Fatal N Felony

right away you can tell who had the real obsession when bear just went along with all the crazy shit just to be with her lol also a weekly movie would be amazing and would be much appreciated.

This is a whole different movie when you realize that it's not about HER obsession. It's about HIS obsession. Nikki's not there anymore. Just the version of Nikki he created. It puts his speech at the beginning in a whole new context. He puts up with everything, he doesn't want to cancel it...he wants to change it so he can keep a version of her that he can enjoy, he ignores everything so he can keep her.

Just finished watching your reaction. Great insight as usual. Really enjoyed that. And I really hope you go to 4 movies a month. That would be awesome and great for the channel.

Its a shame we never found out whether she liked Bear or not. He was friend zoned early on and we never did find out if she wanted more than that.

Iron Lung next! It's a slow burn but I think you'll like it!

You’re absolutely right about the end of the movie. When he’s in the bathroom, you can hear the stick snap, where she wishes that he loved her more than anyone.

I think for a lot of the movie you were watching this through a lens of being a therapist and watching two regular people enter a toxic relationship. The movie isn’t normal circumstances. Bear made a wish and it came true. The wish was “I wish Nikki loved me more than anyone in the world.” The second it came true, that also meant she didn’t even love herself anymore. That’s why she stayed in one spot the entire day, frozen, peeing herself, etc. because the wish made her own needs cease to exist. She now only exists to satisfy bear and HIS needs. She’s a prisoner in her own body for Bear to use as he pleases. If you remember what Nikki was like before, this was clearly not her the entire relationship. And what’s even more disturbing, is that Bear realizes that it’s his wish making her act this way VERY early on in the film. The restaurant scene is when he asks her “do you love me more than anyone else in the world?” Aka his wish, verbatim, and she confirms it. She admits that her dad doesn’t have cancer and he knows now that she’s only saying and doing these things because her entire existence now revolves around doing whatever it takes to be with him. After this revelation that it was truly THE WISH, he shrugs and says “doesn’t matter to me.” Then he goes home and has sex with her anyway. Which, at this point, he’s knowingly assaulting her because he’s just gotten confirmation that the only reason this is happening is because he’s wished for it. She’s making all the “right” noises, but her dead-eyed look wasn’t her simply being crazy…it’s because the real Nikki literally was not there and unable to consent. That’s why in that “sex” scene, he has his pants halfway on. She has moments where she snaps back to herself, like the first time they were kissing in his room and she freaked out. He wants the option to pull his pants up quickly in case she has one of those moments where the real Nikki comes through and realizes her body is doing something against her will. He never cares about what she might be going through; being stripped of all autonomy, harming herself when she has moments of clarity. Those moments are her literally trying to fight back and break free, yet he’s not concerned for her wellbeing at all. He hates that she malfunctions in public and embarrasses him. I think you gave a him a little too much credit, this being your first time watch, he doesn’t feel guilt when she’s begging him to kill her, he walks away already knowing that it’s never been her. When she tries to tell him, “she’s sleeping, it’s (the real) me,” his immediate response is to try to gaslight her by saying “you are you, Nikki.” Then he makes this about his feelings, not caring that she’s suffering. I know this movie is definitely a LOT to handle, but I think it’s worth watching a second time with going into it from the beginning with the mindset of being in Nikki’s shoes. Having someone make a wish that you loved them and taking your choices and bodily autonomy away from you. And every step of the way he doesn’t try to help her or release her until it starts to affect HIM. That’s the true horror of the film.

It is about her obsession too though, the movie is mainly about unhealthy abusive relationships so that’s the main theme, ofc there’s the literal story where he’s the villain but yeah

Lil j

Honestly I think she did at least a little

Lil j

The main theme is about abusive relationships though which IS the whole point of the movie, your thinking of the actual literal story that’s happening as the viewer.

I never felt sorry for Bear. He's selfish and cruel and the real villain of the story. He's forcing Nikki into a relationship, into sex without her consent. He's a rapist. Wish- Nikki would never be helped with treatment, but the real Nikki definitely needs it after what she's been through.
