Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and today we got one of those topics that was pretty unavoidable for this channel. OH, and just a quick look ahead to the next couple weeks, I've got a Musical Autopsy scheduled for next Saturday (if you liked the format for the Sleep Token one, you'll really like this one), and then I've got what I think will be a couple fun surprises after that, some videos to get you ready for List Season in December. Enjoy!

We're about halfway through Football season, which brings with it the greatest annual tradition of all: complaining about whoever's been chosen to perform the Super Bowl Halftime show! And this year, the NFL has REALLY given people something to whine about by choosing Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican performer who doesn't sing in English! Buckley suggests what might have been a safer choice, wonders if the language the performer sings in even matters, and looks at the ALL AMERICAN ALTERNATIVE.

Haven’t watched a half time show since 2015. I think it was Bruno Mars and I actually enjoyed it. Haven’t listened to him sing a note since. Half time isn’t something I care for. I don’t watch pre or post game. I just wanna watch the game and move on. It’s like when I used to watch boxing, I hated all the preamble. Just run to the ring like George Foreman did once and start punching each other please.

Nicole

As an atheist who wasn't really forced to go to church but did go as a child and did say my prayers at night with my Oma, I sometimes (maybe once a year) like to go to our local old school church for comfort and nostalgia reasons....kinda like the beliebers just with out the beliebing part. It's weird, I know. I've also gone when invited to Catholic church because I admire the architecture and the choir.

Brandon Delon

It’s like when I used to watch boxing Co Pro Tennis, and the match would end. Someone asks, “What was your strategy out there?” I don’t know. To hit the ball past my opponent. Not many different ways you can do that. So what’s the point of these useless questions over and over.

Petty Officer No Class

Mike Johnson doesn't know who Bad Bunny is but is sure he must be a bad guy

Grant Potter

🤣🤣🤣 fuckin football. Sports people (I am one of them) are so ridiculous. Like what about this is so goddamn important that you make it political. Tell me the sky is falling again….

A Dose of Buckley

Well he does have BAD in his name! But yeah I do enjoy that, "I've never heard of him but someone told me he's not very good"

Ron

I am a Christian Leftist and NFL fan, the halftime show does more for the artist than NFL fans. Literally Kendrick's album got more streams after the Super Bowl last year. Prince's greatest hits albums got a boost after he did the show, need I say more?!!! Here are a list of performers who are right leaning who can perform at the 'alternative American halftime show': Carrie Underwood Kid Rock Lee Greenwood Jason Aldean Tom MacDonald Morgan Wallen Snoop Dogg Rick Ross Nelly Soulja Boy DaBaby Kodak Black Nicki Minaj Lil Wayne Waka Flocka Flame Kanye West or Ye Chance The Rapper Anyone else I am missing?

Ron

I'm a Christian who has atheist friends, they like my church for the architecture as well.

Ron

Its entertainment not political, I wasn't a fan of Maroon 5's show (as was a large swath of Americans left and right) but whatever lol....

Grant Potter

I guess I’m a little irritated because it has been politicized on my football team in Canada for some reason. Didn’t mean to come off as a dick

Scott the K

I remember when Kid Rock played and conservatives were pissed that he wore an American flag as a cape. There was pearl clutching about it being disrespectful to vets or some nonsense. How the worm has turned.

Serena

Hahahahahaha oh.my.god. this has reached a level of absurd I am not surprised by at all. The Lee Greenwood bit had me clapping alone in my room, so good Buckley. Not to be a broken record but thanks as always for the catharsis.

SwaggSwiggity

Forrest Frank, Lil Pump, Upchurch, and Jelly Roll

Shaka, When the Walls Fell

Not once in my life have I given a flying fuck, or any sort of fuck, about the superbowl, and I don't see it in the stars that I will anytime soon.

Ron

Trump said Lil Pump is Lil Pimp lol

Ron

You are good, I can take the criticism about loving football lol

A Dose of Buckley

Yeah Carrie Underwood really does seem to be leaning pretty hard into that now, but does she still perform the Sunday Night Football theme? I would imagine they would drop her if she went and did some anti-NFL thing. Kanye would do it, but I think even Turning Point wouldn't go that far. Morgan Wallen I think would if this was 5 years later, he still has a career right now he wants to safe. Snoop might, just because he's an agitator, but that'd stop any future Super Bowl appearances, same with the Olympics, all the things that have had him on. I would really enjoy if a Christian organization had Rick Ross, a man who stole the name of a criminal, as a performer. I think they'd pass on most of the rappers though for not fitting in with their values (the complaints if Nicki Minaj was chosen? The Anaconda/Stupid Hoe woman?!)

