Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and today's video might be one of my most controversial videos ever, despite also being one that mostly makes fun of ME! Enjoy!

Sony has recently come under fire for numerous practices that are leading to the death of physical media while highlighting the problems of digital "ownership". Buckley, a LOOOONGTIME collector of physical media, has an opinion on this that might shock you. It's time for a self-intervention.

Sony is rightfully keeping a lid. This had a lot smoke LOL

Honestly, my only complaint about Sony going all digital is I won't be able to rent games through GameFly to see if I like the game before wasting the money on it. However that's a minor inconvenience at best.

I feel you on your Schindler's List lament. I own a copy of the killing fields that I have never watched. I have to be in a really great mood to watch something that I know will be messed. Also great job on the video! This is some George Carlin level material, with less profanity

Buckley i've never seen a video of yours that I agree more with, but also screw you you're a dirty liar I SWEAR i'm gonna play that copy of Madden 07 on Xbox even though I hate sports games and have never willingly played one in my entire life... Perhaps I should evaluate my own collection and *why* I feel the need to "complete" something I won't ever interact with (for the most part). Edit: wanted to add more on the specific topic though - I do strongly have an issue with digital-only services. Obviously as a collector i'm not a massive fan of digital-only media (ignoring my like 2k+ games on steam, *I swear i'll play all of them eventually, honest!*). But as you said with ultraviolet and those movies from sony, it can be so easily revoked. Not sure how many people here care about anime, but recently Crunchyroll (who has the exclusive rights to a lot of anime) barred their physical media shop to subscribers only, so you can no longer even purchase physical media unless you give them a monthly payment. *As well*, they also recently just straight up removed some anime from the site that you can now (as far as I can tell) no longer watch legally - if you want to, you'd either have to pony up large amounts of money for a used blu-ray on ebay (assuming the series has a physical release) or of course, pirate it. The issue with this though is that you *can't* pirate ps5 games (well at least, not yet). If it's something like a movie or something else, it's easily ripped online and will pretty much be preserved for life - can't say the same for things like this. I suppose you could make the argument that, like the ps3 and Vita, eventually tech will get better and people will make up methods for ripping digital-only content, but it *shouldn't have to get to that point*. As we can see with the recent announcement of Sony shuttering purchases from the PS3 & Vita (you can still download *for now* but can't buy anything new soon) what if we don't have the technology to rip games before they're shuttered? Do we just lose an entire console-worth of games? Obviously this ties into the better laws you mentioned but I don't think there's a clear and easy way to make this a situation that couldn't happen. (Sorry for the long message, just wanted to rant on the topic for a bit)

Oh, I guess I might as well stop the buying of DVDs and games for no reason now. Damn you Buckley,

FUCK ALL DIGITAL (me reacting within .5 seconds of the video)

Partialmean8

I'm saying this as a guy who both has sold his entire video game collection and is primarily on PC but people like thier physical game collections. I got rid of mine because it became a pain to maintain over the years. One of the things I think it's going to come from this is more people are going to volunteer for emulation for the last two generations of systems

I have never been so called out in a video before

A Dose of Buckley

Well if it makes you feel better? I have never been called out more either. And it's my video!

EastWalker 11

Haha damn. 100 percent agree. People are so goofy about this mess.

Ash Archer

Came here for the Dose, stayed to closely examine the DVD and game collection being shown off. Some good stuff in there!

Grant Potter

I mean I’ve never had collections like this. I have my things I keep. Like I’m a Star Trek nerd. I have so much trek shit. I also have a bunch of sports stuff. None of it has any value other than what it brings to me but it’s mine. Most of it is from my playing days. But ya. I’ve had those arguments in my head about “value” etc. it’s insane what we do as humans for “stuff”.

Brandon Delon

I purchase based on expense. If the physical copy is cheaper than the digital copy, which should never be the case but sometimes is, I purchase the physical. If the digital is cheaper than I purchase that. I have no care what it is. It just depends on the price. Lately for games I just wait until a digital copy of something is on sale for less than ten bucks, which is why I have about thirty games to play.

Jim Woodard

Agree! I have nearly 5,000 CD's, DVD's, BluRay's, and now UHD disks. The only ones I can say, "See, I was right" about are a couple episodes of South Park that were permanently banned for reasons you might do a video and the original version of "Money for Nothing". Now all that said, we either fill landfills with plastic garbage or we eat up power and storage space in case someone wants to watch "Team America: World Police" again. Oh, that's only me? Sorry, I'll show myself out. :D In case there was a question: the episodes of South Park were NOT banned because of backlash from Tom Cruise (despite some Internet rumors), they didn't really show Mohammed. That's the hilarity. They had shown him years before (another episode banned), but it got past everyone, including those who would have done terrible deeds over it. Then the Season 14 episodes 5 and 6 (200 and 201) showed feet under a "Censored" block, and they STILL removed the episodes!

ElFrioSilencio

I saw those plushes and figurines! Is Buckley a fellow Pokémon fan?

Buckley decluttering video when?

Shumiry

That is an immensely profound take on the phrase "Own nothing and be happy". Zen AF. It's really quite impressive how you manage to come up with these hypothetical scenarios, too. They're so detailed and fleshed out! I don't have nearly as impressive of a collection, and most of it isn't even stuff I bought, but inherited when we all moved out of our parents' house over the years. My Turbo Grafx 16 Duo or whatever it's called has been sitting in a bin with all of its Hucard games for over 10 years.

When I first saw your collection I started thinking about how meager my collection of physical media is. What you said after that made me feel normal.

Rebecca Massil

I buy media if I know my friends on Plex do NOT have it available. Stuff like shows I really like and want to show people that certain streaming services (*cough* HBO *cough*) make unavailable. Also, if you have a lot of physical media, might wanna consider starting a plex server and sharing libraries with friends online. Sharing what you have is the way forward, I think. It's a good way to get the content without paying streaming services or being forced to buy it all yourself. It's how I watched Twin Peaks without Starz, or the new Avatar Aang movie / most of star trek without paramount+.

Pink Lemonade

While this video gave me some good laughs, it does feel like a huge strawman. The fact that you personally don't use most of the shit you buy doesn't take away any validity from the argument that consumers should own what they pay for (or at least be refunded when they can no longer own it). The premise of the video is "well you're probably not gonna revisit your games after a while anyway, so why are you complaining" but doesn't this imply that the people complaining do revisit their old games, rather than that they're just crazy? I wish there was some effort to address the actual criticisms of Sony's decision that are just kinda thrown up there at the end slide.
