Angelica Albanese

This was definitely an interesting movie. It makes me sad though, that a lot of the issues the film addresses are still prevalent situations and themes we're still trying to change/address in our own government. If I'd seen this movie when it'd released in 2005, and at 12 years old I would've thought something like that could never happen in my life time. Now, I'm not so sure.

My favorite film of all time, I watched it as a teen and it cemented my political beliefs and led me to my career in abolitionist political organizing. I wanna break down two of my favorite scenes The first is V’s speech after breaking into the TV station. He talks about how the nation accepted their fascist government out of fear of the unknown. He says he understands why people did it, and while some are most responsible, we ALL play a part in its descent. We see this In real life too, I’m an American so I will base on our politics however this applies to every political system across the globe. Republican voters choose who they choose knowing the policies will harm immigrants, the LGBTQ, the rural and impoverished. Democrat voters choose who they choose knowing they will slaughter Palestinians, siphon resource rights across the globe, suppress non two party system electoral candidates, etc. The VAST majority of people abide by atrocities to maintain their own comfort. This isn’t to make people feel ashamed, but it helps us see how things got to where they are today, how every few years we have slid further and further toward our fascist reality The second is the domino scene. V spent SO long planning all of this revolution. He checked every box and did all the research and preparation, yet a single domino refused to fall. That was the man V, that was the individual itself. The beginning monologue of the film talks about the Man vs the Idea. Men aren’t bulletproof, Men aren’t infallible. Every revolution on earth has ultimately failed because every revolution on earth has done the same as V, they centered individuals above the movement. You cannot have a true change for collective humanity when collective humanity does not lead the charge. V tried to shed his humanity and become the idea itself, but Evey reminded him how impossible that is. His revolution was still about him. As V later said, the world where he belongs died that final night. It isn’t V who decides to finish things, it’s Evey and the revolutionaries in the streets. Finally it ends showing us the truth behind V’s mask. This revolution only succeed because it was everybody’s revolution. The collective working class over centuries fought and died for a new reality and when all became one, they succeeded. As the masked V army they removed their masks showing Guy Fawkes, the murdered girl, Daddy Dietrich, and all others killed across time for this goal. Revolution isn’t abandoning individuality, it’s individuals forming a collective for change. We don’t know what happens next. Every revolution on earth that has won their initial battle has eventually succumbed to the same corruption they revolted from, every revolutionary system eventually devolved into the same “individual first” hierarchy. I always watch this and am inspired for our future, we as humanity have endured so much yet we are still here. I believe and fight for a day we can be free from the limits of our Social Class. I see more class consciousness today than the world has shown in a century and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. The workers of the world create everything there is, it’s our turn to control what happens to the fruits of our labor. The ruling class only rules with our consent Thanks for watching this Tom!

Extremists vs Extremists. That was extreme.

It’s an extreme world, those in the middle simply aid those in power.

Totally tubular, rad and swag.

Edit: Star Wars too!! I upgraded just for this lol. Now it appears I’ll be watching tom react to movies all day! I had no idea you did movies, I thought you only had a couple movies total. Seriously though, you HAVE to watch the marvel series in order. It’s not heavy on mental health or anything but it has its moments, and I would guarantee my sanity you’d enjoy it greatly. (If you’ve never seen them of course lol)

Was this the first time you’ve seen this movie?
