So he didn’t forget about astor and cody?!?

Cristina Boanta

I must admit, your strong reaction to this episode was a bit surprising to me (which is totally okay!). I understand that a lot of people found this subplot disappointing or repulsive, but I never saw it that way. As you might know by now, Deb is an incredibly flawed person with a lot of trauma. In Season 6, she's in an extremely vulnerable position, and that therapist basically manipulates her into believing she's in love with Dexter. It's very easy to influence someone into believing something crazy and irrational when they're at rock bottom - which is exactly what happens to Deb. And yes, I agree that the therapist is nuts. The normal course of action would probably have been helping Deb understand that she has attachment issues stemming from her childhood. And that's probably where her infatuation with Dexter comes from…being ignored by her father figure as a child. There's nothing wrong with having any kind of feelings, regardless of how messed up they are (including inappropriate feelings for a sibling), because feelings are just that: feelings. What matters is whether we act on them or not. And how we work through them, obviously (this kind of thing needs to be addressed in therapy). For instance, there's a huge difference between having an intrusive thought telling you to jump in front of a bus vs actually doing it. The therapist should have explained that to Deb instead of encouraging her to confess her feelings to Dexter.

Unfortunately, what the therapist ended up doing instead was tell Deb to jump in front of the bus instead of explaining to her that it's just an intrusive thought and handing her the tools to address it (I feel like this analogy makes sense). Now, I personally don't necessarily think it's bad writing. I think it aligns with Deb's character, considering the circumstances she was in at the time. And while I don't think confessing to Dexter was the right thing to do, again, I think it makes sense for Deb. She's always been impulsive, and she has a history of making terrible choices whenever she's overwhelmed or emotional. It's just who she is. Ironically, I think her acting in this scene is one of Jennifer's strongest performances in the entire series. She goes through so many states - jealousy, grief, confusion, shame, and ultimately regret over what she just did. And if there's anyone who can absolutely nail a crying scene, it's definitely Deb, lol (and that's just my opinion - I know you might not agree with me, haha).
I won't ramble on about this any further because I don't want to spoil anything. But part of me thinks you'll eventually be satisfied with how this subplot is handled later on. Definitely don't give up on Dexter. It's a show with plenty of highs and lows, but it's ultimately an excellent series overall.

When he pointed out the Calendar I thought it was to make her turn around so he could switch the plates 😂

In season 5 (2010) Astor showed up and they said she was 12. Now in season 7 (2012) would she be 14? Maybe?

Adrian

This is when I checked out on this show the fall of such a great show. I don't know why they took this route but the way they set it and built on it made no sense and just left a bad taste in my mouth :/ Love this show still though

I think Deb would have tried to help Dexter as his sister anyway, knowing how their dad had led him down this path, without the ridiculous love angle.

Reaction Therapy

I appreciate everything you said, it helps me understand things more, especially with your insight👍 My biggest issue is that Deb has NEVER mentioned or eluded to “feelings” for Dexter this entire series…and her personality would typically be repulsed by this…that’s why I thought it was bad writing. I did think it was a great scene with how she was confronting him outside, BUT it was odd what they were talking about with the kids inside and anyone else outside that could hear. But I’m gonna keep it up👍

I don't understand why Dexter didn't just leave when he saw the other hit man. He should know by know that "I have to kill him myself" doesn't work. He should have given that guy the chance to kill him and if he fails, then he could

Ghost Mom

The actor who plays Isaac has since passed away, which is a shame because he was a wonderful actor. He's the highlight of this season for me and the scene between him and Dexter in the gay bar is satisfying.

I really didn't appreciate her acting enough the first time I watched it. I remember being vaguely annoyed by her character before I did my first rewatch a few years ago. Then I watched again and WOW. She is amazing

Charles Miller

The interaction between Isaak and Dexter at the end really brought me back into the show. I had quit watching up to this point, but that scene really pull it back from a place I didn't think it could. That whole speech about love, and revealing Vikor was his lover. Like when Dexter said Victor got what he deserved and how Rita was different. But it ties directly into Hannah and Debra asking Dexter to kill her. Since Hannah is Dexter's Vikor.

Cristina Boanta

Here's the thing, I don't believe she is actually "in love" with him. She is misled by her therapist to believe that she is, that's all. I don't know about being repulsed, but she is clearly very conflicted about it (she literally loses her shit in the scene where she confesses). Now, about Deb's previous feelings until season 6...it's true that she never says anything to indicate that she's in love. However, they DO have a weird relationship (sort of). Their boundaries are zero, and they are very codependent (especially Deb). She has no social life and no family left, so she channels all her energy and attention on Dexter because he's all she's got left. I think it's normal to be confused about your feelings or even mistake them for something else when you're in a situation like Deb's. Dexter is the only man in her life that truly loves her, cares about her and constantly shows up for her. I'm not saying this behavior isn't normal sibling love, but I can see why a person with severe attachment issues like Deb would think it's something else. As for them talking outside, I agree. It's a bit weird talking about all these topics in a place where you could be heard by someone. It's quite an oversight.

Im sorry you had to witness the writting of this brother love shiii

Ages of the kids: I think Astor is 14 because they said Cody was 12 earlier in the episode, and they’re 2 years apart. Harrison is 3 this season

Ghost Mom

He died at the age of 58 while filming a movie in italy in 2023. His family never disclosed cause of death as far as I've been able to tell. He also had just filmed season 1 of a star wars series called Ashoka and i believe they needed to recast the part. he played villains in most shows he did, as he was quite good at it.

Jesse James

The show's way of letting Ray Stevenson (Isaac) some comic dialogue. haha

Kadi

I, like many others, agree with you about Deb being in love with Dexter. Within the show, I blame it on the therapist. Otherwise I don’t know how the writers ended up there. As for LaGuerta, I don’t see how anything Quinn said to her is relevant. He thought Dexter was responsible for Rita’s death and was Kyle Butler . He produced no evidence for his theory and has made several bad work decisions since then. Since Doakes death, she has seen Dexter go through getting married, having a baby and losing his wife. Before that, she and Dexter were the only ones who knew about Jimmy Smit’s character murdering her friend. I think it makes sense that a specific piece of evidence linked to Dexter would cut through all those memories of who she thought he was and take her back to what Doakes said about Dexter.

Great reaction ! Season 8 is better ! And you will enjoy the post series !

Honestly I feel like Deb should've tried pot sooner 🤣 I just noticed the poster behind you 🥹🥹🥹

i know the audio doesn't reflect it very well but i have spent many a night at beach motels and beach houses and unless it's low tide or the waters are extremely calm no one would be able to hear them. not even inside the house, especially if the door is closed. which is actually cause for concern because if the kids called out for them there'd be no chance they'd hear them.

james AARON smith

So what it comes down to is Asters life has really gone to POT LOL 😆

James Parkes

I think a big point of the show is that Dexter doesn't know what he's doing and isn't in control. The code is a facade. He makes excuses constantly. He does stupid thing because he wants to. He is a monster that hurts everyone around him.

The problem with the last 2 seasons was that no matter if realistic and fitting or not it has to be cool and epic
