Samurai Cop (1991) Watch Along

Excellent! Deadly Prey and Miami Connection and then I think those are the main offenders for "so bad it's good"

Samurai Cop's hair is actually a big deal within the production, you should look up the clip of the actor talking about how he cut his hair. It's hilarious

Nice. I've never gotten around to seeing this one.

Gotta watch Kung Fury! I feel like its a “bad” movie but its truly just awesome lol

Joe Blankenship

Wow. That was pretty terrible. It was entertaining, but they could easily cut 20 minutes out of it and it would be much more watchable. I was ready for it to be over around the 80 minute mark. Could definitely trim out most of those sex scenes.

Ah, Samurai Cop. This one is a bad movie all-timer. There are so many bizarre/silly details that really reward repeat viewings. A few of my favorites: How you keep hearing the same conspicuously accented voice being ADR'd throughout the movie, most likely the director's. The villain's lair being just a normal, upper middle class suburban house. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the director's, as well. That fucking lion mask...wall ornament...thing. The one hanging in the "restaurant's" back office. Seriously, who is that lion's agent? That thing was given more screen time than most of the supporting cast. The henchman set on fire at the beginning being visibly covered in that fire retardant goo, no attempt to hide it, or that it's now a stuntman. How that one henchman keeps yelling "Leave Him Alone!" when his hench-friend is grabbed by Frank in the interrogation scene. It's such an oddly innocent line reading. How in the first scene with the police chief, the actor playing the chief is clearly waiting at the end for the director to call cut, realizes he isn't going to, and then has to improvise (guy is clearly a pro).

You gotta finish the Birdemic trilogy! And BTW your reaction to the original isn’t on Patreon!

This channel is constantly surprising me! Oh, this is gonna be fuuuuuuuuun! (post watch edit) That was...okay, so I only ever watched the Rifftrax version of this movie, and they cut out all the unnecessary and not-sexy sex scenes. Watching this version was actually baffling to me. I don't understand the demographic that wanted this: boobs occasionally, sporadic unquestioned murder, and boring dialogue scenes where the dialogue doesn't make sense, and back to sex scenes that were mostly close-up scenes of people eating each other's faces. Add to that the poor directing, acting, lighting, TERRIBLE editing, color correction, sound, WARDROBE! This was a fun bad movie to watch with you all! I appreciate that this channel is throwing curve balls at me and I don't know what to expect . I would love to see a film that could have a lot of discussion around it like The Lighthouse, A Serious Man, There Will Be Blood, or Django Unchained, but I grew up on MST3K, so if you do b-movies regularly , I'm here for that shit, too!

Please do Batman and Robin 🏆

Is there some Lethal Weapon here? LOL

This is the only notoriously bad movie that everyone always talks about that I've seen before. So the deal with the wig was that according to the actor who played the titular Samurai Cop, Matt Hannon, is that he got hired and was told it was going to be a three week shoot. It ended up being three months of shoots and pick ups. When filming wrapped the director said he would get in touch with the actor so he could give him the tape. Matt Hannon went to his agent and the agent suggested he cut his hair because there were already a lot of dudes with good bodies and long hair, so he cut it really short. He then got a call months later from the director saying he wanted to meet up, thinking it was him getting his tape he showed up with his short hair and the director lost it. He had gotten the call because the director wanted to do more pickup shots, and that's where the wig came from. https://youtu.be/W8830UXkTzY?t=1 found the interview I learned this from.

One of the greats!! Have to compliment the editing, couldn’t have been easy but you took it in stride. Seamless job of trimming the ads, didn’t miss a beat.
