A couple weeks ago, a pair of mockingbirds built a nest in a bush near our front door. It’s easy to peek in at the nest – it’s right at eye level. I’m guessing Mama and Papa Mockingbird have been regretting their choice of nest locations. We’ve been nosy neighbors.

Here are some photos my wife took over the past couple weeks. It’s been fun to see the baby birds grow. And Max has been enjoying watching them from the window. (Mama often yells at him.)

So cool to be able to watch up close like that!!

Poor Max. So close and yet so far.

It's awesome! I just looked and three out of the four babies are out of the nest. They're hopping around the bush, exploring.

I set up a bird feeder a few feet from the window near where I work at home, and a squirrel feeder a little farther away. I have nine different kinds of birds eating here, plus squirrels, bunnies and chipmunks. They're all so much fun to watch!

That is so cool! Perfect spot for you and family… mama bird, may have regretted the housing spot. Do you know if mocking birds return to same nest for next brood? That would be so awesome! I love watching birds and other backyard animals. 😊 Extra cool for Max! 😸

Out for a run in Richardson TX and mockingbird dive bombed me. Too close to the nest I’m guessing. These guys hit and hit hard.

Scott Metzger

I didn't know that they returned to the same nest. I'm wondering if they'll come back, given how nosy we've been. I hope they will!

Scott Metzger

Probably! My daughter was almost dive bombed because she was hanging out near the nest too long. The mama came close and yelled at her

Thank you for the great photos!!! They’re fascinating birds. We raised a baby that had fallen out of a nest (we couldn’t find the nest). He stayed with us for 2 years, going out during the day & coming in at night. He did an excellent impression of the washing machine 😊. Then he flew away & didn’t come back. I always hope that means he started his own family.

What a cool story - and that's funny about the washing machine! They are interesting birds for sure. So much fun to watch.

Karen Jagielo

Not sure on whether they return or not, some birds do. That’s so cool though! 😊
