"Excuse me. All the plot inconsistencies are giving me indigestion." Classic Maple. Ha

Dani

did you skip 8x4 lol??

Jeff I.

"Jeff I. kind of forgot about the fourth episode."

Bryan Erickson

Arianna pretty much summed up my thoughts and feelings on the episode and direction of the show. 👏👏👏

Athasin

If Dany hadn't listened to Tyrion to begin with, if she just went after King's Landing, none of this would've happened, the dragons would still be alive, and less people would've died (because Messandai wouldn't have asked Dany to burn them all as her dying wish meaning she most likely would've called off the attack).

Athasin

Dany just needed to spend an hour in a plate smashing room before the attack on King's Landing.

Athasin

Also Cersei was like one of those nepo babies who finally made it into the Ivy's and failed their first class.

Athasin

Also it's only until this episode that I realized they did a great job with Joffrey's casting because she looks so much like him here.

Oscar H

Daenerys turning evil isn't bad plot wise, it's Game of Thrones so it logically makes sense. If they had cultivated the story way back from s1 it would make sense. We don't see any of her mad queen essence until s7 when she burned the Tarlys and their army. They should have fleshed out her story, Jon's story, Sansa's story and many more.....OR do the noble thing and killed everyone in ep 3 of s8 (in my head its s7 e10). If they didn't know how to write the story just let the knight King win and turn everyone into zombies, that's a finality that everyone can respect. The whole kingdom to be destroyed by willful ignorance

Athasin

This is why we say there are only 6 seasons of Game of Thrones until they inexplicably cancelled it.

Richard B

“Not like this!” Exactly, even Cersei thought her death was lame.🤣

Ryley

Daenerys was always a baddie. She had people around her to check her worst instincts, and you don't really care at first because some (but not all!) of the people deserve it, but "kill my enemies in brutal ways" was always her first instinct from the moment she had any real power. All that really happens in the end is that the people checking her instincts are either dead, turned against her, or lost her trust, and the people who don't deserve dying brutally go from the minority to the majority.

BobJ

This series just completly fumbled the ball in the 4th quarter. I was obsessed with GOT and Breaking Bad while watching them when they aired. One stuck the ending and the other didn't.

Trevor Go

Spot on. This theme was frequently portrayed and even more so foreshadowed. The writers and directors did an excellent job of justifying her “by any means necessary” attitude, particularly because most of her victims were even worse. However, she often displayed emotional detachment in her use of brutality, drawing occasional parallels to Joffrey and her brother. Her behavior reflected a love of power and revealed many of her insecurities. Foreshadowing included visions, such as those in the House of the Undying, which showed the throne room in ruins, her self-identifying as the “Mother of Ashes.”, saying things like "When my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who wronged me! We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground." Leaders and politicians have and continue to take approaches like this around the world to make the world a better place from their point of view. LOL I'm just saying!!!

Christian

right she killed the bad guys in mean ways, not like everyone and for no reason! It comes out of nowhere in the 8th season.

Ryley

She killed mostly bad guys. Some innocents too though. And would have killed way more if left to just act on her instincts, as she eventually was. Gotta break some eggs to make an omelette though, right? Its for the greater good! It didn't come out of nowhere, you just got blinded by nice tiddies. I was suspicious in the finale of Season 1, and had her pegged by the end of Season 2.

Pyt

Imagine spending all the time and resources into building all those anti-dragon weapons, putting them all along your walls, on every ship you have, and for them to do ABSOLUTELY FUCK ALL.

Joe Blankenship

Welp, here we go. Six seasons of rooting for a character pissed down the drain.

Joe Blankenship

Should've been Arya. Should've been Cersei clutching her slit throat while Arya gives her a shit-eating smirk.

Daniel Bjork

Glad ya’ll are finally getting to experience the joys of the final season of GoT lol

Dani

I cannot fucking wait for the mogging next week

Matthew s

You guys should watch the “Inside the Episode” for episodes 3, 4 and 5. There are some hilariously stupid explanations from the show runners.

Chris Bruneau

soooo, about that F'd up screenwriting of S8, but I think both of you will now agree it sure was lame, contrived, unnecessary, and nonsensical. upon this re-watch, my "favorite" contrived plot event is when Euron washes up on shore in the EXACT time and place where Jamie happens to be just walking by!!!!!

Chris Bruneau

how does one defend the indefensible??

