The Concoction (Patreon)

"He filled the next stretch of his time with pipettes, measurements, and a steady hand. Rushing around the room, he gathered up bottles that lined the curving shelves and added tiny droplets of the liquid to the black vial. Some mixes were too jovial, others a little too stressed out. With each glowing droplet he studied its reaction with the fluid, scrawling notes and tweaking numbers. He added a passionate red, the colour spreading into the blackness like petals falling from a wilting flower. Then a nervous yellow – the fluorescent colour sparking away as streaks of lightning. Under his mask, he scrunched his nose. Perhaps a blue? The deep azure, far more confident and floatier than the previous colours, swirled into little tight spirals as it spread throughout the concoction, and Peregrine grinned. This was tonight’s mix. Confident, floaty, touches of anxiety and flaring with passion. This was a perfect mix for tonight’s dreams."
