Nothing against Squid Game (I loved season 1), but BoJack Horseman is possibly the best show for Tom to react to (tied with Vinland Saga imo). The other shows are amazing television, so they will of course produce moments that a therapist can provide useful commentary for, but I don’t think there are shows that come quite as close to fitting perfectly for a therapist as Vinland and BoJack (Sopranos too but he has that one covered already haha). The other shows I’ve seen in these polls recently just don’t *entirely* revolve around the mental health journey of the protagonist in the same ways.

Genuinely, Bojack Horseman is the BEST show to watch for this channel. It's RIDDLED with mental health related topics. Squid game is a good show but not over Bojack for its content. I really hope Bojack still gets a solidified spot even if it doesn't win.

For real. Everyone wants to claim that their show has to do with mental health and it’ll either be the bare minimum vague idea of “trauma”, or a one episode character study. Bojack’s entire concept revolves around mental health, traumas, disorders, and the highs and lows possible of man.

Many shows in the past have elements of mental health present, but none of them are as focused on the mentality, emotions, and dynamics as Bojack Horseman is. Where someone might suffer in a show after an event, Bojack focuses on the life of characters who deal with their trauma, their worst moments, and their toxic relationships with people. Trauma is developed sometimes, but most of the time it is about the life of someone living with their illness. Narcassicm, depression, anxiety, trauma, drug/alcohol addiction, hypocricy. We see characters have highs, and crash down to lows. It is the pinnacle of showcasing living with incredibly difficult things that drive people to ruin relationships, harm themselves, or obsess over others forgoing their own selfs. This is not just a show about a horse. There are several characters the show focuses on, and none of them are perfect. It is an incredibly real piece where happy endings are not real, but shows we have the ability to change and hold ourselves accountable. If we want to see Tom react to mental health, Bojack Horseman is the choice many have been waiting for and for good reason. If you think of it as some cartoon, then you are only doing yourself a disservice by judging it off its medium. If you think it's just another claim of "this show has mental health", no, it IS about mental health. And if you have watched the first season and don't like it, I applaud you for putting in the effort to judge it AFTER checking the material. The first season is by far the lightest, but it shows insight into what is going to come. We have to stop thinking of "This show is shorter". We should be thinking of what Tom can react to, how we will get the most out of his experience as a therapist. I have no hate to Squid Game. I watched the first 2 seasons and enjoyed it, but it doesn't compare to some of the elements Bojack Horseman has. Yes, it has powerful scenes, but it takes time for us to get to them while Bojack Horseman covers expanding dynamics and new relationships over the course of the series in much more deep ways as it is the focus of the show, while Squid Game often takes more time to set up while also using violence to gain shock. Bojacks punches will hit you in the heart each time, and never with some shock value. I just feel the need to type a lot for this show. It's my favorite ever and pulled me from a very dark place in life by seeing myself in characters, and seeing the people around me in them. It expanded my views, and with a real therapists reaction to it, we all will learn a lot.

And for those who say "next time you can get Bojack", that's been said many times before. There is no "next time", because another show can appear and win. It has happened again and again. And yes, Bojack Horseman is a comedy drama. It has comedy, and uses it often, but when it wants to hit you, it will go right for the heart. And for those who want to shit on Bojack, or any other show instead of showing support for your pick, it shows your character. Let's be better.

Someone clearly didn’t actually watch the show. It won Emmy’s for multiple different episodes and is arguably the greatest mental health focused show of all time. I’ve never seen such depth given to six wildly different characters all at the same time, while also expressing different art forms and including very clever comedy. If you didn’t watch past the first episode, then idk what to tell you.

It’s not excessively gory, it just has a lot when it does happen. It’s barely about anything to do with mental health though, it’s just a jab at Korean capitalism and the lack of care for the poor and homeless. Only season 1 is good though. 2 and 3 are buns.

We’ve been asking for over a year and every time there’s a vote, people throw it for every reason but for what the main purpose of this channel is: mental health and psychology, which is everything that Bojack is. Everyone says “Bojack will come next time” and that just never happens. If you do read this, I implore you, as do many others here, to just watch it regardless, please.

Bojack is around 30 hours, Squid Game around 22. Bojack will be getting more episodes a post though due to shorter episode length, so it being "so long" is hardly a fair stance as it might only be 4/5 weeks longer. I do disagree with people arguing that Squid Game is a plant option though, seems like a stretch. Why do you think Squid Game should be picked?

You know what else won an Emmy? The last season of Game of Thrones. As a matter of fact, there are troves of shows that have won Emmys and were objectively bad shows. Winning an Emmy isn't the mic drop you think it is. Your credibility building could use some work. Also, I did watch past the first episode, but never let reality get in the way of a strawman argument. It's much easier to invent an argument and then show how that argument is wrong. I think the reason people, including myself, are more pressed to see a Bojack reaction comes from it being a very personal show. It touches the people who watched it in ways no other show has done, making the people who want it very vocal and demanding of it, while something like Fallout's votes come from it being very entertaining to watch (Definitely my next vote once Bojack wins). Didn't realise it's been in demand for so long though, it still feels like a new show despite being 2 years old. Anyways, we do hope for Bojack at some point and hopefully when we get to it, you'll understand why. Very excited for the future and to hear your thoughts on such a powerful show when we get there.

Honestly for me Bojack is a show I never want to watch again, partly because of the length and other parts pain, but the truth remains it would be a better show than Squid Game material wise.
