Oh gosh please dont go nuclear lucy, you know sue doesn’t deserve that.

SomeColourMage

almost like there was no point trying

Rocky Wolfknight

Yeah I think Lucy is going to burn her bridge with Sue. And Sue pedastal of Lucy is going to shatter...

arjay

Lucy about to counter attack

Frith

STOP IT STOP IT!!!! CAN'T YOU SEE YOUR CONSTANT FIGHTING IS TEARING US ALL APART?!?!?

AlienSpawn

Welp… this is about to go from bad to nuclear annihilation.

PAM

So close Sue. Then you blew it.

M.L. Scotland

I was really rooting for her but this is done with.

Rocky Wolfknight

Remind me, what's the whole point of Lucy being back at the table if this is how she's been for the past few chapters? Or the fact she still willingly ran back to Mike outside?

Antares

You tried your hardest, Sue

Boss

From a story standpoint. I’m genuinely trying to understand what Lucy’s problem is with Sue. I understand her trauma and concurrent issues are causing disruptions in her mental health but the moment Lucy got back Sue was on her side. They had that Halloween trick and treat event. Sue has sided with Lucy and apologized and even told her how she should’ve realized something was going on with her. Sue would drop Mike in a heart beat and stick with Lucy if that’s what she really wanted (and kind of did with Lucy being back at the table). But all Lucy has done is spite her. I wonder if this will be explained as time goes on but it just seems so odd that Lucy decides to pick a fight with Sue after everything’s that happened.

Steven Marshall

At the heat of the moment I think she just did it out of spite. Basically a "I'll kick him while he's at his lowest" moment. Then it took her literally MINUTES back in the friend group to cause conflict by guilt-tripping people not to go outside and check up on Mike. Now the friend group is walking around on these eggshells that clearly makes them uncomfortable, and she's even worse off mentally because now she doesn't have her security blanket to fall back on. Basically, a complete netloss for practically everyone except Augustus who's at the very least now part of a healthy friend group.

Rocky Wolfknight

I honestly wouldn't be suprise if she begins to question/doubt herself with Lucy, or change sides

Metal Raven

Damn. Where’s this gonna go?

Rocky Wolfknight

I wouldn't be suprise if the group begins to grow suspicious of what she, August, and David did and notice Mikes ever growing absent lately. If anything, I think this moment is going to be Sues pedastal of Lucy breaking and I wonder if she's going to begin questioning what's going on

Zambies

VERO STOPPP

Rocky Wolfknight

Honesty...I think this is going to be a harsh reality check/wake up call for Sue.

Keywii

I've been saying it from the start. Lucy really wasn't any better. She always treats her friends like crap. It doesn't make it okay that she attempted to take her life, or say she didn't experience trauma, but she isn't as much of saint as people have made her out to be.

Nev Ravenoak

I don't think there's a better reason other than the fact Lucy just doesn't value any of her friends like she values Mike. Even Sue sees it, as mentioned two pages earlier. I don't think Lucy's behavior is really meant to make logical sense. And as a person reading a fictional character, I find that makes her interesting and fun to root for. I just want her to figure it all out, you know?

esinololly

We tried so hard, and got so far. But in the end IT DIDNT EVEN MATTTEERRRRR

Steven Marshall

I think beforehand they were just going to put their fingers over their ears and not ask questions to avoid causing problems for Lucy, but now that Sue and Lucy have basically fallen out and Lucy will most likely avoid them again, the rest of the group will basically HAVE to start asking questions.

esinololly

PLEASE!!! WE ARE OUT HERE IN THE TRENCHES, BEGGING!!!

Boss

@Nev I can see where you’re coming from but I disagree on that because it’s clear it’s trying to portray a specific cause. I’ve worked with SMI patients and I’m also SMI and absolutely there isn’t always a reason for their behavior but I would say there is a distinction between paranoia/delusions to blatantly being passive aggressive and spiteful. So I think for myself I’m trying to understand more from storytelling why the switch up. (Other than drama I guess lol). But honestly… you could be right! It really could just be her behavior isn’t made to make sense. But I do think you’re spot on how she doesn’t value her friends like she values Mike. But that’s just my take on it c;

Rocky Wolfknight

Ye no worries! That's just what I think could potentially happen, especially cause there's no way the group hasn't notice Mikes growing absent for this long. At this rate, SOMEONE is going to question and confront it.

sammy

Lucy is about to self sabotage…again.

Rocky Wolfknight

Exactly. It's all going to come coming back eventually, but I feel like it's going to be a calm before the biggest storm hits.

Nev Ravenoak

My theory is that she's self-sabotaging/ self-destructing.