Chris Bruneau

its even worse, its six season of written chracter development thrown away like trash in the wind

Jay

This is why yall shouldn't listen to people before yall watch the episodes. You guys were so locked in on finding negatives at some points yall sounded almost delusional. The reaction wasn't free from influence 🤣 someone told yall it sucked and yall laser focused in on that

Dilly Diamondz

This final season is the prime example of a story/script being EVERYTHING. You can have literally all the money in the world to make stunning visual effects, build amazing sets and have some unbelievably good acting... but if the script is bad, none of that stuff even matters.

Jeff I.

Yeah, I think the way the plot worked out would have been fine with most fans if they hadn't crammed it all into 6 episodes and improved the dialogue writing. It needed at least a full ten episodes to breathe.

Athasin

This too. In fact she even says it, he didn't give her "love" so fear it was.

Elesh

The worst part of this season for me is "I never cared for the innocent or otherwise" that's just the dagger to the heart that is Jaime's character. They ruined this amazing scene when Jaime is with Brienne in the bathouse finally dropping his mask of smug Jaime not caring about anything or anyone, and he finally reveals that he killed the mad king not for his father, the house or glory but for the people, but everyone thought he was a villain so he played the part, he always admired and wanted to be like Ned Stark. And they just throw it to the garbage. But my cope for this, is that he was just lying and putting the mask of the villain once again because he knows he shouldn't go back to Cersei but did for love.

Elesh

I agree, the episode does suck complete fucking balls, but also has fantastic visuals and some strong moments.

Elesh

Why do you think I came all this way :)

Ryley

Daenerys was always a baddie. She had people around her to check her worst instincts, and you don't really care at first because some (but not all!) of the people deserve it, but "kill my enemies in brutal ways" was always her first instinct from the moment she had any real power. If not for Jorah, and Ser Barristan, constantly talking her down in the earlier seasons, she'd have done something like this even sooner. All that really happens in the end is that the people checking her instincts are either dead, turned against her, or lost her trust, and the people who don't deserve dying brutally go from the minority to the majority. As for Arya, yeah, her purpose was to kill the Night King. The Many Faced God is also known as the God Of Death, and she was shaped into an instrument to kill the thing making of mockery of that God's power. And The Hound is there to steer her away from throwing her life away pursuing revenge. Euron dies how he lived - shouting delusions of grandeur. They did Jaime dirty though, no denying that.

Lee Hambly

A wise man once said "If you thought this would have a happy ending... you haven't been paying attention". Mad kings are mad... how many masters did she crucify? She had lost everything in the 4 episodes beforehand - two Dragons, Mormont and Missande, they were her world - sitting on Drogon hearing the bells, it was just her and him and no one else mattered. You really think the show is just gonna change tack in the last 2 two episodes of the entire run? As for matching up deaths and being pissed about it - Arya learns about life, not death - literally "fuck the list", she never cared about being the one to actually kill the people on her list, just that they died. Cleganebowl happens and the Lannister couple get buried together under what they held so precious. Both are fitting ends. The characterisation of the love affair between Jon and Dany was a tad sudden, but its fairly minor - he bent the knee regardless. Idk wtf people are so mad about - that it ended at all, maybe.

Paul Holloway

Finally, somebody that gets it. Thank you!!

Chris Bruneau

I guess as a novel reader, I was most disappointed that the prophecy never came true. Cersei is told 3 things by a Magi sorceress: 1) all her children will die before her, 2) she will watch another woman, younger and more beautiful, take power away from her, and 3) her own brother will wrap his hands around her and choke the life from her. THIS is why she hated Tyrion so much, because she secretly believed he would murder her someday. I guess we will never know the truth....

Michelle

Cersei would’ve ripped that script right up😂😂😂

MarisoL

Please insert: "Am I supposed to feel sorry for that b*tch, I don't!" When Cersei starts crying. 😆 On first watch I was confused and now on rewatch I'm disappointed.

Matthew s

Some people think the Daenerys ' evil turn was done well. I just completely disagree. They showed her violent tendencies, but her turning her rage towards thousands of innocent peasants is a huge departure from her character. The writers also completely assassinated Jaime when he said that he never cared about innocents. That line seems purposefully calculated to upset the fans of the show/books. Finally, I just can't even watch the Varys stuff. As you mentioned, he prematurely betrays Daenerys before it is justified. He also openly commits treason against the queen and tells her closest adviser and her boyfriend about it. Varys in the early seasons was a great player of the game because nobody knew what he was doing or what he wanted.

