Such Boredom. Such Pain (Patreon)

Coding... Especially when you're taking your old trashy, held together with duct tape, system, and converting it into a modular and cohesive system, is the most boring but also infuriating experience life has to offer me. You're just sitting here, typing bits of new code. Looking at the old code. Hoping you don't copy old code into the new code and break everything... And until you're days into coding, you can't even test it. And when you do, it will CERTAINLY be ridden with bugs and not work. So then you'll have to debug everything. Which is more enfuriating than building the code in the first place. If I was just making a simple game with some basic choices, we'd be good to go. But no... I wanted to make a 1990's point and click immersive sim inside of Ren'Py so I have to write custom code for EVERYTHING... Thousands of objects that each have a dozen lines of dialogue associated with them. Some are keys. Some are inventory items. Some are collectibles that can be placed on the walls in your cabin... Windows you can peep in. Stat variables that track EVERYTHING and where EVERYONE is at all times and gate keep what you can and can't do at any moment. And then I've got the people on F95Zone like, "Hey dude, when is Harvesting Corruption Remastered coming out?" The good news is, once this code is done, it's done forever, and then it'll just be adding new scenes and game states every time I want to add new shit. But right now, it feels like I'm coding my own game engine inside of Ren'Py... Which I guess technically, I am.In the end though, this is going to be something really awesome. I'm just trying to make a game so deep that you could just mess around in a dozen different ways, not even following the main quest line, and still have a blast.
