We kick off our patron-exclusive miniseries examining the best and junkiest movies of the Summer of 1977 with The Car!

Get revved up, Patrons! This is one of Brian's all time favorite movies and one Cargill is not shy about calling perfect. Even after forty years, there is plenty of gas in the tank.

An evil car (that's totally a ripoff of a giant shark from an earlier film) vs. Thanos' dad? What more do we need to say?!

Also, the bridge jump (according the the semi-reliable IMDB) was 196ft and was the stunt man's first on-screen jump.

I just watched it and then listened to the episode. At first I was prepared to dislike it because of the scene with the cyclists. The acting wasn't all that, and I wasn't too sure about the kills, but then the scene with the sheriff and the school teacher... The dialog was a bit weird, but it seemed so natural. Maybe the acting made it work and the dialog was bad or maybe it just had a Tarantino-esque conversation thing going for it. From there I was sold. Weird premise, great movie. I love the almost redemption of the wife beater who helps to rig the explosives. Part way through (where he was pulled out of the cells) I thought maybe he was the local priest and he was then needed to put the dog collar back on to exorcise the car, but alas that didn't happen. Still, thorougly enjoyed it.
