Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day AND 4th of July Eve! Make sure to leave out raw milk and uncooked cookie dough for Uncle Sam! This week's video is a topic I've briefly touched on over the years whenever it comes up, but a post that went viral really brought it to the forefront... show of hands: how many of you thought "Born in the USA" was really patriotic and didn't have an alternate message? None of you?! Huh, but Aaron Lewis says we were ALL tricked!

Happy 250th Birthday, America! In honor of the USA's independence, let's celebrate with one of the most patriotic songs of all time, Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA"! Wait, it's actually NOT PATRIOTIC?! Oh wait, EVERYONE already knew that?! Everyone but Aaron Lewis, country singer and frontman of the rock band "Staind" apparently! But while he complains that "we" were all duped, Buckley makes the case that it actually IS one of the most patriotic songs ever. DOUBLE DUPED!

First amendment to the Right: we can say whatever we want without regulation. Including insulting others with no proof and 'misinterpreting' songs WE don't like

Man, it must be tough to be this stupid…

Well done Buckley! As someone from NJ, just like Bruce, there was no way he'd be writing the type of song people think that this is. But one note on lyrics, I have been a Yes fan for 53 years. Their lyrics in their classic era make no sense. Shining flying purple wolfhound, show me where you are? But I sing along anyway. 😜

Now that's a wonderful bit to end this video with.

When a song has lyrics that are complete nonsense, that's fine! Although I'm not sure what's worse... the people who don't listen to lyrics and think a song is about something it isn't, OR, the people who DO listen to lyrics but also think a song is about something it isn't ("OH it's actually about capitalism maaaaan" OR, it's just about dragons)

They say ignorance is bliss... that must have made Aaron Lewis the happiest man in the world.

Scott the K

Betting he was duped by We Take Care of Our Own as well.

Aaron Lewis is herpes. He just won't go away. I had to explain to a friend that this song isn't patriotic. She was surprised. And I was like seriously?

I love how so many anti intellectual MAGA musicians try to play the victim card over being that they are just too thick to ever listen to lyrics of a song they assume was Fox News propaganda!

I've noticed a lot of right wingers actually get really mad when you say the words "media literacy", like it's like telling a woman to "calm down", sends them into a rage! They don't like ANY art you have to think about for a moment, they need everything to be "what it says on the box". I'm a guy who notoriously jokes about "not getting art" all the time and I think these people are too dumb.

I could talk about Springsteen… but more interested in talking about Bad Head. #BringBackBadHead

I did not realize the lyrics to Born in the USA until 2004 in Brussels. I was at a Pub singing it to Karaoke. Once i hit the lyric "to go and kill the yellow man" it hit me that I had know Idea what this song was about. To make it more awkward , I did this while I was on a date with a woman who was a Thai National.

Fun fact! It was multiple weeks after first watching your videos that I actually watched the musical autopsies, and I didn't much like them at first. I wasn't really interested in music critique at the time, but they've since grown on me. I think my first ep of yours was you telling off some dumb people for taking something they saw online too seriously.
