This video went through many variations and many drafts! Ada and I definitely struggle with perfectionism a bit. 😅 We recommended various media in the last livestream based on what we were writing at the time, some of which made it into the final video, some of which didn't. But hopefully this is the best version of this video, and we really hope you enjoy it! This is kind of a spiritual sequel to "Good Representation is Boring", but its very different and references a lot of what we talked about in other videos over the last year too! See ya soon!

Looking forward to it! Internet has been an issue lately but hopefully I can make it to the premiere!

I will make a proper comment on the video later, but i just want to say i recommended this video to all my queer brazilian friends and they fucking loved it lol

Ghosts And You Might Die

This was a treat! Seconded on loving the bisexual lighting -- the club bathroom setting as a whole just delighted me. Also delightful: Ada's brief cameo, the adorable vampy devil persona, Verity's evident and visceral enjoyment of disaster bisexual characters (me too!!). Aside from the aesthetics and wonderful production values, the content is excellent as always. Thank you for advocating for more inclusive, interesting, diverse bisexual media!

Found and am watching Bisexual and the Slope

This video (like every other video of yours that I've watched so far) is so smart! Every time I watch one of your videos I find myself thinking 'damn that's nuanced thinking!' or 'that's exactly what I've been trying to put into words for years!'. I decided I had to subscribe to your Patreon after watching this one. Thanks for all the hard work!

Tali

I'm watching The Bisexual and it's very very good. It's incredibly funny and very well written. It's also such a good reflection of London. I also have to literally hide my face in a pillow to handle how awkward it can be. Thank you so much for recommending!

Verity Ritchie

Haha, the pillow is necessary, I should've warned! XD Thanks, Natalie!

Thank you for becoming a Patron, Esen, and thank you for the kind words!

I thought The Bisexual was brilliantly made, but I wasn't surprised when it didn't become a big success because it was SUCH a downer. Greek tragedy levels of relentless misery. There was so much there that is brilliant, as you point out, but I do think the show would have been more successful with a better management of light and shadow, highs and lows. There was so much in it that was extremely *relateable*, but I think the constant cringe-sads made it very difficult for people to enjoy. I think what strikes me is that the problems you point out are a symptom of "not enough". There is a place for sanitised queer romances AND bi misery-comedies, but neither are quite good enough on their own. We're trying to stretch meagre pickings to satisfy our hunger for decent media. We need more shows like Heartstopper and The Bisexual, but also everything inbetween.

Oh, I recommended Heartstopper to a friend, who watched it with her 10 and 12yo daughters. Two weeks later, the 12yo has a girlfriend! <3 So while I do really agree with your criticisms, I think it helps to think of that early audience, who really do want to see gentle, sex-free romance and homophobic bullies being punched in the face.

You articulated everything that's been going around in my head for the past few months. I have been focusing on movies and shows from countries other than uk/us and France (my home country, so I do have access to a wider variety of French productions that don't make it internationally and are a better representation of where we're at rn), and it's been so refreshing and SO interesting to see the context of creation of these movies and shows. It's infuriating to only hear about Netflix and Amazon and Disney shows and how they're the best rn or how they're absolutely the worst. Their business model is v different the TV channel business model, which differs country to country. Sorry a lot of thoughts still swimming around in my brain about this haha. Anyway, thanks again for such an amazing video! I've been meaning to join patreon for ages but somehow I could not find you through the patreon app and the link just wouldn't work on my Firefox app.

Verity Ritchie

Thank you for the kind words, and thanks for joining, Gab, glad you found me! :D

Whenever I feel like a bad bisexual for feeling """mostly straight""" and like I don't really fit anywhere, I just put on a verilybitchie video and I feel right as rain again. Thanks, Veirty, for putting into words what I'm feeling and thinking - about myself and about media :)