Elesh

The things you pointed out I agree with, but people are mad with overall shitty writting, the peak of game of thrones was when Varys and little finger had their exchanges in the throne room where they carefully weighed their words to have their little "who has more dirt on whom and who outsmarts the other" the dialogues were insanely good, season 8 is just cock jokes, and hollow dialogue that serves as a spoon to feed you the story. Perhaps one of the most offensive writting in this season is arya killing the NK instead of John and complete destruction of Jaime's character arc, from smug posing ruthless SOB to dropping the mask and showing the real Jaime that always been there, wanting to be honorable and caring for the innocents (bathouse scene with brienne hello?) and they ruined it.

Elesh

That's true, but she cared for the slaves, the innocents. While doing mad queen eque things to the abusers, but in kings landing she either can't think that maybe poor people of KL are also innocents, and while they don't wear chains they are still subjects to the tyrants that rule them, and instead of freeing them, she burns them all. Now wether her lack of care came from bad writting or the fact she lost Jorah Missandei and 2 dragons that's hard to judge.

Alicia Hauskins

Idk that they did Jaime dirty... He was always Cercei's "womb to tomb" ride or die 😂

Diegesis

Actually they didn’t!! No one told us anything about the feeling or end of the show luckily this is just us 😂

Tim Ford

AND it would have been so much more poetic if Jamie went back because he knew he'd be the only one who could get close enough to Cersei to stop her. Maybe she'd just refuse to surrender, and finally, Jamie would have to choke a bitch.

Tim Ford

I'm mad that the writing sucks and the only explanation we get for characters acting like dunces is "bitches be crazy."

Tim Ford

Or maybe the season just blows.

Shahbaj Mohammad

Yall kept saying what did Danny do wrong that made her worse than Jon or what made Jon better... Well what makes Danny better than Jon exactly? Like she dosent have the claim to the thrown over Jon... And she is prone to jump to violence from the start, only difference is there were ppl to advise her about holding back. If ur a king who is violent and need ppl to calm u down, then ur not worthy. If ur a king who is violent, have dragons, ur father was the mad king, don't have the best claim to the throne and u lost all ppl who kept u in check from violence then ur definitely not the good option and far from the best option. Instead of questioning Varis listen to what he said. He served many kings. Which means he know what kind breaks and when. And Danny was showing signs of breaking. Even before all this, if ur decision is to burn ppl alive instead putting them in jail. And ur family has a bad history of misusing fire then that's a bad sign.

Eric

Because it did, in fact, suck big floppy donkey d**k. That people like you still defend this shyte is hilarious though.

Ste Rawlings

Why is it that when Jamie and other characters do fucked up things that have been set up along the way they're just fucked up but when Dany does the same things it's "they're going to make her be crazy"?

Ste Rawlings

It's giving major Penguin "the thing i wanted to happen didn't happen so everything is dumb" energy.

Mathew Hill

Honestly I feel sorry that you’re having to watch this, but I’m enjoying your reactions, so many of us felt just the same, especially after following the show for years, sharing it with our friends, rewatching it before a new season came out, wondering how it was all going to end, and then this, one of the most disappointing ends to what started out as one of the best ever few seasons of a TV show, all the depth and believability of characters, the intricacies of the world building, all gradually eroded by a script that feels like it was put together via a game of consequences.

Jonathan Blaze

Terrible episode. The writers couldn't be bothered to tell us a story. Just here it all is, crumbling down. Dracarys.

Jon Snow’s Mange

It definitely does suck, but tbf this has always been Jon and Dany’s story. A Song of Ice and Fire after all. The showrunners just couldn’t get it to where it needed to be because they can’t handle what’s not already written for them.

Justin Dodge

the worst part about the writing is when you realize why it was so bad.....David and David were offered to produce a high level star wars show by disney around season 6. so they started rushing everything, killing character growth, ignoring George Martin.....then season 8 was so poorly received, disney pulled them off that project lol. Fckn karma

