Hey everyone, it's Bonus Dose Day, and today I've got kind of a fitting topic as we enter Spooooky Season, as AI companies look to raise the dead. Enjoy this follow-up of sorts to a recent Scumbags of the Internet, as companies weren't content with exploiting Stan Lee when he was alive... now they're doing it in death!

What happens when your cash cow dies? Just make an AI version! At the most recent Los Angeles Comic Con, a company dragged out an AI model of comic book legend Stan Lee that people could pay money to get selfies with and ask questions at. Buckley explores the idea that, maybe, it's unhealthy to create computer simulations of the dead, but that we're already on the path to future generations being completely unable to let go.

Exploiting Stan Lee From Beyond (The Stan Lee AI) (Extra Dose)

Well said. AI is going to be a problem. The technology is growing faster than humans can keep up with it, so to speak.

Huh, Buckley must hang around weird people. I mostly hear grumblings, though I do associate with plenty of artists and other creative folk. Anyway.. Purge the clankers!

God that girl is such a goober; I bet she wet herself a little bit, too.

As one of the ancients here, I firmly believe that AI is the direct path to Terminators. I have a lifelong record of being right about these things. Hopefully this is the time I am wrong.

AI Buckley will be forever cranky from the great beyond.

From what I’ve heard some of the people who are deep into perfecting AI are out of their minds. They think they’re creating god and one day they will merge with god to become one with it. They’re a cult. Cults are everywhere even with super rich insane nerds.

Sean Flynn

In the words of Timmy Baterman. "Sometimes, dead is better."

Reminds me of the black mirror episode where the pregnant wife’s husband dies. She used a text bot then a voice call the all the way up to a robot who looks like him. It’s sad. Also you aren’t alone. I find this sad.

Good to see at least one other person on earth seems to understand how dangerous of a direction AI has been going.

Kyle Carvell

Between the kids growing up in the midst of this, and how much easier it can be to accept something without understanding it, I wonder how long it'll be before even just 10% of the population genuinely doesn't get the difference between the living person and the ai ghost of them

🌟

Freaks me out seeing how regular people interact with AI and large language models. As someone in technology, it is not what I'd predict we'd be doing with it at least as much.

"And remember, stay angry!"

J-mann

This should be a wake up call for celebrities to make sure that no AI company gets access to there likeness or voice

John Dors

You aren’t alone. But it does feel like there’s less and less of us around who can’t stand the ai bullshit

Ash Archer

I’ve said all along; AI is Pandoras Box

DOAA

generative AI needs to be abolished.

Matthew

The vast majority of humans are incredibly stupid. AI will be the death of humanity even if it is simply because it is draining more resources than anything else that currently exists and there won't be enough for the rest of us.

The first time someone said “I asked my ai buddy about this and he said….” I knew I was officially old.

LissaChelle9002

On the surface, AI is impressive. But at the end of the day, it's a tool that relies on humans. Humans should not have to revolve their lives around AI, and they sure as fuck don't need to use it as a coping mechanism to avoid the realities of life.

Solar sands also has a great video essay where he touches on this topic. He criticizes movie studios (mostly Disney) for participating in digital necromancy and the refusal/denial of death for our entertainment/a cheap thrill. He also has some videos criticizing AI. Overall this direction we are heading towards is scary and should set off some alarms. The average person loves flashy, gimmicky schlop and generative ai can feed them all of it forever. We are very close to a dystopian future where the dead can’t rest, instantaneous gratification prevails over everything, and the homogeny of ai will be seen in every sector of our life, all while these corporations profit big bucks off our demise.

Cant wait for my Adam Buckley AI
