Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day AND it's a Musical Autopsy of probably the biggest song of 2026 so far (and likely #1 on Billboard's year-end list), so enjoy!

Doc Buckley heads down to the ice cold Musical Morgue to look at two of the hottest songs so far this summer, both by 2026 breakout star Ella Langley. Choosin' Texas has dominated the charts for the first half of the year, so surely her followup will do something a LITTLE different to show off her range, right? RIGHT?!

Well! That was refreshing! Country music from someone I never heard of, instead of pop from someone I never heard of. I swear Buckley, you're keeping me attached to modern culture. I appreciate the buffer zone though.

Always happy to provide a service! Now when she shows up at some major event, you can tell your friends "What, you don't know the BIGGEST new star of 2026? Man you're old!"

I love when you autopsy these songs, I like it, but it does also scream TikTok type breakup songs like Olivia Rodrigo

A Dose of Buckley

I tried (with what little skill I have) to beat-match those two clips at the end, and yeah it's not an overly noticeable difference in songs, at worst it just sounds like I skipped ahead 30 seconds.

Awesome video and a much needed take on this!

Dear Buckley, fuck you for reminding me that “Hot Problems” existed. Yours sincerely.

Adam Weller

I had a truly visceral, recoiling reaction to that hitting my ears for the first time in over a decade.

Okay, but why did the choosin Texas song just make me think of Hank Hill 😂

A Dose of Buckley

Maybe "Texas" is Peggy. She was trying to seduce Hank but he could never leave Arlen.

These girls can't pretend to be the pretty girl, because for some reason, these songs are anthems for the very girls out drinking who look like this and want to think their boyfriends left them for someone "hotter" rather than the fact they have the personality of flatware most of the time. And if they have a single drop of alcohol, the world is against them, and their man smiling at the waitress means he's been sexting her and jumping into her bed at 3AM for weeks. Somehow he does that, works a construction job 10 hours a day, and comes home to a disheveled house that she hasn't cleaned because she was busy binging the last season of "Love is Blind", bitching about him to all her girl friends, and spending his money on Amazon. Nope, those things can't have anything to do with it. Don't get me wrong, men have their issues. But the issue is deeper (pun intended) than their looks. Women are always saying, "A woman can look past a man's looks. I love a man who can make me laugh..." and all that shit. But after that initial romp in the sheets, he might start noticing the things he didn't see while staring at her "hits". Suddenly, the fact that her voice has that ear-piercing tonal quality, the way she ends every sentence with "-uh", and how she wants to pick a fight with someone every time they go out starts annoying him. Hate Nickelback all you want, but the song, "Figured You Out" speaks directly to a lot of this stuff.

To me this song is related to "Austin" by Dasha, in that they're both very pandery Mad libs-style stringings together of country tropes. If that makes sense. "I'm drinking [my sponsored whiskey] cause my man left me for a snake in his boot"

Maybe her boyfriend chose Texas because we don't have state taxes. 😂 And better BBQ.