Anna J

I mean it was foreshadowed through the entire show many times that she would do this. Like when the witch in S01 tells her that she killed Drogo and her baby, it was for the greater good so no more innocents have to die. Dany's first response is "but I saved you" which kind of secretly shows her tactic as a leader - I saved you so you are in debt to me. And the witch replies with reasoning that should've been the main lesson Dany learns - she was already raped many times by dothraki before she "saved her" and they killed most of her people. "Now you see what life is worth when everything else is gone". The war and the Throne Dany wants so much will cause death to many innocents if she is not careful. She burned the witch even though she was the one who asked her to perform magic rituals. Then at the gates of Qarth she threatens to burn the city if they don't let her in - even though she is no position to make threats and it's very reasonable to not let unknown savages known for pillaging into a city. It was right then when I knew she is going to end up like her father, 6 seasons before. In the vision in season 2, she sees the throne room in a ruin, covered in snow and possibly ashes. Foreshadowing not just the winter night king brings, but also the ruin she will bring to get to the throne. Through the entire show she was very self-righteous, vindictive and had a Messiah complex - an absolute recipe for a character that seems like a hero, but ends up as a villain. She wanted to break the wheel and "change the world", but only if it included her being at the top.

BigAL96_

There some valid complaints about this episode, but what these ladies are mentioning are not it.

BigAL96_

Thank you for common sense. People hate the ending cause the author didnt cosign it, but the author hasnt finished the books cause he knows the direction he wanted to go. The same direction the show went, with an ending that most people hate.

BigAL96_

Now this is valid complaints. I thought they should have shown Daenerys descent into madness should have been shown better.

TigerMyth

Did you completely miss that Varys was being burned because he attempted to poison Danny?

TigerMyth

Oh come on. The writing was rushed and terrible. One scene in the clear sky they just don't happen to notice Euron's fleet which she should have specifically been looking for. And Drogo isn't enough to take Euron out. Then the very next episode Drogo can not only take the whole fleet out but also the castle with ballista everywhere. The end was terrible. Danny was willing to use violence to punish but never showed ANY signs she would murder innocent women and kids. Every single group she punished before the final episode DESERVED 100% what they got. Screen Rant had the best takedown of the final season. HBO offered more time and money and the guys wanted to end the show. They did a very poor job. They could have very easily started showing Danny was losing it but they didn't. Her jealous of all of the gang heaping praise on Jon while she sat alone wasn't enough.

LucasHolliday

The writing was rushed and thus not what it could have been, but the skeleton of this is based on what was hunted to these two. This is why throughout the show Dany either says she will take what is hers or others around her make clear indications of what she needs to do in order to win. Be a dragon, all monarchs are either butchers or meat, Fire and blood, you're a conqueror...I see where everyone gets the mad Queen label, but in reality, that's the wrong label. She is Daenerys the Conqueror, in perfect alignment with her ancestor Aegon I. This is basically what he did, more or less, in order to forge the kingdoms. Including going on a murderous rampage when one of his sister wives Rhaenys is murdered by a scorpion taking Meraxes out of the sky in Dorne. But for one to say we didn't see this coming is only true because up until this point, Dany did what you wanted. She won against garbage people, usually murdering them, typically in Essos which is geopolitically lightyears different from Westeros. But one thing they have showed of her throughout the show as time has gone on, she has gotten further and further from the people. In season 3 she is named Mhysa mother of the people by the Yunkai'i, next season she goes to Meereen and makes a statement as breaker of chains. But when she ends up taking all that energy to the West, in her "homeland", which is true but even if she is native to Dragonstone, she and her lineage have been rulers and born to Westeros for nothing short of 300-400 years, unlike the First Men and the Andals who have been there for thousands, and in that time, Targaryens were always seen as Valyrian, not Westerosi. Add the fact that they liked to intermarry and carry on the incestuous traditions of Old Valyria, and then add the loss of Dragons and the real nuclear threat and Source of their power, and the Targaryens were almost seen as more interloper and usurper in nature than any other house in the 7 Kingdoms. Just because Aegon forged the 7 into one unified realm doesn't mean that the people just forget 20+ years before when the mad king burned the Warden of the North alive and strangled his eldest son to death. So bottom line there is no action Daenerys could have taken to change the minds of the people, except starve the city and wait until they overthrow Cersei. But she has been known to exact her revenge in the past and we didn't say shit because it was always the bad guy. But that doesn't make her moral compass super strong, nor does it make ours strong just because we like her and we feel right feeling like she deserves her throne since all the assholes get to have a throne. Beyond all that, she has never been on the ground to see what happens when she says the magic words and Drogon breathes. Not once does she walk the remains of her assaults, except I guess in season 3 after sacking Astapor. Meereen and Yunkai don't count. She didn't take them by dragonfire. But she didn't really see the result of her attack on the Lannister-Tarly loot train and The unrealized point of this show all throughout is that reality is a bitch, and end of the day, things don't work out exactly as desired: people get betrayed, kings order needless death, whole families get slaughtered at big seemingly safe events like weddings, people don't get their due revenge or just punishment, sometimes life does seem pointless, the hero does live long enough to see themselves become the villain, intelligent people make severe mistakes, people make decisions seemingly out of characters, sometimes they repeat history, and other times they become the monster you said they were or asked for. Sometimes you train your whole life for something you will never fulfill, and sometimes you were always who you reveal yourself to be, it just never really hits until it does at that moment. Life isn't a staisfying story, where it all works out. Typically you go your whole life fighting to then end up either dying that way or fighting for the wrong thing you didn't plan on fighting for. And no one is free from making terrible decisions. Many are not culpable, seemingly innocent, but we get what information we can or do have access to, then we act accordingly, for it or against it or with no real direction in sight. People of KL chose to run into the city and not start walking away because the quickest way to safety and food and shelter seemed to be in there. But you don't have to be literate to know that Kings Landing has been sacked once before, those stories are well known among everyone. And in a time of war, maybe going out into the open is risky because of marching Unsullied and Dorthraki screamers and dragons, but knowing the conqueror is coming the capital would not make me feel safe being where she wants to be. I can agree that they timing and the lack of a few more episodes to fill this in makes for a bad way to set the dominoes to fall, but I do think they were meant to fall as they should have. The barebones of this story still makes sense and adds up to me, it's not all entirely out of the blue.

