With the old folks home walkers I think it's just that walkers don't really feel pain. So instead of not being able to walk around from bad knees or something so it's just fine for them.

Fender Fox

Old people Walkers with WALKERS 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Fender Fox

It's crazy how many children you DON'T SEE as walkers, thinking there should be way more walker children instead of adults as walkers, maybe? Just a thought

Juhoe

I really love what this episode does with the governor, i feel like he was subconsciously trying to find his old self before Woodbury. trying to see if he can still live without the power. power is one of the most addicting drugs

Dashed

Brian was the name on the wall at the start of the episode that the governor saw and he just took the name as an alias

Sarah Thompson

He got the name Brian Heriot from the barn at 4:13

David Guerrero

Keep in mind we know who Brain is and they don't or have seen the evil that some people have become. They kind of been "sheltered" from all of it.

i don’t like this episode although it was interesting to see other people and how they’re surviving. i hate the governor or phillip. no tom you have every right to be negative about him. he is a psychopath and mentally insane. he’s murdered so many innocent people and put other people’s lives at risk. he is sick in the head. i have never felt bad for him or had any sympathy towards him. i feel bad for the people that cross his path bc they either end up dead or manipulated by him. all he does is lie smh what sucks is it’s always the evil ones that seem to survive but i guess thats why they do. lily is extremely naive. her sisters behavior was right. you don’t know this man so to be so trusting and open to a stranger, especially a man, is weird to me. like girl you got a daughter. you gotta be smart. sleeping with him after barely knowing him is WILD and in front of her kid and sister?! she’s gross af for that at least go outside. i can’t believe they just left with him. they had a nice set up so why risk it?

Vamwolf 77

Clearly someone loved Brian Heriot; looking at the messages they left it seems like they came back over and over, just hoping to see some sign of him. I think that might be why Brian chose that particular name, because deep down he wishes he was loved and missed.

Gracie's Revenge

Lilly and Tara, they are very naive to the new world. They were literally holed up in that apartment with their dad the whole dang time lol. They haven't learned how bad it is. And ya, lets just say that Lilly is lucky that the Gov in the show isn't the same creep he is in the comic becuz in the comic he is actually a lot worse (if you can imagine). And, I really hate to give the Gov credit, but he did try to keep his distance, he didn't want to engage with them, and he did actually try to leave. And he does care about the daughter because of how he failed his own daughter Penny, and wants to protect Megan and the 2 women. So there's that. I don't believe he ever wants to hurt them. Oh and the Governor got the name Brian Heriot because before he entered Tara and Lilly's town, he saw that name written a few times on a wall. He just assumed the identity and wanted to, at least at this point, distance himself from everything he was and had back in Woodbury. He may even just be waiting to die, or feeling like that lonely awful life is his pennance.

Korivex

Brian Harriot is the name on the building that the Governor was looking at in the first scene. So, he either just took the name for his own... OR it is possible that it really was his real name and he was heading home until he seen the messages on that building telling him not to. It isn't clear. Lily and Tara are naive and haven't experienced this world beyond their apartment so they don't understand how dangerous people can be now. Even so, I wouldn't leave my kid with a stranger even in this world... so that was crazy to me as well.

PJ H

My (dark) theory is that because they are smaller they tend to get eaten entirely unless they get bit and get away then turn which is heavily implied with Sofia. I mean we've seen adults be practically nothing left so I don't think it's a far stretch.

Fender Fox

Very true, I'm on my second watch of this show and I've only seen like 5 kid walkers 😆 so it just made me wonder for a min

Mason Miller

Im guessing it’s because most parents probably don’t want their children looking like an undead rotting corpse.

Sherry Bandito

Thanks again. Can’t wait for the next

WeirdAutumn

"she reminds of Maggie" I believe the actor that played Lilly (older sister) did originally auditioned for Maggie. She didn't get the role but showrunner still wanted to use her

Vamwolf 77

We never called them "old-folks homes" unless you're being deliberately rude. They've always been "nursing homes." A "retirement community" is a small apartment complex for older or disabled people who can still mostly take care of themselves. They have home health nurses and social workers on staff but mostly the residents are left to live as they wish. You don't go into a nursing home until you're not capable of individual living at all. Just a random language lesson from a Tx panhandle resident who loves language.

Josie

You're 100% right. Don't apologize. That is grooming!!! And her mom is a total idiot. I would never, EVER leave my child with a total stranger. Are you kidding me?!?!?!

Artemis Clyde

It’s also possible that the elderly walkers simply don’t feel pain which is a huge factor in loss of mobility

Artemis Clyde

Tom, you could never be too hard on the governor

Andrew R

The creators talk about not wanting to cross that line too often.

Andrew R

I usually skip reactions from 4X1 and come back..... later. The Governor arc has never been my favorite. The show really picks up though

Amy J

Power corrupts, I think "Brian" here is trying for a redemption arc, I wonder if it is his genuine self or just a facade... he really does seem to care for the girl though, he didn't need to risk what he did to get that game board or those oxygen tanks 🤷‍♀️ I always appreciate seeing different sides of the same character

Jesse James

There have been scenes in this show where just the head is growling without a body which goes along with having to shoot/stab the head to "kill" them. I really wish the showrunners and comic makers made the virus or whatever more clear but I also get that they intended for us to focus on the people who are alive and at each other.

