of the central through-lines that started in the first episode on why tony went to therapy in the first place. and on that note: melfi isn't just here for the tea. remember a couple of episodes back, where she helped tony reach a more balanced approach to disciplining aj. it's been stated here multiple times before, that her helping tony get better, as well as the idea of change, has multiple vectors. chris mentions cancer being a common plot point at the time, but it's far more ingrained in this show as a motif. consider what tony himself represents. think about the general theme of slow decline that's been explored in the show outside of cancer. again, think back to the very first episode of the series.

I’m not sure i know how I’m suppose to respond to this. Hmm. I mean Obviously I can’t tell you why I don’t feel Im “overreacting” without spoiling it myself. Ok here’s what I’ll do. **So don’t read any further if anyone reading this doesn’t want to have anything potentially spoiled. I’m still going to try to remain as generic as I can be** Obviously some people who have never seen the show will know what the ending is. It’s fairly well known. I’ve watched enough of these Sopranos reactions from various reactors & I think Surj & Chris got clued in to part of the key to understanding the ending. That’s the difference. the particular comment was even “liked” by the channel. Then the very next sopranos reaction the two normies who know the ending are both basically winking at each other everytime a reference to understanding the ending is made. I’ve seen maybe different 5 channels react to this show. And I think each of them had at least one person who knew what the ending was but didn’t know what it meant. This is the first time that any channel has hinted of a deeper understanding and it just so happens to be the one where there were people clueing them in. So that’s my issue. Two of the four reactors will not experience the full context of the ending. They’ll go in pretty much understanding some of it, more or less, and I think that’s because commenters here couldn’t help themselves. They had to highlight seemingly arbitrary lines of dialogue that just so happen to play into the ending. Why do that? Anyways, I don’t think it’s “overreacting” to highlight this or be a little annoyed at commenters who do these types of things. Overreacting, imo, would be to start calling people names and get really angry. But I definitely don’t think being mildly annoyed is overreacting.