Boss

@Nev Yeah that’s a good theory. I will say I did think this is a potential case of black and white. One her friends show a negative trait she goes “I knew they were bad” without much else. But she definitely gives Mike more grace lol

Elizabeth Hunter

Wow.... Lots of complicated feelings in this chapter... I remember dealing with my own traumatic experience, and there are moments in recovery where you start blaming EVERYONE who was involved in the incident, no matter how tangentially they were connected to it. Lucy has been burying this since middle school, pretending it didn't bother her because she's never been able to be vulnerable with anyone but Mike. By the time she met the rest of her friends, she already had her wall up, and her childhood experience with Mike only taught her to never open herself up to being abandoned ever again. (This isn't the right lesson, or even a healthy one, but I feel like this is the lesson Lucy took from it) Being an asshole always seemed like a defensive technique; with Mike it was because she wasn't brave enough to say how she really felt, so she did everything she could to convince Mike (and herself) that she actually couldn't stand him. With Paulo it was because she actually did like his flirting sometimes, but didn't know how to respond and lashed out to cover her embarrassment. With Daisy, it was almost certainly resentment. I was a tomboy as a kid, and I definitely had some internalized misogyny that made me resent the girls who had stereotypically feminine interests. I wanted to be like them because I wanted to be accepted, but I couldn't make myself care about the things they liked, and I convinced myself it was because I was just smarter than they were. Now she's seeing that Sue was traumatized by the same event she was, but managed to grow and mature and come to a healthy place, while Lucy has never really gotten over it. Lucy could have absorbed that fact and asked Sue for help, leaning on the person who has always been there for her. Instead she's still stuck in her own victimization, and letting Sue in might just force her to open up about EVERYTHING. This is Lucy trying as hard as she can to keep the cork on the bottle, and the harder it gets for her, the more we're going to see her lash out. Man, this is so sad and relatable; I can FEEL the panic in Lucy at the beginning of the conversation, and now she's latching on to Sue's words to victimize herself AGAIN because she just wants her to go away and stop prying. Hurt them before they hurt you... Ugh, these kids feel too real!!!

Fiver

She was recently triggered again, I'm pretty sure after Halloween? With the knowledge that Alejandro and Toby are still constantly trying to contact Augustus. Her more apparent regression with everyone started happening around then.

Elizabeth Hunter

This feels like an inevitable conclusion to Lucy burying the assault for this long. She did a good job hiding it in middle school, playing tough and putting on a façade, but after Curtain Call she started therapy. This probably helped with her general feelings, but I bet she didn't actually tell the therapist about Alejandro. She told herself that the real problem was her attempt and her dependence on Mike, and she may have even rationalized it as "so long ago it doesn't matter anymore." Trauma can pop back up if you don't deal with it, though, and moving back to Roseville was probably what lit the fuse on the explosion we're about to witness. I don't know if there will be a specific incident that started it, but I'm willing to bet it was when Augustus moved in and she started hearing the phone buzzing in the other room...

Onion

😟

Firelilly027

I agree. I think sue is still holding on to who lucy used to be, the thing is lucy is not the same person anymore. Sometimes i wonder if there is just too much hurt and trauma for lucy to be able to carry on the relationships she had before her attempt.

Red Miso

This whole thing is like playing a 3 legged race in a minefield. You never know which mine will go off just that they will go off

esinololly

Nice analysis!!! Wonderful read through.

Ashley V

Sue is fighting against Lucy’s hardened thoughts that no one is her friend. I hope they get a chance to work things out but right now Sue doesn’t know what’s she’s facing since this has been years in the making.

Elizabeth Hunter

Thank you! I've been following the webcomic for 15+ years, and I feel like I grew up alongside these dramatic cats ♥️ I relate to all of them in some way, and they've only gotten more complex over the years

Nev Ravenoak

I wanna hear some of your guys' theories about what Lucy is referring to in the last panel. That face is just reading "anime villain monologue" to me.

Addystar

Yeah so Lucy can just treat people however she wants and if you say anything about it you're deranged apparently

esinololly

I think it's because Sue single handedly proved to Lucy that she's incredibly self-absorbed by not wanting Lucy to "hold this over her" :0

Snowstar837

When has anyone made Lucy out to be a saint?? Even the people who are big fans of her are the first to admit she's mentally ill and acting poorly

Sometimes a Badger

It feels like even Lucy doesn’t know what she wants at this point. She just seems massively bitter and unhappy due to past traumas and unable and/or unwilling to articulate what is nettling her.

Steven Pope

Not big on empathy are ya Luce?

mobsterseeker

At this point I doubt there's a Lucy hater more fervent than her own damn self. She's been looking for the reason Sue is putting up with this for this whole conversation and now she's convinced she's found it. She still believes she's a parasite that everyone hates and is borderline mocking her by pretending to want alive.

Antares

So true Snowstar, I adore Lucy and she just wouldn't be Lucy if she was benevolent and thoughtful and rational all the time, never thought of her as a saint lmao

SCD

Uh-oh.

Rocky Wolfknight

I also think August playing devils advocate with that phone isn't helping her either. Cause he's choosing to keep that phone around that has direct contact with Alejandro, the guy who SA her and attacked her and the others years back. I'm really scared that's going to get August hurt, or worst, hurt the others. I been worried Alejandro could be tracking them with each ring/call. I so not know if he capable of that, but you never know.

nalem

Man, these poor kids are all hurting!!
