There are many variations so yes you could have saved her. You are not locked into killing both of them at this point. The way routes work in this game is fairly complicated but looking up a guide for first playthrough completely ruins the whole affection meter gimmick so IMO it is better to let it play for the first time and then you can decide if you will use your knowledge to decide which choices to pick or use a guide.
