Episode 47 is easily top 5 episodes for me, it’s so amazingly directed and both the use and absence of music/sound is so powerful!! It’s so tragic to me that Kenny spent most of his life chasing a dream of becoming compassionate and never realized he already had it in him, especially when he took care of Levi. He’s my favorite side character, RIP.

Remember back when they had Eren tied up, Rod and Historia, both of royal blood, touched him and that triggered memories. Historia remembered her half-sister always caring for her, and Eren remembered his father injecting him to become a Titan, then eating his father. Eren also saw his dad's earlier memories of killing Rod's wife and children. I like what the author Isayama did with Kenny. Usually in this type of media the "bad guy" or antagonist is looking for more control, more influence, more power. If you go back you see Kenny talking about his "dream" since the first episode of this season, and throughout. Here, we find out he wants to know what it feels like, to see the world like his friend Uri, like the "kings" before and after him. To have compassion, to see and operate in the world in such a way, instead of the violent way Kenny used to achieve his ends all his life. It was that compassion, Uri asking forgiveness and bowing down, that rattled Kenny and made him change course. And yep, extremely twisted legacy of inheritance, of royal hierarchy, of a cannibalistic order of family succession. Not the nepotism with which you wanna be involved. 😂
