Ceylen

Merle becomes alot more tolerable in this season because of daryl and the group. I really wonder how he would have turned out if he never got split up from the group when Rick joined them in S1.

Elena

I feel for daryl, there is this saying in the walking dead community "when daryl cries, we all cry"

This has to be up there with one of the best written episodes on TWD. What happened with Merle was so sad, but what a way to end a brilliantly written character, and talk about leaving you wanting more. I wish we got to see that continued development with Merle, but they truly gave him an end that was most befitting of his character, and they did it while his character was at his peak. Then the scene with Rick narrorated by Hershal's scripture reading, all of it was just pefect from beginning to end.

Malachi Pritchard

Merle really was just a traumatized kid in an adult body

Angelica Albanese

I dislike Merle as a character, but I do wonder how different things would've gone if he'd been given a longer period of time to redeem himself to the group and to Daryl, I'm glad he let Michonne go. Poor Daryl, Norman's acting in that scene is so tragically well-done. The rage, frustration, and grief Daryl felt hits you so deeply.

Korivex

The fact that Merle knew exactly how many men he killed (16) shows that it did weigh on him. If it was easy.... he wouldn't have kept track like that. I think Merle was a tiny bit like Daryl on the inside but his shell or wall.... his guard was way more hardened. I would have liked to see more of him.

daryl was out of line for saying there needs to be some forgiveness. YOU might be more lenient with merle bc its your brother but you can't tell other people how to feel or how to heal. and i love rick but i was also conflicted but he HAD to consider it. he has a kid and a baby plus hershel only has 1 leg. so leaving isn't the best option bc that puts everyone at risk especially judith. i, like merle, didn't think he would actually do it bc that's not rick he isn't that person. you saying it's out of character is facts bc it is. ricks not that guy. also glenn asking hershel for his blessing is a small moment but also very poignant. very sweet and touching while we gotta deal with all this mess in the background. even his "proposing" to maggie. like yes it isn't some grand gesture but when you know you know. maggie was cool with it so it works for them. i don't think merle is evil, but he is a terrible person. he's a product of his environment and he could have chose to be different but he didn't. he's had moments of clarity but he buried it very quickly. he chose the comfort of familiarity no matter how harmful it is to himself and others over the uncomfortable feeling of growth. at least he took some guys out with him.

Anthony

Can’t handle Tom crying yall. The last words Daryl ever said to Merle were “I just want my brother back”, you know that has to hurt. The Governor is so evil for having Daryl put Merle down.

ammogreed

The Dixon brothers, shout out to the acting and the writing. Peak.

Lab

Yeah so I’m crying and now my head hurts

Edward

Cannot wait for conquest

Skyler

Thanks for the 3 uploads today Tom! This show can weigh heavy on your mind & heart, especially if you find yourself as invested as you or other die-hard fans of TWD. You are doing amazing handling the constant feelings of despair that this show purposely does. TWD is VERY good at getting your hopes up, getting you close to characters & their story to then rip your heart out, then stomp on it lol. Losing Merle is one thing, it is sad, BUT DARYL CRYING? That made everyone cry :(

Sherry Bandito

Thanks as always.. when daryl cries we all cry.. hard to believe I’m saying this, but R.I.P. merle lol

Emoduckky

Probably wouldn't have been in the show anymore. He talked about how he and Daryl were planning to rob the camp at one point and get out of there.

Zak Lewis

You can always cry on my shoulder doc. I'll cry with you.

Zak Lewis

we all wear our masks

Fatal N Felony

re-watching this now i really hate how they lure the walkers away from parts of the fence when they can just spear and kill them instead through the fence wire lol

Daniel Perkey

None of what Merle has done is excusable but I think him freeing Michonne and him trying to take out the the Governor and his men earned his spot in the group.

Reaction Therapy

Daryl-I agree, he doesn’t realize other people don’t have to feel the way you want them to just because you want them to…they were traumatized and abused and terrorized by Merle and I wouldn’t have wanted him there. Merle-what an amazing tribute to him and his character in spite of what he did..almost made him human and kind hearted in his own way Rick-just a weird moment of falling out of character with debating michonne, she has done nothing but help them

Amy J

The loss of Merle is a surprisingly traumatic one 😭 I always had a soft spot for him, never understood why but this season vindicated my feelings and then smashed those feelings into the concrete 😭 you're absolutely right that the governor did that deliberately - he knew Daryl would follow his brother 😭

Thia

I love this season but this was just bad writing imo. They tried to telegraph it by having Rick keep Michonne at a distance from the group and acting suspicious of her but I found it ridiculously out of Rick’s character. He would never ever under any circumstances even consider handing over a woman to be raped and murdered by the Governor. He knows what almost happened to Maggie remember. Bad writing.