A Dose of Buckley

Yeah it's funny because he doesn't REALLY fit the values anyway, they keep bringing him up, and so much of his stuff is pretty filthy for Christians. Even "All Summer Long", the one song of his that right wingers actually like "we were smokin' funny things" and "drinkin' whisky out the bottle", if their claim is they want this thing to be family friendly to compete with the heathen Super Bowl, that wouldn't fit.

Ron

Underwood does the Sunday Night Football intro. Kanye isn't a billionaire anymore, he might need the money. Snoop will do anything for money, yet he won't let that ruin his other streams of revenue. Tom MacDonald and Kid Rock def would do it cause they are the right's 'we hate rap music but we love them' poster boys.

A Dose of Buckley

What's interesting is you can basically skip/ignore any "political" stuff too if it really upsets a person. Like, don't watch the halftime show, don't watch the pre-game, there were people upset on the other "side" at all the Charlie Kirk memorials before the games (the Yankees had one, most of the football games did one), just don't turn the game on until kickoff, or just leave the TV on mute or whatever. OR, follow sports the way I do, just watching highlights pretty much. Just nothing but plays!

Ron

As a leftist I didn't care for Charlie Kirk moments of silence, I was like 'they did it. Play ball'

Aaron Rainer

I heard turning point had Metallica lol

A Dose of Buckley

Yeah I think I saw that one too, people will believe anything if they think Metallica would play for Turning Point (OR that Turning Point would really want Metallica, they don't seem overly Christian).

Ash Archer

Before today, I genuinely thought Bad Bunny was a female rapper, that’s how little I knew about them. Time to crawl back under my rock - you’re right, the rent is cheap

Fiz Gig

Ahem... We call it the Brotherly Shove here in Philly land. The rest of the league can tush push. Since they do it like ass. 😏🦅🦅

Petty Officer No Class

Yeah I didn't see any of of them. Literally didn't know they did them until I read this comment. I'm firmly in the "if you don't like it, you have every right to just not watch". It's easy! And hey, good on them for staging an alt halftime show. In Living Color did that back when Super Bowl halftime shows sucked (it did better than the actual halftime!). But don't be upset when it does significantly less numbers than the biggest star in music.

Alexa Franklin

I am right there with you. I also had assumed Bad Bunny was a female rapper.

Alexa Franklin

I don’t find that weird at all. I am not religious myself but my late grandmother was very devout to her faith. I would go to church with her to spend time with her, and go out to breakfast after since that was a big treat for me. When she passed earlier this year and I went to her service in that same church I grew up using for social and food reasons, it felt like she was there with me. I would go back only to feel closer to her. My cousin who is Catholic would sing in that same grandmother’s Lutheran choir to spend time with our grandmother too. As long as no one is being directly disrespectful, I don’t see any issue with anyone going to a church.

Adam F

American Football is a slog to watch.

Adam F

Wonder what Hulk thinks of this years entertainment.....

Adam F

Kendricks half time show is the only part of the Superbowl I watched last year and he was amazing. The AFL had Snoop Dogg for our Geand Final and he put on a great show.

Summer Hay

You got confused with Bhad Bhabie, that is pretty funny though

Summer Hay

Bit of a wildcard, but I would add Avril Lavigne to the list.

The Kitchen Stink

Yeah they got no right to talk about cricket being boring

A Dose of Buckley

Yeah I heard another Aussie mention that the Snoop performance was really good, that he worked in a bunch of AFL stuff (remixing team songs or something), like he'd done his homework.

Ron

I meant to add Ray J (the guy Kim K did the sex tape with) and The Game (a rapper who is aligned with Kanye)

Ron

I love everyone as long as we are cool, your background doesnt matter.

Nicole

say man, that's nice. love you too brother!

DocDaneekaMD

NFL fans tend to forget that the NFL is a business whose goal is making more money, not catering to their preferred form of entertainment. It’s the same with any other pro sports league.
