I thought that instead of the normal "everything went well this week", I'd give you a bit of insight into a typical scene setup where I plan for something, but the 3D world had other plans (everything still went well this week, though).

The scene is Celeste and Sam's car breaking down on a remote desert road.

First, I loaded the environment and Celeste's rental.

So far so good, but then I find out that the person who made that car didn't add the option to open the hood. Well, since I need the hood to open, and I can't change the car, since it's been Celeste's rental all throughout the game, I have to make it myself.

Loading the car into Blender and removing the hood isn't hard. Tinkering, time-consuming work, but still, it worked out fine.

Then I have to do it all over again, this time removing the car and keeping the hood.

With these as two separate objects, I can load them back into Daz Studio, re-shade them, and position the hood so it looks open and connected to the car.

Since the hood was never meant to open, there's no engine in there. Luckily, Wibble and his constant attention to detail have an engine in his 3d model car, so let's bring it over.

It doesn't fit perfectly, the dampers/springs are wrong, and there's a bit of clipping towards the windscreen, but it's enough for my needs. I still don't like how there are spaces at the corners where the headlamps are, so let's fix that. Another round in Blender of aligning, and I'm left with this.

So, with the car done, let's bring in the fun part. It's also a hot spot to break down, so let's give Celeste a bit of moisture to her skin.

While Sam is more comfortable on the top of a hood, Celeste isn't afraid to get under it. She knows the difference between a carburetor and a flux capacitor, and don't mind getting dirty. Let's fix that. I have an old "skin dirt" asset that I never used. This is a good time to change that.

Okay, so that didn't work. And to top it off, it's horrible. Looks like she's been run over by a car and is now in a full-body cast. Checking into it, I see that the dirt layer is meant for Genesis 8, and Celeste is Genesis 8.1. After converting the dirt layer and changing it so it looks more like she's been wiping sweat with her dirty hands and leaning on dirty things, she finally looks like this.

I guess you're wondering why I go through so much trouble to set these things up? Well, here's why...

And let's add Sam to the mix as well.

HQ versions attached to this post.

And with that, have a warm, hot, delightful weekend, and always get under the hood and give the gal a full service before going on a long journey. The car, that is. Or your significant other. Or both.

Blood Of A Hero

Thanks for the update as always Drifty! It's cool to see how you set up scenes! And man that is a fantasstic render too 👀👀 I hope you have a fantastic weekend! Stay safe out there and I hope development continues to go well ❤️

Remixedmind

Dunno if you worked on the "front", but damn that "rear"...

WaffleIron131

That’s insanely cool to see how you create a scene like this Drifty. The car model is like a 90’s Ford Crown Vic but the engine is like an FB25 from a Subaru. Being able to seamlessly put the two together is incredible. Also can’t not mention the girls either, gotta have the mandatory Sam trying to hitchhike 😂. Thank you for the update and showing us the work that goes into this game. Keep up the amazing work!

Kaotik

Great post. These "behind the scenes" posts are the best. It's always great to get to see. The hard work never goes unnoticed. Awesome renders. They probably broke down because the motor mounts finally gave out. An engine swap from a Zirael (aka Subaru) to a Crown Vic is ambitious.🤣 Thanks for the update, Drifty. Have an awesome weekend.

Lav

thanks for sharing your work process with such beautiful examples!

flashkiller

It's odd that her boobs seem to be covered in grime below the cleavage line while the top itself seems pristine. I hope she wasn't fixing the car while topless?

Twisted Wine

That was really cool to see Drifty. I've always been very curious how 3d rendering in Daz and Blender work 'under the hood' especially when I see different devs do two different things with the same map or asset. But I lack the computer power to experiment with the software on my own so this show and tell was really appreciated.

Thanks for showing this Drifty. It’s really cool. You’re so talented

Insightful as always. Thank you for the update. 😎👍

JEH

Thank you for the update and for the interesting "behind the scenes".👍😊

I've always loved behind the scenes just to see the hard work behind something seemingly that wouldn't be too difficult but actual has a lot of moving parts.

GhostReader

This is exactly what I love to see! Helps players understand what they may see as a glaring issue, but is really a tiny bit of acceptable clipping after hours and hours of work. "Good enough" is a thing. Thanks for the samples and the update!!!

GhostReader

I see what you did, there

Tom W

Always love the way you “show the work” Thanks for this and hope you have a great weekend

AZGrackle

That was really cool to see. I am impressed you didn't go 'eff it and just put another car in there like some other devs would have. You took the time to figure it out. Plus showing it to all of us makes it even that much better. When the next update comes out, I'm sure we'll all be looking at the scene and smiling because we know what went into it, but that will be short lived after seeing Celeste's 'ass'ets in game. :)

Looking for the works from your buddies like stoya and the other one you mentioned

Sweetonu

That seems like a lot of work but I loved the way you explained all the steps to us. Thank you!