Sarah Thompson

Fun fact: Michael Rooker (Merle’s actor) kept asking if he could jump out of the car but the executives told him no. Since this was his last scene he did it anyway lol. Pissed off a lot of people, very Merle of him🤣

Jesse James

Many adults in real life are just that. Some psychologists refer to narcissists as over-grown kids.

Jesse James

When Tom cries I tear up... I guess it's a proxy feeling.

retromintman_0

I remember when this episode first broadcasted. I was 17, a junior in high-school. First time I can ever recall shedding tears watching a movie/TV show. I was broken. I was a huge Merle fan

Zumanji

RIP Merle…Echoing what everyone else said; awesomely written episode, great final char arc for Merle, I always loved Norman reedus as an actor but his acting in this episode was epic. I swear I felt all the stages of grief: denial, guilt, pleading, then the anger & acceptance. The angry stage of Daryl’s grief had so much going on, the anger that he just got Merle back & now he’s gone for good, also though the anger for every abuse that Daryl suffered from his family before the fall & anger at the governor for, well everything since they took Maggie & Glenn. Edit: most of us were crying with you tom 😭 also a word of advice: never state “I don’t know how things could get worse” 😅 The thing is that, in the beautifully twisted mind of Robert Kirkman (the creator), he is always asking himself the same question & unfortunately for our chars Kirkman’s mind always delivers on that question 😂

Harley

What a redemption arc for Merle, wish we could have seen where his character could have gone. Going to be rough for Daryl.

Thia

It’s very sad!

cayden

Just a note, I'm pretty sure when Merle said "I ain't begging you" before he died, he was talking to God like he did on the roof top in season 1 and not the governor like some people may think

GingerBread

I have grown to like Merle watching this alongside you. kinda sad to see him go now :(

DOGFACE

It's so sad that the last words Daryl had for Merle were "I just want my brother back". Merle pushed him away.

Djp

IDK WHYYY but i "like" merles dick head racist cunt ass I like him FARRRR FAR more of a problem character then shane

Djp

Daryl and his respect for Michonne asking if she killed him XD YES respect.

David Guerrero

Now I want Tom to watch Guardians of the Galaxy just for that "one" arc

Sussie

😭

Gigi

I think Merle did what he did to give them a chance. Michonne let him know Daryl had a family that loves him and to Merle it was self sacrifice for the good , he knew Daryl would be okay and Michonne was right , Merle knew this

Rick Angel

tom asking what can be worst is honestly funny, love your reactions.

SixFeetUnderKai

Michael Rooker, who played Merle, said that he was asked his favorite food prior to the scene. He made the connection that because he was chowing down on meat essentially in the scene, that he wanted brisket. He went on to talk about how the extra in the scene was laughing and saying "That tickles!" 🤣 Our boy is munching on brisket in that scene.

PapaCardi

I met Michael Rooker who plays Merle at a comic con. He's the sweetest guy ever and a much underrated actor.

PapaCardi

I love how as soon as something goes wrong, Tom is like: "It's done. It's over. They dead." 😂

Amos Smith

unfortunately, rick’s decision initially had nothing to do with michonne. he was thinking about his family, the people at the prison. regardless of what michonne has done for them, rick has always been willing to anything for his family.

Dee D

Yep! 😭😭😭😭 #teamdaryl

Amos Smith

oh tom… this is NOT the worst that can happen 😭😭

Rina Meyers

OK truth be known, I joined patreon for that chair dancing Tom!!! LOL

Rina Meyers

Isnt it funny how we hate Merle, but in this episode we start to soften and then it hurts us to see what happens to him.

Manuelz

Catching up on these walking dead videos since resubscribing to the Patreon and man I remember hating Merle for so long but this episode while to me it didn’t forgive him for what he did to Glenn and Maggie it showed that if given more time he possibly could’ve changed for the better while keeping all that tough energy. The Governor knew exactly what he was doing when shooting him and it makes me sad everytime for Daryl.

Tina Johnson

When Daryl cries… we all cry!

Mel

I hope just once in my life someone can be as hype for me as Tom is for the intro music

Fini Reus

I feel so bad for Daryl. One of the few I genuinely attached to since Season 1. Seeing him cry is like watching a puppy get kicked, it's horrible to the heart. Loving your reaction to this series, nonetheless
