Yusss this is my favorite episode in this season :D

Jesse James

If anything this episode, for Dexter, is about changing habits and habits are hard to change when ingrained. :|

Astor and Cody would just complicate things. kids take up so much of your time and he wouldnt be able to juggle all that and its just trimming the fat from a writing perspective. and honestly probably somewhat realistic? Dexter was in their lives for maybe 4 years at most? i would think in this situation it would be the common thing that the kids go stay with the grand parents. which we know was the case before. and like in terms of whos watching harrison right now they probably would have some arrangement anyway for him to spend time with the grand parents as well so he can see his siblings as they actually are connected while Dexter and Ritas kids connection was kinda superficial. like he did care for them and like we saw when Astor showed up in season 5 he was still there for her when she needed it. and as far as Harry raising Dexter to be this way being bad parenting... i mean hes a dad from the 70s-80s this story was obviously more influenced by the older FBI behavioral analysis and however the understanding of psychological issues back then was, as its always evolving. Like all the stuff i went through in the 80s being deemed a bad/problem child because being on the spectrum, having aspergers, meant my brain didnt work like other kids so i needed to be handled different. well its much easier to just kick the kid out of school which then leads to being hit by a parent who also didnt understand a kid on the spectrum needs to be handled different. though the book dexter is based on was written in 2004 its probably still using the old FBI data as a foundation. perhaps the show did a disservice by now showing all of Dexters childhood actions that lead Harry to see this a problem that cant be fixed. we never got to see Dexters mass animal grave though Harry mentions there being a lot of bones. obviously theres limited screen time so we have to kinda fill in the blanks that Harry may have seen more and tried more ways to help Dexter than we saw before he drew the conclusion that there was no fixing him? At least he tried to raise Dexter in a way that he thought was best for him. As flawed as that was. I feel my dad wanted a family because it was what society expected of a person. you graduate school, you get married, you have kids. he never liked kids. his way of teaching a child was if they do something wrong you hit them. then they learn to not do that thing again. if one of those kids starts taking stuff apart to see how they work out of curiosity? maybe try nurturing that curiosity? nah... kids being destructive. hit them more so they dont break stuff again. he thinks he was a supportive father because he put a roof over our heads, made sure we had food on the table, had a "stable home" where i spent my whole youth hoping he would leave my mom (or just die) just to find out he had fallen out of lover with her 20 years before finally getting divorced but he stayed together so the kids didnt grow up in a broken home... how ironic. i think that was more a lie to save face, based off the timing he waiting till his parents and my moms parents were dead. no one left to disappoint. safe to cut ties. but yea... so all that to say Harrys way of raising Dexter may have been misguided, flawed, seemingly neglectful. But it shows Harry cared enough to try and teach Dexter what he thought he needed to know to survive in the world. Before that training Dexter was already killing animals and working his way up to his first human kills. So if it were my dad in Harrys place? Dexter would have been ignored and started killing people and been executed a long time ago because he would know how to cover his tracks, wouldnt have a code.

"Alright louis let me go check the scores on your laptop" 🤣that was gold

Rob

Deb's gonna ruin that table sitting that hot pot of spaghetti sauce directly on it.

Amy J

Oh my god I thought I was the only one thinking that 🤣🤣

Laguerta is in full bloodhound mode now 😳 and Dexter has NO idea... I despite Louis, I really hope he gets the message this time 😂

Amy J

I don't think Dexter did set up the call with Deb - he drugged her and she was very out of it still, he could have easily carried on and finished the job but he thought of the promise he made to her, he really does care, and he really does want to change..most of the time..just like an addict!

Reaction Therapy

It leaves a lot of questions! But that’s why it’s such an amazing show!👍

What does Quinn really know at this point? Dexter was throwing some bags in the water with Lumen. His Dexter was Kyle Butler theory was not confirmed. He doesn’t know anything. LaGuerta is the problem. He’s not going to harm Deb. She’s his sister. He loves his sister. This season is weird, spicy and surprising.

Elliot

Maybe if Dexter starts chewing gum, or joins a chess club, he might lose the urge. Seriously though, I cant imagine there is anything he can replace the urge with now.

Astor and Cody live with the grandparents now in a different state and visit Dexter in the holidays. So they effectively wrote them out of the show until convenient, or in Dexters case inconvenient.

The insane heat wave in Europe that made everyone seek shelter all weekend, has given me the time to catch up on Dexter 🥳 Now getting into my favourite Dexter season 😄🥳

They're still in Florida, just a few hours north.
