Hey guys, my artist from the Spellheart series (Titi-artwork on Deviantart) drew Crownhill for us!

This is roughly how it should look by the end of book 6, with the multiple districts and shield included.

As I mentioned before, no chapter today. Family stuff. Sorry! I will hopefully have another chapter of book 7 by Wednesday or so.

Wow! It looks better than what I had in my imagination. I think I was still thinking too heavily in terms of apocalypse/integration ridden city/town vibe. Crownhill has its shit together.😄

Andrew Mclain

Would love to see what it looked like when the wolves attacked. Or like mid battle scene or something

Joseph Bottoms

Amazing can’t wait to see what happens next!!! Thoughts are with you and your family.

Matt Renteria

It would be really cool if you added this in the 6th book even if you make it black and white for whatever reason. right before the first chapter that way we could really visualize crown Hill right before reading the book

Matt Renteria

It adds so much to my mental map of the story

Detectivetrap23

The obelisk is WAY bigger than I expected it to be haha

MarvinKnight

Honestly I thought it was smaller too, but I checked descriptions in book 2 of the one Carter fixed and it was described as pretty damn big.

MarvinKnight

Yeah, maybe! Unfortunately Amazon charges me a delivery fee, and it's much larger if I bulk up the file with images. An extra two cents a book doesn't sound like much, but it can add up. It's why a lot of fantasy authors don't include maps in their ebooks anymore. I think I could include a link to it on my website or something, though.

MarvinKnight

Yeah, Governess has been renovating lately.

Christopher Ruge

If I remember correctly, shouldn't the obelisk be levitating?

MarvinKnight

I don’t remember that. Maybe at some point it was levitating?

Christopher Ruge

I think it was either when Carter set up the obelisk in Crownhill or when the same thing happened in book 2

Vorsayo

Was just coming here to post the same comment.

Vorsayo

Okay, now that you’ve given us a taste I want more 😝. How about an aerial view from a distance that can double as a pseudo map?

RestIsBest

That obelisk is way bigger then I thought

Jordan Abell

Same. I was thinking as tall as 2 maybe 3 stories

mark

It isn't the height that throws me so much. 20 to 40 meter tall Egyptian Obelisks exist. Although that includes the base pedestal. 40 meters being about 131 feet, or in the range of a 10 to 13 story tall building depending on floor heights inside. Which does also call attention to the matter that the scales for the more historic feeling buildings and the modern buildings is very different. Especially with the city walls as a backdrop to compare against. The bigger issue for me is obelisks generally held to somewhere in the 1:9 or 1:11 ratio range. It's either too short for how wide it is, or it is too wide for how tall it is.

RestIsBest

That has to be way taller then 131 feet. If the dots are people to scale that thing is colossal.

dtothef

Why are there holes in the shield? Kind of defeats the purpose.

MarvinKnight

That is an artistic concession to practicality. With a solid shield you can’t see the landscape and the blue color made the buildings look unnatural. Just imagine the shield is transparent in the sections far enough away from the pylons.