LucasHolliday

But the people of Westeros, the Realm that Varys always speaks of, fell prey to xenophobia and rumors and particularly cowardice in her eyes, because unlike the slaves, they did not rebel and overthrow Cersei or Joffrey. But the biggest problem I had with the writing was why she didnt just go right to the Red Keep and hunt Cersei down. No one else was willing at that point to stand against her, out of fear and the instinct to survive at that point. And the only explanation, which is not out of her inner character but just outside of what she's chosen to do up until this point, is that she wants to rid the city of all its corruption, all the delusion and cowardice of the small people, along with the waning strength of the Lannisters overall by burning the armies themselves, and of course demolishing the seat of tyranny being the keep itself where her enemies hide and influence the realm to hate her. Also Dany is well known for rushing to her solution whenever she can, especially if plans arent working out. The original plan they had literally could have worked after the destruction of the golden company all the scorpions and the iron fleet, but she assumes that if she waits, Cersei will squirm out of it. She's right, she would have. So she makes an example out of the city, something she told Tyrion she would have done to all the great cities of Slaver's Bay until he checks that with another approach. I get it, in season 4, she said she wanted to learn how to rule, she needed to be more than mother of dragons, but she also said with fire and blood she'd take what was hers. She also was told monarchs are either butchers or meat, and that she was a conqueror through and through. She can say she isnt that, but when her plans don't work out, when people have other plans, she skips the plans and Drogon shows up and they melt people down and turn them to ash. Since season 5 that has been occurring, when she got ambushed by the sons of the harpy in Daznak's Pit, half of them got killed by Drogon. But maybe they were right. If she had died there, we would have been pissed and everyone would have quit the show, fuck this we out. But then nobody wouldve had the firepower to sack the whole city and kill thousands of people in a few hours. We all asked for this. I know we really didn't but we sure asf were not gonna have her get murdered in Essos by the masters.

LucasHolliday

This take I'm with. They went a direction they didnt have to in this case, which is that people dont truly change deep down. They are slaves to their own self images and delusions. Him grappling with the idea that his sister lover is gonna die with their baby in tow is one thing and can be a great scene, but him actually choosing to go and get captured and get freed by his brother, ring the bells to save the people then to try to find his twin to save her when she threatened his execution last he saw her is a bit on the nose. But the good part of that writing is thatshit doesnt work out many times, and you dont get to save your incestuous sister from destruction and also you die a nearly unnoticed mundane death because life just works like that sometimes. That's just my take though

Heilige Taube

You guys wanted Daenerys to be good but she just wasn't. Like it seems you are more mad that danny isnt the good guy and not so much at the quality of writing. To me this episode was fine. maybe the aria thing was anticlimactic, but even that had some value. the hound was right to tell her she'd die in there, and aria being outside in the carnage added a lot to show the horror of Daenerys and her army of savages. i thought cercei & jamie's ending was fine. The Hound vs brother ending was epic. To me the whole disappointment of the show is literally the very last episode only. what happens next. cant wait to see what yall think about that one
