Tom knows what's up, it's about character, the intricacies of the human mind and soul and heart, it's about the development and psychological advancement and devolution, it's about deconstruction and regeneration of the psyche. The rest think it's about "phew phew phew" finger gunning and idolizing degenerate antagonists and anti-heroes. The infamous episode is actually crucial to finally understanding certain psychological traits that will bear out later on.