Gracie's Revenge

He wasn't trying to groom Megan, though. He was just being nice to her because he did love being a father, and really loved his daughter so he has a soft spot in his heart for the girl. But ya Lilly's a total naive dumbass to leave her child alone with a literal stranger, especially in that world. Goes to show how un-exposed they have been to how the world is now (they didn't even have a lot of basic walker knowledge at this point either, so...) They are very lucky that Governor didn't have ill intent with Megan.

Gracie's Revenge

Ya I think that, at least in the show, before he became the Governor, and specifically before he lost Penny, Phillip was probably a decent guy. Milton eludes to as much. And he seemed to be a family man who loved his wife and daughter. But he definitely had something in him that was buried where he had the potential to be a psychopath. Or, losing Penny just damaged him beyond repair.

Chrissi

What's crazy to me is even in a non-apocalyptic world I wouldn't let my kid (especially if shes non-verbal) be with any person i just met. Like I understand leaving for a few minutes after getting to know then for a month or more, but a day? Nope. Not without supervision. I am protective and one may argue I'm over protective but in that world I would not even let a person at in the same building as me and my kid unless I knew them a little or had several people who could take them out if there was a need.

Chrissi

Ah now thats funny

DanLand Saga

Tom your very right, the intelligence of the walkers are very inconsistent

Angelica Albanese

It was probably a mixture between the showrunners not wanting to cross that dark line too often and the AMC censoring the idea of using a child or children as walkers for an episode. They rather do it through environmental storytelling by letting the background/setting tell us the story.

Harry

I would watch a 12 hour compilation of tom dancing to intro songs

Harry

Love u so much tom your the best part of my day

Harry

It’s interesting to see the governor helping people like showing he could’ve been a good person if he didn’t go crazy

Frank(ie) D

You’re right to question the logic of the walkers since they can be extremely variable throughout the series. I like to think about it like this: We know the only “alive” part of the walkers is the brain stem, which is why they can only be killed by destroying that area of the brain. They don’t feel pain, they don’t get tired, and they don’t need to eat. We’ve seen walkers alive for months if not years after turning in areas where food is unavailable, yet they still persist. Even the governor’s heads were “alive” in the tanks. As for the elderly people, if the woman in the wheelchair had some kind of spinal cord injury that impeded the use of her legs, turning into a Walker won’t magically fix that. As for the rest of the elderly, remember they aren’t feeling pain. Sure, the elderly generally have weaker muscles, but with no pain I’d argue they’d be almost as agile as any other human. Most importantly, the walkers at this point in the series are kind of their own entity. As the series progresses, you’ll learn more about them and their behaviors, but for now, they’re mostly just an obstacle for our characters to face.

Mami's Gatos

This is my least favorite episode of the series. What a royal piece of shit. Makes me wish Shane was around. He would've ended the governor so fast.

Wolfy! Wolfi! Wolfé!

In the comic/books (dear lord the governor books are a trash pile) Brian is either his name or Philip is and his brother's name is the opposite. I don't remember which but it's kind of a nod to the comic. Mind you the TV version is better and makes more sense whereas the comic book version was a whole lot of Kitkman trying to see how horrible he could make a person.

Sussie

I never liked this episode, took awhile for me to get to this. I will say that I did get into it by the end of it. There is a side of him that does care of his lost family and he tries to recreate a new one by the end of this. I think he probably was a decent man before but something clearly snapped. Urgh, I hate the governor. I think, even if I hate him, I like that they showed the story of a villan too. Everyone got a story, even people we don’t like and by showing this one might understand his resoning even if it’s warped.

MamaBinTennessee

One of the artists featured in this episode is Ben Nicols and he is fantastic! Check him out especially the track called "Shelter" .

Jo

I think Martinez and Shump? went with him initially because they just watched him gun down his people who tried to leave and knew he would likely do the same to them. They took the first opportunity to flee.

Mami's Gatos

Yo!!! You made ma laugh so hard with the walker wheelchair question!! ♿️ Valid point. Never thought of that b4

Mami's Gatos

My least favorite episode next to s7 e1 Shane woulda joined Meryl and taken this fool out while Rick was talking things out

Mami's Gatos

That last part. Especially tara with her "cop experience"

Mami's Gatos

I thought Brian was his brothers name 🤔

Korivex

Brian Harriot was written on the wall of the building he was looking at.... it wasn't made clear if that was a random message he was looking at or if it had some significance to him. It could have been his name, his brother's name, someone else he knew or someone that didn't have anything to do with him. We don't really know.

Virginia Harp

The only thing that I like about this episode is it introduced Tara.

Dee D

FUN FACT: the lady used in the picture with the governor and his daughter was show producer Denise Huth.

Rina Meyers

Tom, if you are enjoying this, you NEED to look into "The Last of Us"!!! Now thats a RIDE!!!
