Hey everyone, it's Bonus Dose Day! Similar to last week's Extra Dose, today we have ANOTHER follow-up to a fairly recent video, if you recall the "Nobody Wants New Music in 2025" Dose from last year. Enjoy!

Buckley follows up his video from last year where we found out that the charts are becoming more "stale" (the same songs linger for longer) by looking at this year's stats. Turns out that not only is that trend continuing, an even funnier thing has happened: people are avoiding swearing! Maybe not so funny for the longevity of ol' filthy-mouthed Buckley's content...

2026 Music: Fewer Stars, Less Swearing (Extra Dose)

People are burned out. I’m sure they have bigger things to worry about than someone sweating or flashing.

There are so many factors that I don't even know. One day the 'curse' may be broken. But in the meantime, I am listening to music from other countries and older songs. Songs are more interesting to listen to and already made a connection to me.

Brandon Delon

I do like that song by the goo goo dolls. I haven’t listened to it this year. I’ve been listening to nothing but Japanese artists lately. Trying to improve my Japanese comprehension. I’ve actually discovered quite a few I really enjoy. My favorite so far is Halcali. They last made an album in 2013 I believe.

I'm not really one to judge, but given that so many rap songs including featured songs in a certain annual list tend to concentrate on money, jewellery, cars, booze and procreation, could it be that listeners are simply bored of repetition?

Having kids in their late teens I had to put up with a ton of the weak little baby music that's been going on for at least 20 years, my efforts to indoctrinate them into the glorious world of Pantera and Slayer didn't work so much. At least my son still likes metal, I screwed up bad with my daughter.

Wayne Wooten

Um, I've been scrolling threw top 150 playlists from the 80's threw 90's and other playlists from those times. You got that so true on how we're going back to the older music, and most all of it I've herd on those have been radio friendly songs.

A Dose of Buckley

Could be, although there's definitely nothing more repetitive than, say... listening to THRILLER for the 8 millionth time. And regular pop music is pretty generic too, Sabrina Carpenter or Olivia Rodrigo singin' about boys they want to pork. Or pop-Country about drinkin' and breakin' up with your girl/boy.

A Dose of Buckley

Haha you can only push so hard. Not all daughters are going to like Cemetery Gates.

A lot of this is trend based. Many of the songs listed at the end with the Spotify list are explained with online TikTok and Instagram trends or pop culture. One Tha Got Away and Iris were part of trends and popular “edits” whereas MJ music is seeing a spike with the new biopic. The lack of new music feels like a result of how many artists have made fandoms of their followers, BTS has “Army” following them to constantly stream them and it is a thing among Kpop fans, but especially BTS fans to stream music as often as possible, and Swifties and their need to almost exclusively listen to Taylor.

Regarding the boring and bland aspects that are coming into our lives: I feel like this is already happening, and we mostly opened the gates for this by accepting content shown based on algorithms, and that content needs to be accepted by us within an acceptable short attention span. Spotify has playlists like "80s summer hits", which used to be a playlist which showed everyone the same music, but is now generated for the listener, meaning you will be listening to the same songs that you mostly already know. The same goes for other streaming services, they start with content based on what you have watched and what the others are watching, which are always the same five old sitcoms and maybe one or two new viral sensations. New shows and direct-to-streaming movies are made as "second screen content", so they're easy to follow while browsing TikTok. These movies do not ask anything from the viewer, as far as I see they are not meant to spark emotion but are meant to be consumed. Half the movies showing in cinemas here are franchises, sequels or remakes. I strongly believe that most people do not have a strong emotion with the most popular content, at least not at the rate that it is consumed. I hope that people are going to realize that finding new things without an algorithm is, especially if it turns out enjoyable, an unmatched experience worth pursuing.

A day late and a dollar short, but I swear, this is making me want to listen to the Gates of Delirium. Again. Music is devolving, Devo was right about everything.

Funny. When I was growing up my mom hated gangster rap. However, something like Slayer didn't bother her. I once asked her why that was. She said Snoop Dogg said too many curse words. Ok. So bitches and hoes were a bother but a song about a Nazi doctor was a non issue. 😂

To be fair we did go to a breakfast cafe in Japan that served toast and coffee. Like, that's it. They didn't have eggs or muffins, nothing like that. It was pretty good though.

A Dose of Buckley

Was it just regular toast, or was it the Honeytoast they do? But yeah Japan's a different beast... when I went, there was this place by our hotel that only had pancakes. They were open for like 4 hours a day and that was it.

Shumiry

Yes same thing! They were only open from like 6-10am or something like that. They did offer several different kinds, I ended up getting cheese toast. It was exactly what you'd expect, just melted cheese on toast, but damn did it hit the spot anyways.

Honestly, think right now we’re catching up to where attention is just spread out on a bunch of different places and the way the music is short now is that you have a devoted fan that shoots your stuff up on the billboard not trying to get as many people as possible to listen to your stuff
